Tested on myself in an Ibis; The GL cannot damage the chopper via splash even when shooting at a wall the chopper is leaning against. This may explain why the GL feels so borderline ineffective versus even the UGVs; it needs a direct hit to do any damage at all.

this is because of a bullet limitation, they dont calculate splash damage unless colliding with a unit
i'd argue they are still effective against most ground units at shorter ranges

But IMO they are pretty weak versus the things that really should be vulnerable to shrapnel, like the hexhounds presumably.

well in this case more like small arms such as infantry rifles and machine guns, while .50 would still punch through
