In real airplanes, not having access to the information of your aircraft's KIAS speed is considered a major faliure that grounds the aircraft. Lacking indicated airspeed readout seriously impedes the pilot's ability to correctly fly the aircraft, it is essential information. Ground speed could be moved to the cockpit screen if that info is deemed essential.
(also, as a side note, a selected wind direction of 0 should have the wind originating from 360, as opposed to the wind blowing towards 360.)
#PLEASE have an option for the HUD to show indicated airspeed as opposed to ground speed!

what would this change? currently speed is the actual velocity
also, wind originating fron 360 versus blowing towards 360 doesn't really make sense, 0 = 360
direction would be in the direction of the indicated arrow which is in the direction of 0
actual velocity relative to the ground, speed relative to the air flowing over the wings is far more important for piloting.
in IRL aviation, wind readouts always tell you where the wind is coming from, not where the wind is blowing towards. If you see a wind readout of 18015G25 and you decide to take off from runway 36, everyone at the airfield will be very cross with you, and cops will be waiting for you when you get back on the ground, assuming you dont go off the end of the runway from improperly calculated takeoff performances first.
that makes sense then, though for now the arrow is still probably more intuitive for mission makers - i'd certainly agree that in game readouts should follow irl though, if/when we ever get more advanced hud and atc
When do you ever need your airspeed in NO ?
Hell when do you even look at speed actually
When dogfighting and on take off and landing?..
oh dogfighting makes sense
I use AoA for landing
Yeah, you can clearly see how the speed suddenly jumps up when you leave the carrier during a take off.
While aircraft in NO are sufficiently flyable with relative to ground speed, itd be really nice to have IAS as it takes relative wind speed into account. Afaik irl aircraft carriers turn headwind during landing operations to make pilots lives easier and give them more time to react (aircraft get more lift with lower speed relative to the carrier).
I guees another thing that could be added is wind direction indicator for map view/aircraft carriers so we can turn them for easier landings.
Taking off, approaches, first turns after takeoff, base to final, cruise while closing with à target, formation flying, intercepting enemy aircraft, do you have enough energy to cut throttle while defending that fox2? Do you have enough energy to turn more vertical in a fight or would you stall and get killed? If I pull hard right here, is it gonna risk blacking me out or stalling me? Tldr; constantly, literally constantly. If you aren't aware of your airspeed, you're massivley behind the plane, that's universal.
The main reason the convention is like this is because the runway number should be the one closer to the wind direction. It’s not intuitive when making a video game but it is more intuitive for pilots picking the runway
THIS. if you arent paying attention to the stats of your plane INCLUDING airspeed thats a massive skill issue
