#by what rule are belt splitter generated

far as I know it's a mess that will be fixed next patch 😆
Currently each splitter requires it's own single belt at its in/out gate. In your screenshot the desired splitter wouldn't have one.
It's splitter-belt-belt-splitter.
But 0.3 will change that to s-b-s
(not sure if s-s will also work)
but on the left side it works that way
well only particaly since the top splitter is missing
Oh, didn't notice, but that's one that shouldn't appear (though I noticed that happen for me as well)
It might depend on the direction (north, south, east, west) where the general "rule" is ignored.
in 0.2 the sequence of belting seemed to impact whether splitter/merger would appear, and also belts automatically joining at bends. Try building in different sequences, or creating a 90 degree bend from separate belts to see. Behavior of splitters appearing near elevation changes also changed in that patch.
after saving and loading the splitter are different, seems like i need to keep 2 bells between the splitters to get a reliable belt network
You can make them work like this already, but it’s a bit annoying… (have to effectively make a circle so the splitters spawn and then manually turn the conveyor belts)
There was a one-off comment in the vertical belts teaser video that stated that you will still need at least one belt between splitters, so plan on s-s not working unless they change their minds there.
One belt between splitters would be one less than currently though.
But we'll find out
