Yeah it makes you much more susceptible to get wounded:

The int1/2/3 are the values used when rolling for wound severity
I guess it's just the surrounding attacking zombies, so not just the amount around, but actively attacking the player
I've added a system that slowly applies pain to the player thighs and groin when riding the horse (maxes out at 20 pain), with the saddle making it even slower to build up and has a lower max pain point

And yes we should have the character riding the horse because there ARE other horse mods, but none of them have the ability of being ridable
A view of a horse in a plain, having the various animations of grazing, idle, maybe a camera with a small sway motion due to the wind, have the horse play some animations
The pros is that the preview can easily be looped that way, while with a character, idk not that easily looped

It should be weeks rather than months for sure. I can't think of any major feature or system left to figure out other than spawning.
I've tested all animal stuff, mating, grazing, luring, feeding, baby/mother behavior, trailer, butchering and idle stuff.
Sounds are in and all basic animations (except hand feeding and falling off) are implemented.
Everything else like the riding skill and extended behavior/moves can come later imo after launch

I haven't done much 42 stuff of anything (still stuck making shit for 41) but this is essentially just about objects.lua and then likely creating your own definition just like you have to do with clothing if you want it to spawn on zombies. That's where I'd start looking if it didn't work.

I was gonna just make it slower running through trees and bushes, but not like a crazy amount like humans.

Wasn't it that in “10 Years Later” there were only wild animals because the farm animals appeared dead? Or did they fix it?
Although I also think it would be good to make it so you couldn't gallop between the trees

I heard that if you play several months or years after the apocalypse, the animals (except for wild ones) appear dead.
Maybe horses need to also spawn as wild to avoid people asking where they all are when doing those runs

taming no but there is a system of trust, more u pet the animal more this will be less stressed by your presence

Yeah there's a few idle animations, like one where it lowers its head and raises a back leg to rest it.
One where it scratches the ground with a hoof and one where it twists its ears a bit
In fact, most farm animals have that.

Standing up animation needs some tweaking, but horse loaf is in
you're so good
will you need to use the context menu to get on them all the time or would e work like your bike and cars?
It works using E, but you have to be facing the horse instead of just being close to it, and it also checks where you are standing. So if you are standing in front of the horse and press E then you will go pet it, but if you are near the sides you will mount it
that's pretty cool. tho I would probably recommend making those other actions happen via the radial menu. I can picture myself and a lot of people getting super mad over being killed by zeds when you try to mount your horse and pet it instead
radial menu could be like rdr2 (1 millionth time making that comparison) option to feed, pet, clean, maybe access pouches?

Ah yeah I get you, radial would be nice for sure. Right now all that stuff is in the context menu. We'll probably end up doing both, so you can press V next to the horse to bring up radial with all those, or you can access them using context menu.

nice. yea that would be awesome! I know the devs had gotten a lot of flak for removing a lot of stuff from the context menu rightfully so since barricading is a pain now but I can understand why they are. If you are running a hefty mod pack that think is just a mess of options
Yeah I can see why they wanna move away from it for sure, it gets real messy real quick
they need to find a way to not rely on it while also keeping the easy to acces reliability it offers. the build menu is just to tedious for something like barricading. it also doesn't help that the building and crafting menu aren't the greatest in their current state. If they really wanted to remove it and make things more controller friendly it should have been added to the building menu alongside making it a radial menu action if you are near a window with the needed tools.

Technically yes, I could make new death poses for all the animals and save them as items instead (like the animal carcasses) which could be attached to the horse to represent the dead animal. Basically despawning the actual dead body object, spawning a new corpse item, attach it to the horse, and then spawn the dead body object back when detaching it from the horse
But as Paddlefruit said, that would be for later 😄

That's true, 40 is pretty heavy. I'd like it to be a pretty good alternative for cars, even for loot runs, that's why I was aiming high. I could make it a sandbox option so you can customize it

i don't want them to be too good and replace cars, but cars will have much better range, and even at 40 the storage is only really comparable at the very lowest end of cars

They're 2 hiking backpacks, they don't seem bad, considering that they're a good lower-performance alternative (they don't use fuel and don't have ‘parts’)

The devs said that the animals will never be attacked by zombies, so i think he have to script from zero. Actually i find that quite dumb, why zombies should not eat animals?

so they don't really tend to catch up to them

in theory, since the animals can’t be targeted themselves — maybe something could be done like assigning an invisible “Player”/“Bandit” character to follow the animal then using moddata to tie the health together between the two

I could technically make the zombies hurt the horse with some custom code, it's not super crazy to do, but just not the priority right now
Yes they will get stressed by being near zombies, but they will run from zombies when you are not mounted
I don't know, I like that they don't attack them and just stress them out, but I would like something that puts your animals in real danger, because as others have said, there are no real dangers for the animals, something like the meta event with the chickens. So a meta event that affects the animals and makes you really worry about their safety would be good.

We arent working with the Bandit mod. It might work but right now we're just working on implementing the animal in a more single player sense

Let's hope it will be compatible someday. Bandits shooting at horses may already be possible, given how the game works, but what I see as potential in that combination is how a bandit comes and steals your horse

The horse can be shot and killed by the player, so if the bandits use the same type of damage system (which I think they do), they should be hurt by them

Horse meat
Saddle
Saddlebags (though we don't have finished textures for it yet)

There is a stamina system yes, the horse will start to run slower as the stamina drains, and once it reaches 0 the horse will not be able to run, just walk until it recovers (faster if you stand still). It won't throw the player off
We've been very quiet here, but rest assured that we have not abandoned it or taken a break, we still actively work on it every day 😄

Update from the Horse Team regarding MP release
The Horse mod development is still going strong but the MP release will require us to make changes (possibly big ones) to our code to handle the networking of horse riding, attachment containers etc. As such we had discussed even before MP release, and we discussed again on the subject that the first release of the Horse mod will not be MP compatible.
Work will be put in making the mod MP compatible after the first version release of the mod.

Hey everyone, we're nearing the release of the horse mod but we need some help from you guys. We are working on where the horses can spawn on the map and while we've already made a list of some places, we'd be interested on lists of coordinates on the PZ map of where horses should be able to spawn.

Whenever it's places you guys know of and should spawn horses, or if you scroll on the map and find something, we're taking ideas !

How should I send them if I have some suggestions?
I made a small text file with some locations.
I focused mainly on locations that have barns and stables that may be more suitable for horses. Although they are probably not very popular locations, and perhaps other places that I did not want to choose because they did not seem suitable for horses may actually be acceptable locations.

Weapons holsters or bow holster, small backpack like the school one or the new leather one, a big bag for the horse to use as one horse as a mule, hats, bedroll and tent
Sleeping bag, canteens or something similar, tools, cosmetics/armor for the horse, lantern or flashlight for lighting, extra but small cargo bags, and maybe just one slot for a weapon.
Makes me wonder if you could fake it by attaching it to the player but hiding the slot/visual and negating the weight somehow.
That's how a lot of FPS games handle their weapon library. It's attached to the player, entered into the array, and then disabled.
We do have some ideas on how to handle that yea, but your idea is basically something like that

It has been designed for MP yes, the only thing is we need some more time to make riding work nicely, so that won't work directly at launch (but it's a top priority).
You can do everything else though, so servers can start stocking up on horses in preparation for riding being implemented

Exactly yeah, you can pull them with rope or put them in an animal trailer to transport them to your base, where you have to feed and care for it. You can put saddle and saddle bags on it, but you can't ride yet

Yes unfortunately you will need a new world for the horses to spawn (unless you do it with debug as admin). This is because we use the vanilla spawn system, just with our own added spawn zones, and the animals only get generated when you first start a new world
If you really want to use it on an old world you can spawn them in with debug mode, though
dragging a simple sled for loot hauling or log transport

Any tips for getting the horse out of Meat ball mode? I've tried: New game, select the mod, load in, quit to desktop, spawn horse (Meatball), quit to desktop, continue (Meatball)
go to the game's main menu, enable the mod, restart the game, then load your save

i found a bug, or i think is a bug, when using the mod nexus archer, if u have an arrow in the bow the animation conflict with the horse ride animation cause the arvcher mod have another animation

no it's just the bow have an interaction to load an arrow in the bow, when this is done even ,with the bow in the back not in the primary, the mod archer have it's own animation when the arrow is loaded, this animation conflict with the rideing animation, i' try to make a video

There is a bit of variation in their stats yes, but not much right now, some are a bit faster than others.

If that's how it acts in the horse mod, that's how the base game handles it
Horses ARE LITERALLY ANIMALS
We don't have anything special about them to be able to do the generic animals actions
They run to you when you call them like other animals if you have high enough relation
They can be roped around
They can be fed, drink etc
And in the same way they have the same issues as vanilla animals:
- they'll walk over campfires
- they don't have a deep health system
- they can't die from fall damage
Like albion said, do whatever you want

Tbh we haven't really put any serious work in the mod since release, besides the GLB conversion done by Paddlefruit to halve the mod size, some tweaks here and there and some warning popups I worked on. We're all taking a big break overall, working on our own things for the most part
I personally plan on taking a sweep on a bunch of issues to fix here and there at some point but have been focusing on modding documentation for the past month or two
I think a lot of us are occupied with life these days too. Due to the charge of work of adding MP riding to the Horse mod, that's also something we're not too focused on, especially as the mod is in a really good state currently besides that aspect

Can we get a fix for the controller usage in this mod? It's throwing thousands of errors every second. Its because PZ changed the control scheme with gamepad

so there isnt any ETA on a MP release? Completely understandable. I was working on a mod and then decided I should focus on making it MP from the start and some things that are super easy to do in single player are a complete headache in MP and it killed my motivation.
No ETA unfortunately, it's tricky to make it work well and look nice, but we're making some progress

i advised they not make such a thing. and it disappeared shortly after.
Yeah a simple mod like that was never gonna work well. It needs a lot of new custom logic for it to work and not look/feel awful in MP
Did you thin k about a cart or a sledgr for the hoses to pull?
Yeah it's something we want to do, but it will be hard to do it. So not sure when that will be
is it more of a technical block (like lots of work and maybe refacotring some systems) or just work on the asset side

Our best theory is basically to make a new vehicle that is modeled to look like a wagon/cart, have a seat in the front of it, and then more seats wherever else.
The front seat would be for the horse to "sit" in, which they can because they are a subclass of IsoPlayer, and we'd force some animations to play based on travel speed of the "wagon" (car) so it looks like the horse is pulling it, but in reality the player using WASD is what's driving the car. Then we just make it use no gas or whatever, and require the horse to be seated for it to work
Last I tested the horse was able to sit in a car and the travel was synced, but when turning they would collide and the horse dies lol

really funny that people seem to assume we just turned off mounting in mp because we hate them and not because it doesn't work
they dont understand, that pushing anything early, means 1000x the hate, either
