currently the S3 is....... pretty good for normal usage, but when you get into a dogfight, they lose all purpose until the fight is effectively in your advantage, they can do qite a tight turn while their engines are up, but its burn time is low for a modern missile at 2-3 seconds, making it ineffective as an HOBS missile.

my suggestion is to either add a dedicated dogfight missile or buff either the s3 or the s2, giving it a longer motor burn time and increasing their drag as a tradeoff.

That's and you consider the 9X and IRIS-T would've been nearly 70 years old by the time of the setting. I don't know about you, but I don't see any current nation still running with AIM 9Bs as their primary IR missile.

forgive me for not wanting lose all my flares every time i merge

preflaring is already a good thing to do but only when the enemy actually points at you

#

i wish for that to remain the case

Right now you have to pull lead for the missile to not fail 50% of the time, which is horrible performance for a missile even in today's standards

The S2 can easily do 40 degrees off bore, try it some time

#

it can do about 170 degrees behind you in some circumstances. i think you might have discarded it as a possibility because the number is smaller but it's probably the better missile for what we actually use IR missiles for in NO

Interesting

How are missile aerodynamics modeled? Do missiles also have different energy retentions?

note that missiles turn purely with magic torque and are simulated as a single object, not multiple like planes

I think the negative sentiment is invalid since one of the principles of NO meta is that "future waits for no one" and evidently in 2070 we'd have missiles at least equivalent to what we have today (much better than current heat seekers ingame) as well as much more advanced cueing systems (which themselves don't need to be modelled since we already have the magical datalink), which should render high-off-boresight capabilities ubiquitous

having worked on one of those missiles myself I'd find it neat
