#Looking for a best friend, a sparring partner

Ik I'm probably not going to get this & I might be asking TOO much, but this is the best way I can ask for help; not only with improvement but professional & friendly socialization. I just came back to the game after taking a break for months, I'm starting to see myself having more fun when I play, win or lose, especially now that I have more friends to play. However, I still desire greater heights & I'm constantly consume by my shortcomings because I still have much more guilty gear to play just to understand. I'll have matches where I'm 1% close to winning & I choke or become overwhelmed. Its weird especially because sometimes at times when it feels like I'm blocking, I'm not blocking at all or stuff I would think I could get out of by jumping or back stepping doesn't exactly work out, although to me, it seemed like the best option, but I was still punished for it. Bottom line: more than a coach, I'd appreciate someone's time, critical feedback, & open availability. I want to be selfish af by firmly taking 1st place by my hands, by my means, from any & every resource.

Can't promise you games cos i'm EU and you're NA west but i'm happy to do replay review, general advice and the like

strong lark
#

I can do some basic baiken coaching, but concrete things will be iffy

real birch
#

That’s fine, whatever works. I’m religiously a Tekken player, so sometimes the game’s logic itself to me with guilty gear can be frustrating.

#

Shoot me a dm whenever either of you are free & I’ll keep it in the meantime.

can't promise a lot, but I'll be happy to help when I can!

@real birch you be on in like 30?

real birch
#

Yeah.

strong lark
#

Aim for 5 then? We do some practice?

real birch
#

Yeah, that works for me.

strong lark

real birch

Omw rn

strong lark
#

whatcha wanta work on?

real birch
#

Defense? 🤔

strong lark
#

ok

#

that was a really good rc

strong lark
#

what were you trying to beat on wakeup? i ch you alot in those rounds

real birch
#

Anything

#

I just assume I can beat anything out that’s been done to me with grabs & mashes of 1, but I’m not everybody else & when I do it, I’m dead

strong lark
#

well most people at higher floors will have their meatys down so you will just explode for trying without a read

real birch
#

I was doing so much better yesterday & for some reason, I’m not even running the way I want to rn either.

real birch
strong lark
#

im feeling it too. i feel like im geting alot of input drops

#

yes

#

most have a cs meaty

#

that has the same timing off of 2d

#

or any hkd

#

baiken has serveral

#

most common being 41236h~h > IAD > j236k > 4Cs

real birch
#

Is that in the #baikens-onsen?

#

I’m still not familiar with guilty gear terminology

strong lark
#

no its not pinned for some reason

#

if you have any questions i can answer

strong lark
#

your abare defense is pretty good actually

#

you know when to mash

real birch
#

I’m literally beaten on EVERYTHING I could do

strong lark
#

thats not true at all

#

you took several rounds and several games

#

because you correctly challenged me

#

like

#

dont sell yourself short

real birch
#

It kills me sometime how I even see the move going through & I’m grabbed when I thought I was safe to throw it out.

#

Or like sometimes where for some weird reason, you can crouch against grabs & not get grabbed, even when its command, but you just get the grab anyway. 🤔 That’s the logic I can’t grasp properly when stuff like that happens that doesn’t make sense.

strong lark
#

That's just a timing error

real birch
#

I ultimately just made bad decisions; whenever I try to correct myself the following fight, I figured “if I do this this time, this should work out & be a better option” vs what I did last game.

strong lark
#

You have 5f of throw invulnerability after hitstun, blockstun, or recovery

real birch
#

I guess that would explain how sometimes I attempt to jump or backdash out of those kinds of situations, but as you saw, they came out as counters, me just getting hit, or I’m taking the grab because I assume I can make it out of this by this simple thing, but fundamentally, I’m stuck there as the game designs or the character that locks me down from pressure.

strong lark
#

I won't lie. Imo the best defense in this game is running your own offense. Even Axl has wild knockdown game

real birch
#

Even beating somebody or something on wake-up sometimes is really weird rather than difficult; Ik its tough af to get out of a meaty, but I guess it varies from character to character on who does what or what can beat what with whatever character? 🤔 Even in certain circumstances, I would be running forward but not as much to get the block in, but maybe I’m not reacting fast enough or there’s not a reaction like that? (Probably a stupid thing to say.) 🤷🏾‍♂️

strong lark
#

so characters with invul reversals can beat meaties, but those lose to grab

#

and grab loses to mashing(a <= 5f button)

#

baiken can beat meaties too with parry

#

which you did really well

real birch
#

Sometimes, I try to do the parry input motion while someone is hitting me, but I think it opens my defense & works against me more than proper timing.

#

Could you DM me those meaty options with baiken to note of please?

#

The yojohnson cross up can only work on counterhit with that carry you got, right?

strong lark
#

5k yeah

#

2s is the better option

#

i just dont have the muscle memory

#

so the only true meaty i know is the one i mentioned before

#

ender 41236h~h > IAD > j236k > 4Cs

real birch
#

Ggs. I would have played a longer set of games, but I was getting to the point of recklessness & I would just be getting in my own way at that rate.

real birch
#

Can I get some help with some matches tomorrow? I need 1 on 1 improvement or something because I’m started to get tilted sometimes whenever I run in park on the ec earlier & I need a break from today.

#

I have a hard time stepping away from the game, let alone the controller because I become obsessed with trying to destroy my opponent, hence I am self destructing on the inside, self sabotaging because it makes me fall into the repetitive patterns or fuck up inputs, then I’m alt-4. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I’m getting close to taking a break again, even though I’m not trying to & this is somewhat my only outlet to be myself & I’m honestly tired of getting my ass beat, whether its my fault or the opponent’s. 🤷🏾‍♂️

#

Ik I haven’t ping anybody for matches or whatever because I tend to be impatient if no one responds, that’s mainly why I just search for comp instead of asking because idk no one or anybody’s time is really guaranteed. I’m not trying to sound pessimistic, I really want to get out of this mindset.

best way to improve up to celestial is labbing imo, run through this 7 part series and be able to do anything it calls for consistently

goes over rps, what to look for in neutral/defensive tech

real birch
#

Well, I have no problem climbing the ranks. In fact, I have a bunch of walls to overcome merely from playing in these beginner tournaments more than reaching celestial floor personally in my own elo. That’s the main reason why I’m currently staying where I’m at in the first place because if I just get to the top floor, I would be unprepared.

#

i just mentioned celestial as basically saying how to improve

#

getting loopable oki from your mix is very important. Once you get a knockdown as baiken, it should be game winning as long as the opponent doesn't IB everything or just guess correctly a lot, which is hard to do, due to the fact that her mix is so good

#

so unless you can do majority of those options and understand why they work, there's more to lab
