See, think the thing about what people call the “real weapons” is that they lack mobility. The movesets are cool but I have to wait a lottttt longer between attacks due to having to be very careful with spacing
With Dual Blades and insect glaive, you can disengage and avoid really quick. So you can be a lot more reactionary
While with slower weapons, due to no straight cancelling out of animations, you need to hold back and wait for the enemy to slow down before engaging.
Mostly it’s just a gameplay loop I’m not used to due to being able to treat it like dark souls with the speed at which I can hop in for damage between pretty much any attack and stay in for a while before suddenly disengaging

for swaxe, you can use morph attacks to engage and disengage
in rise
if you hold a direction when doing them, you move in that direction
the key to playing swaxe in rise, as stupid as it sounds, is just spamming morph attacks
that's how you can keep both gauges up
and manuever around a monster
this video is very good
make sure to have rapid morph 3 and evade extender 1/2
the weapon can be very committal at times, but you can move around pretty quickly with it
learning when you can route into combo strings and when rapid morph strings are useful is part of getting better at the weapon
and it's also part of why it's such a fun weapon to play
once you get a handle on what moves can be used where, the weapon's depth is unmatched

Swaxe is so fucking strong. But with how fast I’m charging the sword meter nowadays. Most fights end up being a series of finishing discharge on full meter, then, on the final charge with recoil, use soaring Wyvern for another few hundred damage. Then attach again immediately after.
