Some of the missiles in NO currently have names, while others do not. As far as I know, none of them have acronyms either. Just might be nice to have an easy way to remember what they are. AGM-48 and 68, along with the cruise missiles are prime examples of nameless weapons. Maybe call the cruise missile something like TALCM (Tactical Air-Launched Cruise Missile), Sledgehammer for the AGM-68, something fitting and cool, but not borrowed from RL? Maybe don't name them all, but a few more of them perhaps?

the 48 and 68 literally have acronyms. they're called AGM
quieres
a shared acronym is a poor acronym, so disambiguate it. granted, just saying "48s" or "68s" is usually clear enough, but names are welcome too
Not like that, that's a designation. When I say acronym I mean something like AGM-179 JAGM (Joint Air-to-Ground Missile) if you give it an acronym. TBH the cruise missiles could use designations too, like AGM-55, etc.
Or like the AGM-86 ALCM (Air Launched Cruise Missile)
Yes, like that
AGM-55 TALCM or something similar for the cruise missile
AGM-68 Sledgehammer, AGM-48 Hornet? Just a couple of ideas
Wait I just realized:
The AGM-68 and AGM-48 are reversed designations of real life missiles. The AGM-68 is the reverse of the AGM-86 ALCM and the AGM-48 is a reverse of the AGM-84 Harpoon air-launched variant.
So perhaps when it comes to names, I think that sledgehammer would be good for the 68 because of it's size and explosive power. However, the AGM-48 should take a name like Firestorm, due to it's similarity to the AGM-114 Hellfire missile.
These missiles may already have names, but if they don't, then these may be good
harpoon? really? look at that thing, the harpoon is HUGE in comparison to the 48
Ik it's just a funny coincidence.
also you could take most numbers and they would match with IRL designations if switched
Oh lmao
(i hate other people having fun and i must ruin their day by making them feel stupid)
I mean, I know what the missiles are based off of. The AGM-68 is based on the AGM-65 Maverick, and the AGM-48 is based on the AGM-114 Hellfire.
The whole reverse designations thing was just a silly coincidence
i believe the 48 is actually based off of the upcoming smaller, more modular version of the hellfire with a completely different designation (agm 179 jagm)
nvm its actually a little bigger
Yeah it's not a Hellfire clone, much closer to JAGM.
AGM-48 Wasp maybe?
if the AGM-68 is based on the AGM-65 Maverick, I propose we call it the Goose
yes
Incredible
AGM just stands for Air-to-ground missile, Wich is a bit lame
Though as mentioned before that's not used as a name for the individual weapon, but is a Mission Designation Sequence to state its design and purpose. A is how it is launched - from the air. G is what mission it serves - it's anti-surface. M is the type of vehicle - it's a guided missile.
Mitch PLEASE do this
Lol that name has nothing to do with Top Gun, the AGM-65 came along late in the Vietnam War, when Tom Cruise was barely a teenager. Sledgehammer seems more fitting since it's the only thing that can one-shot an MBT from any angle
that seems like a good second option
I know, but consider this:
It would be Very Funny ™️
Sledgehammer is good too though, I like that
AGM68 Sledge and AGM48 Pickaxe
