I made this and it looks good ive been using it ever since I made it at the start but i usally expand more but wondering if theres a better design?

This is one of the few applications for long inserters. You can set things up [machine - inserters - ingot belt - fuel belt], and have the long inserters grabbing the fuel. That's one space narrower than what you have there, and no need for belt stacking.

So getting more detailed in the mathematics, you are actually using your smelters inefficiently.

Your ratio is 2 inputs:1 output for ore smelting so with two stack inserters your output is at stack inserter speed. However double stack inserter speed is 360 items / min so you can only fit one more mark II smelter on this belt line as it travels at 480 items / min

In other words you need to separate your lines out more to make the most of your smelters depending on ore production rates

That's only if the smelters work at full stack inserter speed though.

Or I suppose another way of thinking is your total inserter speed shouldn't exceed 480 per belt

you are correct my output i didnt realize was getting way too full the stack insterter made it really stable
