#Loyal Wingman / Minion Drones

I think these could make for a fun addition to the game. They would work just like normal aircraft, with the airframe stockpile and price to buy them. Before takeoff you can choose how many to take with you and what loadouts they have.

They will follow you around and you can give them orders. They'd automatically fly in formation with you, and you can either give them direct orders on the map or use hotkeys to command them as a group (intercept incoming missiles or serve as extra weapons for me, fire at will, etc)

Here's a few example ideas to get your mind going:

  • Automated jet: something similar to the Kratos valkyrie or boeing loyal wingman drone, can keep up with fighter jets and is designed to fight alongside them. Could also escort medusas and darkreaches to keep them safe from attack

  • turboprop drone: A slower drone for working alongside the cricket or escorting slow aircraft or serving a ground attack role

  • VTOL drone as an escort for VTOL aircraft, or as a naval version of the drone.

And yes, I suggest one of them be named "minion"

also this: you could repurpose these after they are added into the game. Imagine trying to attack a radar site and it launches drone interceptors at you

Also they could be added as a way to increase the amount of air units in the game. The best way I can think of to do this is to add a command bunker building that can spawn these from friendly airbases and a command truck and associated transport vehicles to launch them as shown above.

If you destroy the command bunker or truck the drones will no longer receive new orders or maybe do an automated return to base and their airframes get added back to the team's stockpile

Minion drones sounds good. But it could be usefull maybe for darkreach or medusa witch almost dont have defence weapon.
And ok, we get it, what about their munition? If for escort it would be AA weapon, if like part of weapon, it could be combination of weapon. How much max amount of drones could be near aircraft? And what will happen if they was so much and etc? Maybe make utility variants drones too, is it have sense?

I think high end "fighter" drones should be comparable to a compass, but maybe a bit lighter armed and supersonic. A cheaper swarm drone might only have a 20mm or pair of s1's but come in very big numbers.

A truck launched VTOL or rocket drone would be a very fun air defense weapon. Very unique too. The drone takes off and engages air threats in dogfights, making them vulnerable to conventional air defenses and keeping them busy. Then it returns to it's base to be rearmed and refueled.

Drone helicopters would be very cool too.

I think there could be nearly as many different types of drones as there already will be manned planes for the players to fly. Specifically, I think that players should only be able to fly planes with cockpits, and drones would serve the role as high numbers NPC planes or minions for players to order around.

There would be large drones, small drones, fast drones, slow drones, vtol drones, etc. Drones for any purpose. It would be a whole lot of work to add, but I think it would be worth it.

I like that conception. That really have sense.
But sometimes i think some part of drones could be used by players. Of course IDK how better make it. IRL drones works same, not like full autonomus machines(like minions), but like full human controlled drone. IDK how its good in real. But i sure we need think concept when drones whitch could use players must have in game(like in future 2077 i think that could be)
