The dev has said he wants to avoid procedures
IR missiles need a lock irl though
they need a lock but you can get that lock when its caged. IRL in older planes (mig-21 for example) you can just point the nose of the aircraft at a target and pull the trigger. If the seeker has a valid tone (lock) it will fire. Nowadays the seeker would point at what you have locked with a HMD
non of this is relevant to this game anyway
yeah, so they need lock irl too
i think OPs idea is that you dont have to lock in game, you can just shoot and it will track if your pointed at a plane
maybe
This sentence is a bit confusing "The way I’d see it is ir missiles don’t need a lock, they just perform as they do irl" IRL IR missiles need to lock on to a heat source.
Maybe they mean instead of being targeted via the HMD instead they get the frontal circle and sidewinder tone when locked?
IMO the current HMD/map targeting procedures are good.
I’m just thinking you could switch between the systems with a button. It’s just more immersive when they function on different systems as they do in other games (mostly war thunder and vtol vr, not something as complicated as dcs)
