#Is the game abandoned?
1156 messages · Page 2 of 2 (latest)
I don't see it that way. I buy a game, play it, hope it works out there is more content some day.
The only hope in a kickstarter-funded DLC is that enough people also say yes, and I suppose also hope/expectation that the result will be worthwhile.
I guess what I'm saying is I never buy EA thinking that the game isn't good yet but when it is I want to play it.
It heard about this today very sad. Have had so much fun in the game. Wish they figured out a way to monetize it better rather than giving up on it. Paid dlc or something to get sales for game pass players or something
I mean even a cosmetic-only DLC so us fans can show some appreciation.
google "stationeers bobblehead"
The negative reviews posted by long term players of the game don’t help sales, just because some things about 1.0 had issues they weren’t keen on.
You can always gift multiple license to add to FHG's income.
SteamDB could be a license recipient
yep. they aren't entitled to positive reviews.
That kind of attitude is exactly why it will be hard to get more sales of the game. I find it funny that one of the people who gave the game a terrible review still continues to play it and has more or less got the discord server to himself. I have over 1,300 hours in the game and it was worth every penny I spent on it imho.
I agree. I played in EA and enjoyed it. 1.0 has its flaws but I'm still enjoying it. It did take some adjusting to for some of the changes.
The attitude to express an elaborate opinion of the ... final ... products is something that may not be favorable for the ones responsible for said product. But reviews are to express the player's opinion on the product, not to lie about it for the sake of sales.
Sales were obviously doomed regardless of the reviews and already a long time before 1.0 hit.
The desperate attempts with the last two pre-1.0 point releases added only minor bits to the core game and instead were obvious attempts to attract a different breed of players - and failed.
One specific player continuing to "play" after posting a damming review was to investigate additional bugs and performance issues. On top of those that got reported during playtest.
And there are quite a few of those - both old nd known as well as new ones discovered.
Looking back at the many occasions where FHG stuff was unaware of reports posted on the fupvote sites hint towards a complete communication failure on the bug report coordination side.
No, the shit tier frame rate is the reason why sales are crap and no big streamer will ever cover the game.
thats funny, i can run it just fine and have no frame rate issues... maybe thats more of a "your hardware problem" then the actual game problem
It feels like it is not good at multithreading or something...
but when is that stuff easy to do?
I feel they just used a shitty game engine. Or made one in-house but didn't give a shit about quality.
Performance depend on platform and also on factory size, crusher count, number of moled voxels.
In my case (11gen i7, rtx3070, 16gb ram) fps drop to 10 on a drained floor 16 with 48 8k core composers filled with yellow cores, also floor 2 with my main factory (200 mk2 planters, ~30 assemblers, 8 crushers and a sizeable Rea moled west and south of Victor.
And I have freight filled with 66 8k core composers. Traveling to that floor consistently crashes the game (ram usage is 5gb)
Low end Xbox, especially old gen and one s often don't work at all
But I will be real
I am burned by multiplayer non-host experience
In singleplayer game....works for much longer
Although I tried to host for 2 players and 1 kept droping
pl;z share save file for benchmarking purposes
multiplayer is a lie. unplayable after a certain size
I would not get all achievements in sigleplayer or complete all game
A slightly older save is here
Floor 11 may crash as you travel to it.
Floor 2 has part of the factory hug the western world edge, fps drop when you have build holograms visible when they Re within 6 Voxels of the bedrock wall.
#🤫-spoilers message
Crusher and build hologram performance hit can be fixed by mods on pc only.
The root
Peak performance?

yep
got it by just doing all tasks and hoping into portal after final monologue
No, the game genuinely has performance issues later on in the game. It's a well-known and well-documented issue
It is a "using the wrong machines and building too big of a factory" problem. Crushers are indeed implemented VERY poorly. I have already released a mod to fix some of the problem and I am working on hopefully improving it even more
delusional viewpoint, delusional sales.
performance is doomed mid/late game thanks to
- crushers are the only option to handle sesamite plant products as well as obtain the item required to get gold and sesamite ingots
- crushers (and pumps) can't use core boost
FHG poorly implemented crushers and yet made sure that a large quantity of them is required to progress.
It's flat out ridiculous that the recommendation is "to use as few as possible", which just adds to the overall feeling that watching paint dry is the intended way to spend the "100+ hours of game play"
Fortunately, at least PC users get the Bethesda feeling (the modding community turns the game into something playable). Console players are funked, though.
[edit:]
Also, remember how often sparks pushes us to build a huge factory? How the peak performance achievement requires 100+/200+ placed drills, smelters, assemblers and so on?
FHG wants us to create a 5SPF experience.
So i just finished the 1k Cube Quest. Watched the Cutscene. Last Achievement ist buggy i guess. Won't trigger next Quest. I am sad it's over. 🥺 396Hrs in ❤️ . I really hope this awesome Game will get some more Love someday. It has so much Potential. It would be such a waste to just leave it like this. Over and out.
let the game sit idle after the cut-slideshow. the follow up voicelines play several minutes later
Oh, and you have to trigger the highest rank sparks voiceline for number of simultaneously placed machines of all types (excluding pumps and crushers of course)
I closed the game after that…. Is it possible to hear the last voice lines if I go back in?
@opal nimbus sorry for the ping, but do you think it would be possible for you guys to post updates every once in a while? Just so we can see if there’s a slight glimmer of hope that the game could takeoff again.
He told you already that it won't happen. Stop pingiging him
If you want updates, buy TT as a gift some #0,000 times
Can you answer my other question?
The Voice Log has most of them.
Most ... Somehow many of the new 1.0 voice logs are not in there.
Not surprising.
So basically. I give up.
why?
seeing this thread fills me with a pretty big dissapointment in hoping to play the game after 1.0
I played like 40 hours early access and loved it now its just shelved and the lovely open world and narration feels prety pointless, I am understanding im not angry just sad
such is game development i suppos
Geeze, turn my back for a minute and look what happens. 😬
is this legit? 😭
yes
Suprised me how few reviews the game got
I think developing for console in parity kind of hurt tech tonica a bit but it's okay
That’s the only way I could play it. If it’s wasn’t on console I would’ve never got the chance to play it
Yes, but them spreading their resources thinly and publishing to consoles before the game was in a more complete state meant that the game as a whole suffered
It was the limitations on console that kneecapped the game, but I am pretty sure that Microsoft money probably kept it going as long as it did
I started playing on Xbox on Early Access (Preview). And again bought it on Steam recently to support the Devs.
Both versions got the same issues. Meaning its a shared code base.
The effort is therefore quite reduced and could actually be neglectable in the scope of the game.
I personally like the elevator mechanics, only the sand spike is unpleasant.
Yes it's the same codebase, but no, that doesn't make things less of an issue for the Devs.
It does help @latent rose, I have worked on games for most major consoles and platforms and do core engine development myself.
Cool, and in this case, as the hold-ups are things such as Sony and Microsoft rejecting builds due to performance issues, pushing back update release times, etc. it doesn't make things less of an issue
Yes, true. Does not solve all issues but makes maintaining the game easier.
But no use if the original devs are out. And we also don’t know who owns what. Maybe they got a compilcated company/legal structure. Best case own guy owns it all.
They weren’t quite a shared code base, or all features that didn’t require per platform custom code would be identical on both. An example being the level resources shown next to each floor in the elevator. Present on PC, missing in console, and it’s just a static display panel without even keybindings needed so should have been present on all platforms if truly simultaneous cross platform development. There are other things. So basically it’s semi shared, in that the PC was clearly the lead and the code from it was merged over regularly to the console instead of being directly shared, then towards the end they just stopped doing this and published what they had.
That can still be the codebase but with feature flags at compile time
Correct, but that's what you do for things that need tweaking. e.g. if one of our people puts in a PC menu that had significant mouse/kb logic they might set #ifdefs to make it PC only until the switch/mobile/console people could craft their version specific to their input devices etc, but you wouldn't need to do that for a simple non-interactive panels that just showed an icon for the resource types, that would work across all platforms the moment it was submitted ( assuming they shared a common map/ore layout, which they do ), hence the guess they were no doubt playing catchup to the end.
Yes, you're thinking of a simple project. Feature flags in a larger project like a game can include entire swaths of the game itself.
I think you're talking about something different, doesn't matter. I've said what I'm going to say.
thatssad
one thing to keep in mind too, unity3d is absolute ass of an engine to develop in, any simple thing you could think of adding or improving has a large chance to hit a bug in the engine itself, and the whole process of finding the bug, reporting the bug, and having unity devs fix the bug, often takes upwards of two years
the engine itself is also impossible to optimise
are there better engines?
godot kinda
or you can go the near 100% manual way of using something like SDL2
theres unreal as well but its a very complicated engine to get into
But you broke multiplayer so I cant get friends interested in spending a cent on it if they cant play together
Wait how is multiplayer broken?
It usually doesnt let friends join
At all
Invites do nothing, and by the time we refreshed the game enough times to get one person into my game 1 person got bored and got off anyway, 1 person wont install bc it wasnt working
Restarting steam, changing download region fixed it for me
Half the time
The other half it just went away by itself
It only sometimes lets peopld join
Weird, I've had no issues playing multiplayer
multiplayer stutters at a certain size
PC has a mod to fix that I'm pretty sure, but for console theres just no work-around, it starts somewhere at the halfway mark in the desert
No there is no real fixes
For non-hosts it will start stuttering around sierra regardless
You have to build big if you want to avoid fulfilling "100+ hours of gameplay" promise
pretty sure theres a mod that reduces the impact, I think it was something about crushers
The crusher mod is a general performance fix, not MP related
It eases the permanent checks for crusher input with every tick.
Dang. I played on xbox gamepass before i bought it on steam. Like someone else said i do hope it gets boughtout(a situation that is rarely good but in this situation... its calyx's last hope)
whats the common time frame for that sort of stuff cuz how long has it already been since 1.0 came out
is it coming up on 3 months?
heres a thing, a lot of multiplayer issues in games of these ages are to do with the router and ISP, since games need UPnP working in the router to open a bridge, and there must be a valid IP route from the ISP for the end to end connection to work, IPV4 often doesnt work because ISP's have to do NAT stacking, which does not permit valid port routes, and at the same time, many ISP's and routers still do not have adequate IPV6 support
so unfortunately it isnt often a thing that can be fixed by developers unless fully compliant dedicated servers are used to some extent
one stupid hack ive seen some games do (with worse results anyway) is fire a UPnP command to set an xbox console as a routing point, which of course would only work if the xbox is left turned on at all times
Matchmaking servers handle that most of the time, and considering that these issues arise on Techtonica, but not on other games... Well. It clearly is something that can be fixed by the devs
Brother, may I have some oats?
The oats have been moved to distant lands my brother.
I saw someone saying something about the changes not being too drastic- idk- I just loaded the game back up after last playing it sometime of march of last year- and was taken off just now by the excavation mechanic. Its a neat mechanic that gives us the ability to build bigger factories because the map is all cut up- but I for one am not a big fan of the change. Still gonna play the game cause I've been here for a while- but it threw me off so bad that I might not pick it up for a few weeks. Cheers though for everyone working on it till 1.0 even after rough sales launch.
TBF I thought it would rival satisfactory in terms of sales because the story was intersting and then the gameplay to me was unique compared to the other factory builder games but I guess not everyone else saw it the same.
Also- By bigger factories I mean the game isn't going to have to soak up more resources because it has to keep the whole world rendered in at once.
LIES
Any potential of opening up mods on xbox so the community can try and fill the gaps?
Why buy something broken
Because satisfactory isn’t on Xbox or ps5
Okay tough guy 🤣
I still trying to figure out how to get that to show 😛
Click on your name Then click on your name a 2nd time in the window that opens after the first click
Many thanks for that, looks like Kahuna and I came here the same day 🙂
It took me a few minutes to figure out how to do it myself 😹 And you got in on Alpha I had to wait until the second round (no thanks to Joey 😈 )
Jeeze, they let anyone in here didn't they lol
Hell, they even let me in lol 😉
Old fart
5 Days later
So games dead?
Eh yea no more updates but people still play it(i do)
I also plan to keep playing AND donate to development when financially possible. Techtonica is fun and the music is nice!
To be far they had made a huge number of sales as they were on the top ten as the release. Then again Sean sold his house while making Joe Danger after leaving EA
no one wants to respond for some reason... What about volunteer developers...?
not me (too young)
cool??...
i'm just finished a game, and found a devs forgot to add ending. They just not finished a story, and... I have no words for how disappointed I am with this. I just don't understand how you can make a game with so much lore and history and not make an ending.
because why not xD
Circumstances beyond their control.
I need to go play through it again
I only played during early access
The game is dead sadly
do you think this should be in ea?
Hey 🙂 how many time did it take you to finish the game pls ?
112 hours till end of phase 2 of white cubes, after that enabled mods
Oh, nice thx !
So sad to see this game abandoned
I just started playing, after Dyson Sphere Program, and I like it a lot so far. I'm sure there are options, from open source all or parts of it, sell it, find investors, etc.
It's not abandoned but for now it is Dev's have said they would develop TT in the future but liking and passion doesn't make money and right now for the past couple years they have been losing money so maybe in the future they'll update and develop
Though it is sad for right now there is no Support but we still have the community and maybe if they can't work it out they'll release the SDK and give development to the community like TF2 did 2 years ago
Remember there is still hope for TT
Yall if it could happen, would you want this game bought out? And by which company? Mine would be Coffee stain as they do Satisfactory thus the game would be in good hands. What do you think?
I think Satisfactory already takes all of their factory game attention.
I was playing it and switched to Foundry (I don't like infinite resources, too static for me, so I find satisfactory boring). Once I read the game has no real ending, things are half-baked and abandoned, I did not want to continue. I guess it's a vicious cycle, no money to improve the game, no future, no sales, no money...
Foundry has infinite resources, does it not? Even in Factorio, more distant nodes are substantially more dense and feel “effectively infinite” in late game for all but the largest factories.
Foundry has finite resource deposits but an effectively infinite map. It also by now has infinite resources via the galactic market
Factorio is effectively infinite because of the mining productivity infinite researches
Thanks for all the hard work. It's a good game. Perhaps modders will help with the odds and ends.
Here's to future updates, financial coherence, and joy to the world with another godsend of a video game. Mod community, Do your thing...!!!
Foundry has resource veins that can be fracked for infinite resources, except olumite. You can research Pumpjack efficiency to basically make Olumite infinite
As Kahuna said, if you get one of these you have infinite main resources (except Olumite)
I never said there is no way to get infinite resources. If just say that finite resource deposits exist.
and they made goat simulator 3
I can't see that making sense tbh. Coffee Stain already has satisfactory like you said. Why would they want another factory game to work on when they already had one to start with. The same company developing two different games in the same genre at the same time sounds a bit...out there.
I’m gonna revive this cuz I feel like it
Revive how?
The thread, not the game lol
so is there any info on wether the game will ever see the light of day
@granite venture its out in the world and all now
just forget this abandoned game, find something else, for me I'm playing Foundry now.
