#Night Vision Optimization

Is it just me, or is night vision currently less helpful? I'm writing from the perspective of a Chicane pilot. It's important for me to be able to see the ground well so that I can fly very close to it. This is extremely difficult with night vision, as I sometimes can't distinguish between planes. Well, maybe this handicap is desired or maybe I'm too old now. What do others think?

I think the night vision definitely needs some work graphics wise, it does just seem to be a brightness increaser with a grainy green filter

Ye, its been discussed before. I dislike servers with night maps for that exact reason. Crashed into peaks of mountains and hills way too many times because of the NVs lack of depth of field.

The bad resolution makes judging distance very hard
Really anything would improve this, IR or a clearer NVG, even some sort of RADAR terrain scanning

#

While the former and latter most of these are more difficult, at least clearing up the NVG would be nice

Yes, exactly. I think night missions in general are cool. The explosions and stuff look really spectacular! But it should be a bit more playable.

Yknow what would look super cool and retro 90s? Topographic radar HUD for the terrain outside

from what I've seen (I dont own a vr 😭 ) I think that VTOL VR does night vision pretty well, explosions have tons of bloom, afterburners are like fireworks.

tbh I think what would also help a ton is to make ground vehicles actually use headlights, which would not only make night vision more useful but mean you can turn it off and not be stuck in darkness.

(also give us da moon)

Seriously the night vision needs some upgrade, the terrain particularly in front, thought the HUD is basically invisible.

Specifically, I'd set a point cloud to color=depth, wit units highlighted with color-coded borders if they're within your aircraft's detection range

Late to this thread but I strongly agree. Been having a ton of fun doing SAR and cargo ops in the Tarantula, but doing SAR at night is horrific (I’m sure it is in real life too, but for different reasons lmao)

Idk, this is not that far off from real nogs, the lack of depth perception is more of a feature than an issue, seeing as that is what real analog night vision does.

I think instead of that they should try to do synthetic vision, an AR/LIDAR scan would be way more interesting than just making night vision different. I also do wish we had moonlight tho, and if they do add that they should make it to where you can change the moon phase in the customize mission menu.

Edit: I will not turn down more realistic nogs tho, that would be pretty sweet

Aviators night vision doesn’t result in the loss of depth perception

we dont even have depth perception in the first place
