I've had a mentally tough and exhausting week so far, but I'm gonna write up some Sub Zero tech and general tips so maybe I can just forget everything for a little while

90% of this i got from MKTomBrady on youtube. The other 10% i got from Twitter, other Sub players or i found out myself

Sub is not a pressure heavy character like Johnny and his gameplan doesn't revolve around setting up the klone, yeeting your opponent into or even yeeting the klone itself.
(Sub has one button that is plus on block and that is Stand 4 that is+3)

Sub has more zoning than he's ever had, and his gameplan revolves around conditioning, mixups, space control, zoning and mind games with the klone

Sub's best pokes are D1 and D3. They have almost the same range and sub can special cancel klone or a different special move from both pokes on block

I was trying out a new character and I would've probably won if I played my main one'. I went to play another match, when I suddenly got kicked out and signed out of my account. And then I signed in, only to find out I got a 7 day suspension. Furious at realization of what happened, I just turned off the console and went to do something else.

Things aren't looking really good for Quan

I'm actually debating if I even want to really buy him on my account

I spent quite a lot of time labbing him
And like...
No 7f move
His St. 1 is slow af
Even his D1 is very shitty, also slow and no range
His combos do very little dmg, specially for how slow he is and there is NO REASON his launcher tentacle move costs 2 bars.
ALL of his strings have gaps and none are plus
He only has one mid and it doesn't even lead to anything
I also kinda feel like he has less strings than average characters
His overhead is slow af and doesn't lead to anything
His armored move is one of the slowest in the game, people are able to block even if they tried to meaty depending on the char
And he has 900Hp, so everything hurts

I get that he is supposed to be a heavy zoner and not play much from close distance
But even for zoning, he needs to set up the portal for it to be really functional
And Idk if just backdashing and spamming projectiles is smt I personally like

Plus, even then, if that's what he's supposed to do, just spam projectiles...
Anyone with a teleport (and that's the whole cast) just fuck him up
Or even worse... Motaro and Sub Kameos. It's IMPOSSIBLE to even start his game if my opponent can simply ignore my projectiles or reflect them back to me
To make it worse, his Ex fireball is SHIT. Slower than non ex one and even if you do the fast version, your opponent is able to throw their project and STILL BLOCK
So even if I try to play zoning with him, it's a bit better if I have Lao or Sektor, but still isn't good enough for me to overlook ALL of these problems.

And you can say "Just St. 4 before projectiles"
It's a high, and it doesn't connect even if my opponent is blocking low

I see no reason WHATSOEVER to choose him over Shang.
Shang is also a zoner, but he doesn't need portals to throw 3 skulls
His ascending skull is faster and better than Quan's descending one
And he is TREMENDOUSLY better up close

But his gameplay is being REALLY demotivating to me atm

  • Kitana's lift gives everyone a superjump, the fan toss is -6 on block (as well as a combo extender).
  • Mileena's roll is an overhead and sai ambush is like Sonya's ambush. Her throw is 6%, but is super plus on hit and restands.
  • Jade's glaive is like Sareena's, but you recover much faster. However, if you go for any buff/setup move (Li Mei lantern, Sindel commands, Nitara blood sacrifice...) inbetween hits, it will not combo.
  • Universally, she has a move in which she covers you in glass and you get 50% damage reduction on block and hit on your next incoming attack.
