I feel like Having a smaller more compact map that's fully traversable is the best iteration of that design concept

Jin dahad just has an arena that’s completely cut off from the rest of the map while nu udra has one boss area where you gotta take the seikrat to enter, there’s the zoh Shia arena and gog arena where it’s just like jin dahads stage where you’re practically just jumping into it

Like the jungle in old MH was ass to traverse because you had to loop around and it was weird and kinda unintuitive if you haven't played it enough

The jungle in rise is like my favorite map because you can cross over areas super fast and shit it's sick

If this is the end of the "wilds new monster cycle" my opinion on it is simply that the core gameplay loop is fun, it's just everything around that loop is not fun

Like it's weird, comparing it to the last mainline teams base game outing world, I think the highs wilds hits are way higher, but the lows are at the same time practically underground.

The biggest drawback to Wilds imo is the emphasis on cinematic realism, because it kinda gets rid of the fun aspects of video game limitations, and terrible optimization

While it's great I can watch the Palico who carted me back to camp run all the way back to the main camp, that doesn't really matter if my game crashes once it starts raining

the forced plot that makes early game multiplayer a bitch? feels like its trying to be a FF game

i would not care about these things if they at least were competrent but they simply arent, and each thing that doesnt work compunds on itself

the crashes become way more annoying when the time it takes to get back to where i was is artificially lengthened by the stupid plot idc about, the big open maps just end up enabling more expositional rambling idc about. then theres the fact that since the base game in wilds is so easy i barely feel like im even playing the game because ill have a 3-5 minute fight, then 10-15 minutes of exposition.

then theres the difficulty

the game is a flat line right above zero up to HR, then its a little harder, then with HR tempered 9stars it shoots up like a hundred fold

it is a difficulty step graph, and its not even like a interesting step graph. its literally "this monster is relatively normal and easy" to "same fightbut he oneshots you"

unless your name is omega wherein you have the MMO Role gimmick bullshit and the teamwipe DPS check

ngl i have no intent on buying whatever the G rank expansion for wilds is gonna be because i genuinely do not trust them to make a good product, because IB took a relatively alright game and just bloated it with a annoying gimmick that serves no real purpose aside from countering the bloat that purely exists to facilitate the gimmick (clutch claw). so imagining that kind of annoyance compunded by the bullshit in base wilds? nah im good

What makes them fun? Like aside from having help

I haven't run with them, except story quests where they are required

they have fun interactions with eachother and you, they have special hunting helpers they can use in hunts, and its fun deciding which ones to bring because they all have different playstyles and strengths and weaknesses

like i bring elder fugen because he can use hammer and is very aggressive, but he never heals so i also bring rondine who heals frequently and likes supporting the player

oh they also all know how to sleepbombn

im pretty happy with the build i got

i would be happier if i got omega bonus on the greastword with something ill use but i already got 3 armor bonuses
