The changes to the AFV6 AT are welcome, but also have put it in an Ace Combat-esque state where it can fire without rearming. This same thing could be used to make the AFV8/Linebreaker IFVs (and perhaps mobile SAMs) more useful. I believe the Bradley can do this in real life.

  • Instead of giving the vehicle all its ATGMs at once, have some "loaded" and the rest "in reserve".
  • Only weapons that are loaded can be fired.
  • Once a weapon runs out of rounds or missiles, it must reload. The vehicle moves for cover, reloads, then re-engages.
  • A Tarantula munitions container would probably resupply both stocks.

I believe the Shard's 57mm cannon works similarly, where it has a firing period and then a cooldown.

More obvious examples are the Aerosentry and CIWS firing in bursts, but these are all autocannons.
Still, they fire a specific number of rounds before starting their cooldown.

I'm not sure if a long enough break cam trigger a pre-emptive cooldown or not but it would be useful.

But it can probably be set that the AFV-6 AT has something like a 'burst' of 4 and a cooldown to mimick a reload.

Main problem with this I figure, is that currently a 'burst' can only be targeting one unit(?)

Multi-targeting would also be nice and I don't think it's possible for any AI right now

If the AFV-6 AT has AGM-48s now, it could technically multitarget like aircraft do I think

would love this for atgms; give them a reload timer and a limited number of reloads and i'll be happy

This will be where it arrives at eventually, it's just that missile launchers don't support magazines right now. It also has to be handled slightly differently, because you could theoretically be refilling tubes over time before emptying the whole thing. Ideally the AFV6 can lock up a group of up to 4 and volley fire, and then have a lengthy cooldown before doing it again, but not fire 3 and be left with one for the next time it sees a whole a group
