#AI gunnery skill is actually insane

Did a couple of dogfight scenerios against AI, and found that they're ability to perform BFM is actually really fun and fair. But when you make one small mistake the AI absolutely lase you no matter what. 100% accuracy and 100% precision with guns. I overshoot a tiny bit in a rolling scissor and the AI hits a clip on me. I'm literally trying to dogfight Robocop. Not only does this apply with aircraft, but also the AI control of the chin turret of the chicane is nuts and AAA too. I set the ai skill to '0' on one of the shilkas and let it shoot at me while doing gentle swoops left and right and I got absolutely beamed from like 3 miles bro. at that range there has to be some sort of spread or inaccuracies of the 'targeting computer'. PLEASE nerf the skill of the AI gunnery. Its hilariously good, to which it can be frustrating to combat. I think this change will help the game promote a more competitive PvP environment, and also prevent single players and PvE enjoyers from getting discouraged.

TDLR: Nerf the accuracy of the AI gunnery. Players have to input precise joystick inputs and utilize trigger discipline, and learn from mistakes. The current state of the AI seems to just calculate lead and fire. No simulation of any "human error"

This may fall into "ai improvements" within the development roadmap, to which I apologize for posting then.

You can still dodge them with liberal use of rudder

I've managed to get lucky a couple times, for sure. chicaning back and forth, flicking the rudder here and there, I get it. I am pretty seasoned at combat flight sims and know a thing or two. Never have I ever dealt with how frustratingly accurate the AI is. Guided munitions I understand completely, but at times it really feels like the AI are shooting guided bullets.

The Chicane gunner has been affectionately named Bob and well since the update Bob has been doing some training and has been taking some performance enhancing drugs

#

He's previously known to not be able to hit the broad side of a barn so I'm kinda happy to see him a bit more accurate

north slate
#

Trust me Chicane pilots need all the help they can get lol

clear harbor
#

obviously thats an exaggeration but yeah

north slate
#

I mean Chicane pilots have been having a rough time this last update so anything that can help them from me dropping a 250kt on their head is probably a good thing

clear harbor
#

do the AI gunners in the chicane shoot at bombs?

north slate
burnt sluice
#

the ai gunner was already able to pilot snipe incoming threats at about 2km so if he got buffed again that's wild

#

dude actually on steroids

burnt sluice
#

the chicane gunner has always been pretty accurate at times yeah

north slate
burnt sluice
#

if that's what this is about

#

though the gunner did sometimes take weed and start missing everything for no reason, before the latest patch

#

so if that's been mitigated thank god

clear harbor
north slate
#

It seems as if the gunner takes less time to zero in on it's target

burnt sluice
#

sometimes dude was just throwing the barrel around at nothing and not zeroing in at all, shit was weird

burnt sluice
clear harbor
#

like i mentioned in the OP, its any sort of vehicle that an AI can commandeer. not just the chicane.

burnt sluice
#

hmm, fixed-wing AI were made to be better with guns too, i do remember that being a talking point of this patch

#

but with some rudder work and turning i think they're still manageable

#

though i haven't had many experiences dodging AI gun runs yet in this patch so I can't speak for 100%

north slate
#

Yes I've noticed the 50 cal gunners from tanks can get some pretty lucky shots as well

#

Guns/cannons overall have become more powerful across the board whether it's from a ground unit or aircraft

clear harbor
#

I mean if a couple other people agree with you then this was just a skill issue humbling session. Set up a duel in the mission editor where you are at a disadvantage in fighter jets, youll see what i mean. while I, a human, have to use very precise joystick movements and trigger discipline, a computer just calculates lead and demolishes you in seconds

burnt sluice
#

i wouldn't say this has anything to do with skill issue, it isnt wrong that the AI got better with guns

clear harbor
#

well thats a relief. i did take note that the gun damage was buffed as well, and obviously that doesnt help the situation, now youre survivability time is much less

burnt sluice
#

the question is more whether that's really an issue or not, and i suppose that will depend on who you ask

#

i think its kind of nice the AI isn't totally dogass with guns anymore, but i could see how that can feel a bit unfair sometimes

clear harbor
#

i just got the game a month ago, did it used to be terrible?

burnt sluice
#

dogass is a bit of an exaggeration but they were definitely noticeably easier to dodge

#

would still get you if you didn't try to evade, but it didn't take much to evade, now you need some fancy flying depending on the situation, throwing the rudder around is usually what i try to do to throw them off

#

shit works vs SPAAGs so figured try it against AI gun runs and it can work

#

but if your situation is too one sided you might just be cooked regardless, of which said situations were a lot less common before the AI gun accuracy was buffed

lone plaza
#

I’ve not played prior updates, but I did notice that the ai was laser accurate in dogfights.

#

Manauvres which will make any WT pilot miss 90% of the time do absolutely nothing to throw off the ai.

burnt sluice
#

i haven't been gun strafed enough by AI to speak for certain on how i feel about the change, it feels manageable but i've only had a few experiences since .28 dropped

clear harbor
#

Exactly. I say this as humbly as humanly possible, I really think that being in a disadvantage against players is actually easier than if it were an AI.

burnt sluice
#

if enough people thought the AI accuracy buff was an issue they might run it back, i'm not sure the general consensus on it

clear harbor
#

players are human, they have to aim and shoot and learn. ai just calculates lead and brrrt with seemly nothing to simulate "human error"

It makes sense SPAAG is accurate but for other units it is a bit much, and for SPAAG I wish there was other counterplay like jamming

Do AI aircraft even have blackout mechanic

Weird, they don't seem to lock up alongside me after I take them for a loop

alr that clears up a whole lotta thing

AI desperately need some "human like" nerfs

#

Slightly randomized and slower reaction times, G Locking in a dogfight, and less insane gun accuracy

brittle zealot
#

oh my god, every game i play it is arma 3 terminator gunners

lone plaza
stone bluff
#

Yup, which means you, the player, are at every physical disadvantage

viscid star
#

and once you throw out some other game tactics and some IRL moves and understand how NO works, you can generally avoid the AI's gun fire reliably (not players, they watch the tracers)

stone bluff
#

yes but they still get the physical disadvantages of G-Locking and having awful little meathooks for triggers

#

at least make the AI black out like humans do
In general i feel like the advantages of the AI are also somewhat against the accessible spirit of the game, Maybe people dont want to watch dogfight tutorials just to beat the AI in a merge, but this is more of a nitpick

#

besides the lack of blood, its just their high reaction times that make those situations worse. unless theyre out of flares i usually only hit three or four out of every 10 missiles fired in good conditions

I just think they should be more human and not turn like an ace combat protagonist

viscid star
#

they do pretty human things now,

twilit socket
#

yeah +100 this

#

fighting ai is just frustrating

#

they are perfect with flying but then randomly crash

#

not to mention for the 50th time that you blackout way too quickly

fringe breach
# viscid star they do pretty human things now,

I think they’re pretty crap with ARHs.

I’ve flown in RNG’s dogfight practice, so, it’s not exactly normal circumstances but the AI will keep firing ARHs despite me flying close enough to the terrain to lose lock while using jammer.

They also can’t notch sometimes.

Also, when do you find firing IRs to be effective other than <2km or Revoker/IFrit with AB?

viscid star
# fringe breach I think they’re pretty crap with ARHs. I’ve flown in RNG’s dogfight practice, ...

You be surprised that players do this all the time, then complain on Discord / steam they don't work.

The ai currently can't notch and dodge ir's at the same time. This is true. You can also get them in between phases, you just have to know what to look for and force them to eat an ir in these phases.

Long distance ir cause people to panic dump as many flares as possible unnecessary (if your process is good, you can drop ir missiles in 3 or less)

#

Yesterday someone complained about jammer not working and desync killing them... I used an ir on them.. some players are so conditioned on arh they jam irs...

# fringe breach I feel that PvE Escalation doesn’t prepare you for real players. You get much mo...

It does not, PVE matches gets you the basics of the game, how it's mechanics work in a fairly controlled space, teach you what works vs what on ground targets. Ideally get you used to teamwork with locations an callouts and teamwork builds that can leverage off each other and some basic tactics. it also leans on some bad habits like, doing your own thing with out cover or not coordinating with your team.

A common issue in PVP games is what i call "squirrel" condition, where many players will chase after one single player who sole job is to collect as many other players as possible to chase them across the map for as long as possible away from the rest of the team attacking, since AI isn't generally a factor in PVP games other than "free points"
