Imo this is a lot better then using like a rank since i also did that but those are easily cheated and they reset (i was really high level once but it reset and i stopped using plugings like that anymore)

or its a glitch with changing plugin settings too often

cuz xp is stored as a setting and changing it every second might fail sometimes and it resets progress
