it would be cool for larger current and future aircraft to have this system sense the game takes place in the near future, this technology would be plausible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFdKCX_OP2g <-- this is a youtube link to a video Northrop Grumman made on this technology.

Our LAIRCM, AN/AAQ-24(V), protects more than 1,500 domestic and international aircraft of 85 different types from infrared-guided missile threats. Working with sensors that detect heat heat-seeking missiles, LAIRCM’s modernized, high-intensity laser transmitters track and defeat incoming threats in seconds.

i cant find a higher res pic💀

im sure that this could be implemented on the VL-49 sense the advanced version of the v-22 has LAIRCM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/ALQ-144 I have also discovered this

The AN/ALQ-144, AN/ALQ-147, and AN/ALQ-157 are US infrared anti-aircraft missile countermeasure devices (IRCM). They were developed by Sanders Associates in the 1970s to counter the threat of infrared guided surface-to-air missiles like the 9K32 Strela-2. While decoy flares were effective at jamming first generation infra-red guided missiles, ea...

medusa having this as a toggle would be amazing

I believe this is already kinda in game, it’s just not something the player interacts with (?)
DIRCM functions "passively" irl, it doesn’t require any pilot input

lore wise, flares are only able to work at all because of passive dircm

I think the op is talking about a Dircm powerful enough to appear on the countermeasures panel in place of flares and to defeat IR seekers without needing them. It would be interesting to have some platforms capable of equipping such a Dircm.

IRCM is implied, not directly modelled. Mitch has said it's a justification for flares still working against the futuristic missiles in game

we do have that laser defense

More "advanced" DIRCM could be added in the future if IR mechanics ever get reworked to not just be "drop 15 flares"

Idk it was just an idea anyway

it would be interesting to see experiments with infinite IR countermeasures that only require electricity, and, alternatively, finite radar countermeasures, i.e., chaff
