Especially with the new map coming, a long haul high payload capacity cargo plane would be a great addition and would compliment the Tarantula. It could either be jet or turboprop and it would have the same roles as the C-130 and would be able to basically perform like the Tarantula but without VTOL.
Roles:
This aircraft would probably accomplish more than just cargo delivery such as gunship and AWACs roles
- Cargo Delivery: This would basically be a larger Tarantula that can drop heavier payloads such as the Linebreaker chassis or even MBTs using airdrops via parachute(or rockets, depending on the feasability) or LAPES. And if we absolutely have to have it land or get near the ground, then a JATO/L kit could probably come in handy
- Gunship: Basically a fully fleged AC-130 style gunship that could be armed with a 105 or even 120mm gun with a stupidly long reload along with a 30 or 40mm autocannon and a 20, 25 or 12.7mm rotary cannon. Aside from the guns, it could also carry heavier AGMs like the AGM-68, air launched AShMs, larger bunker busters and cruise missiles(refer to C-130 dropping a MOAB). The AGMs could be fitted in bays like the Tarantula or even at hardpoints on the wings. The JATO/L pylons could also be reused to fit laser defense like the Medusa.
- AWACS: It would just be a stronger Medusa being able to detect and track(using soft lock or hard lock) more targets along with being able to guide munitions like the F-35 with datalink capabilities. The aforementioned JATO/L points could be used to mount the laser defense or a better detection kit that gives clearer IR and camera picture
Conclusion:
While this would probably be a Scyth magnet, I feel like if implemented well, it could work out. What do you guys think?
