There's a way around jt
Would probably still take forever though
And would be a pain to render without loading zones
Personally, I kinda hope we get to keep the grapple hooking around mechanic from rise
Not nessesarily keep wirbugs, but keep the ability to swing around fast
Great Wirebugs were the best thing Rise introduced
Honestly I just really love running around the maps in rise
If you know what your doing you can cross maps super fast even without dogs, by combining wiredashes, great wirebugs, and sliding
Shit makes you feel like spiderman
The doggies are good too
Would love to bring them back, especially if the wire dashing is out of the question
If we gonna keep jacking up the monsters, we definitely gotta jack up the hunters too
I have been yet again reminded of dingbats who can't let me get the wakeup hit when the monster is sleeping
MF was on DBs, went away from the monster, so I set up TCS, and he did spiral slash right in front of me before I did TCS

MH players when they have to allow others to fullfil their roles for .000000001 pico seconds
From now on I'm bringing barrel bomb Ses so I can throw them at people like that from now on
Them MFers lucky Surge slash GS can't throw people like normal GS
So that's what the frenzy virus is
Really puts into context what that Frenzy art in GU was
Who would've thought?
Chug the grimace shake
Truely they are built different
Gigachads
Like the fact they can take a rocket dive from orbit is nutty
The fact they wear the flesh of gods is also pretty impressive
I would play the game in JP just for the old elder guy's voice
and some of the male PC voices
a good thing about bows is that you don't have to deal with monsters that lets you attack for only 1-2 second without going for a attack or a makes a pose that doesn't let you reach them with regular weapons
Yeah, gunner weapons are nice
I hate Rathians
Real
what does the red butterflys mean when its on top of an enemy
Are you in MR?
MR?
Master Rank
No, it's a different thing
The glowy parts
I think there's a weak spot that makes them explode and stuns them?
i'm not sure
it might only be a weak spot in certain attacks though
Just hit the parts with the purple fire
His arms
if there is fire I mean
If you get hit by his purple fire you get blighted with hellfire, making the next hit you take do extra damage, but if you wiredash/use a silkbind that acts like a wiredash you leave a little purple flame on the ground which can knock a monster over if they hit it, or if you hit it when they're neat it
That only works the first time tho, after that it just does set damage, like a barrel bomb or a gunlance shell
and that works at him too?
Yeah
Ye
okay that might be that then
He's like the only monster it can work on
that's a neat trick
I'm still salty about the Demo Magnamalo
Unless you explicitly build for coat of hellfire, which naturally applies it to yourself
Yeah
Which his armor fittingly gives
also 3rd rank has a big difficulty spike damn
That's where the real monsters show up
Yeah, you get to fight the good Monsters
I either get clapped or get one monster per mission
Your diabloses/rathaloses/etc
Zinogres, Nargas
The cool shit
is there a benefit for killing the monster over capturing them?
You get more materials
Killing:
Slightly longer hunt
More materials
Better/worse net odds on certain materials
Carving is sometimes the only way to get materials
Capture:
Slightly shorter hunt
Less materials
Better/worse net odds for certain materials
Guaranteed to miss carve materials
is it mostly a case by case basis when it comes to which is better
Yeah
Yeah, you used to have to use external sources to get drop rates
When/if you go online don't immediately run up to the monster to cap it either when you see the blue icon
don't you love monsters that attack, fly around and constantly reposition and give you 2 seconds to attack before flying again
Bring flashbombs, you can dunk em outta they sky with those
Today I think I figured out how the espicynas nuke works, mechanically, at least for the anomaly version of it:
-takes at least 60 seconds to prime after it initially enrages
-if it goes 90 seconds with it going off, it does it
-DPS determines when it goes off, more damage=less time, so if you have 3 high damage weapons like bow, it'll be really fast, if you get a buncha middling weapons it usually goes the full 90
Tl:dr, Time to nuke after enrage ranges from 60-90, with overall DPS affecting when It goes off
Only problem is I dunno how this applies to normal espicynas, because he usually stays enraged the whole fight, as opposed to the anomaly one, who is prone to getting de enraged by massive bonk
I'd imagine the initial nuke thing remains the same, but idk about the post nuke timer while it can stay enraged for prolonged periods
bro I hate farming for magnamalo plates
WELCOME TO MONSTER HUNTER HELL
Farming for rare drops is every hunters canon event
Today I left a lobby cause someone posted a rampage quest, joined another, and immediately the person in the new one posted a rampage quest
Pain

I took the L there
Majorly
Then again I was thinking of leaving that first lobby anyways cause they kept dying
Cause like, it was me, a mr 2 person, and 2 HR people, and the two HR people kept getting wiped by stuff like tobi and barioth

If they can't stay upright for the 5 minutes it takes me to obliterate a HR monster, me being there to cheat them through fights isn't doing them any favors tbh
That sounds oddly high for an HR Monster
Also the MR 2 person kept doing God knows what so I was basically soloing everything
With 4 player scaling
Like, I've done MR Barioth in less than 5 minutes now that I think about it
Which iirc is like 2.2x hp?
It's been a hot minute since I've soloed a basic MR monster
It's pretty squishy
The only one I consistently solo is damiyo to test builds
I can kill his ass in like a minute 20
Gotta say tho I love how Rise has HP scaling closer to GUs where fights go relatively fast if you know what youre doing
Tho ngl I kinda hate dynamic HP scaling because in some cases I just straight up get longer hunts playing multiplayer
Which kinda defeats the whole purpose
should I just play the game and raise my HR while hoping to get rare drops in the meantime instead of halting my progress to get the magnamalo set
and try to grind for it later if I didn't get drops
I would say do the former until you get to High Rank, and then do the latter
does your rolls have i-frames
Yeah
It kinda sucks tho in this game cause they nerfed it from previous games
It's right at the start of the roll you have a few frames
They buffed it in World, which people didn't like for some reason
Reseting it to pre world evade window would be one thing
But genuinely the base evade window in rise is like old evade -1, and in order to get it back to normal you need evade 3
how bad is it compared to the rest of the series exactly?
Worst in the series by a long shot in Rise
can you raise it

They nerfed roll invincibility because they want you to use silkbinds/moves like parries to dodge stuff
For example GSs sheathe silkbind has like 20 iframes on startup
It's literally just better than rolling
Mizu is a goofy fella
I love the MH community
White fatalis is a bitch boy who needs to be humbled
Safi is a fucking punk ass loser who needs to be turned into gloves
Ahtal ka is a oversized ant, and I am the pesticide
Valstrax so fast and they can't even use it to run away half the time
Amatsu is an oversized wind chime, and I am the house fire
Deviljho is a big pickle, and I need a side for my sammich
Rajang is a budget saiyan with that dollar store SSJ transformation, and I'm lord frieza about to nuke his ass
TiL my silly run up>bomb yeet>charge>Strongarm stance->TCS has 2 viable places to be done
Either when a monster is downed via mount and I have to run towards it
Or to instantly banish monsters if I happen to be doing a rampage
Gooder news I also found a more effective way to do it that actually can get the powered up version of TCS
You gotta run a little bit over 90° perpendicular to the monster, then yet the bomb at a 60° degree angle towards where you're gonna be (so it hits the ground *next to where you'll be), then run back towards the bomb and parry it when it hits the floor more sideways than directly foward
This method has you land the TCS right on top of the monster and it takes about 5 seconds to execute, as opposed to the typical 7ish needed for a normal barrel bomb s plant->SAS TCS
Only problem is it gets thrown out the window if the monster moves to intercept the bomb mid toss. Or it just has spread out wingies
So really it kinda is a pain in the ass to do
But it makes you feel super cool when you get it
I have no idea how to better this strategy
I wish there was another throwable item i could parry so I could not have to deal with the annoyance of Barrel bombs blasting me away if I screw up
I have a screenshot somewhere with a espinas sitting on the jungle beach like that
it was super hard, not very fun, but really cool looking
The only real BS move imo is the double quad tornados he does in phase 2
that was the easiest attack to dodge
its not the attacks that make it annoying its how hes floating
its hard to ever get an attack off
What weapon do you use?
That tracks somewhat
Rn I'm running a powder mantle sacred sheathe LS build with Johnny layered set and ngl it works really fucken well
Both aesthetically and literally
Is it just me or was Primordial Malzeno really easy?
just you
Crazy
ive taken like 8 attempts on that dude
What weapon you use
decided to grind a bit and get better stuff
I just used the Valstrax bow set I had, and it won
PriMalzeno is hard but fair imo
Took me 2 attempts but I got it the second try with no faints
I feel like he's very weapon MU dependent
I would say it's fair, just not that he's hard
yeah i need a better hammer
It's entirely possible Spread Bow just murders him though
If you cant keep up with his stuff he's pain
I feel like that's more a bow wrecking shit thing
hes always in dracula mode
i just dont do enough damage
thats why im getting silver rath armor and a malzeno hammer
Oh, when I knocked him out of that I did so much damage that I stunlocked him basically until death
I feel any elemental based build weirdly does really well against him
Ran a dragon elem CB one time, downed him in like 5 minutes
I can get him dead in like 7 with surge slash GS which is my main weapon
Like what skills are you running on said dragon Bow build?
Lemme double check the build
BTW, can I just say, dragon heart plus dragon conversion plus valstrax weapon soul is fucking cracked fro dragon weapons
My dragon elem CB can hit like, 230ish elem
Wow, I should really re-optimize this
It's insane
Yeah that tracks
Ngl If I had one thing to complain about in rise (gameplay wise) it'd be that the rolls are too stubby
evade extender
Like, they aren't nearly as good as they are in other games, relatively
my beloved
prob cause wirebugs exist now
But the fact they nerfed I frame time is fucking criminal
im playing dark souls out here
The base roll in this game has as much invincibility as having evasion -1 in the old games
Yeah, kinda shitty that they nerfed i-frames
You need lvl 3 to get up to normal
And 5 gets old evasion +1
It's wack
Which is especially dickish now that they brought back evade reliant skills
So if you wanna use those you have to be on top of your game
Yeah
I hope to God those become a mainstay
Having the ability to keep sharpness with well timed rolls is so freaking nice
And adrenaline rush is cool
And stat trigger is neat
Tbh I really like how SB really went all in on making new unique skills for sets*
(Even if like half of them are borrowed from frontier)
I wonder how MH6 is gonna go
Hopefully we get some more stuff from GU/SB
Tbh I feel like (most of) the weapons valor styles felt like more natural upgrades to the weapon mechanics
Like yeah some of them got transfered over
(SA being able to morph easier/DBs running faster in demon mode), but I'd like to see more GU additions, especially having multiple ways to play weapons, either through styles or switch skills.
Stuff like combo-able charge attacks on hammer/Dash strike on GS charge attacks feel really in tune with how the weapons play
Alright, well at least I can say I've killed everything at least once now
Wait what were you missing?
Oh that makes sense
Tbh I feel like risen shaggy/risen valstrax/ PriMalzeno all fall into that general "tough but fair category"
That goes out the window though for hazard risen Val/shaggy tho, those fights are just boosh
How the fuck did it autocorrect "fair" to "Gmail"?!?
...my thumbs aren't working today

Yeah, makes it really convenient
That and I like the sanctuary pseudo reference
?
Cause you used to fight shaggy in the sanctuary arena map in the old games
Yeah
So his risen form goes back to a arena map
Ngl I kinda wish normal shaggy stayed at the top of the map in the citadel like what the metal raths did in world in the elders recess
That area felt like it was designed explicitly to reference the sanctuary
I don't see it
The Lil flag in the background
The general layout
The aesthetic of it being windy up there
Admittedly it's the best looking on the shaggy urgent quest where they have it be night without the bloodmoon
I need to go back to GU for a bit, rise is driving me up the wall as of late
I'm working on 100%ing Rise
I basically did aside from the achievements/side material requests, but those are overkill imo
I should go back and 100% GUs village quests so I can do ultimate generation
Yeah, I mean the achievements
I did every non anomaly Quest in rise and that's good enough for me personally
I really kinda wanna go back and get ultimate generation as a quest, it sounds fun
But you have to do all the village quests thi which is gonna be a slog kinda
But gettingvthe chance to fight the hyper fated 4+valstrax in the forlorn arena sounds fun
Man, MH really got hella powercreeped in Gen 5 skills wise
In 4U/GU getting 6 skills was a God set, in SB a average build is like 3 pages on the stat screen
I know you gotta do them for an achievement in Rise, so maybe
It's wack watching old runs seeing their build list be so tame
Yeah it's tradition for there to be a special ball bustingly hard quest after beating all the village quests in a MH game
4U had a couple
Gu has ultimate generation. Which just sounds fun tbh
Can't wait to have to do every MR quest for an achievement
Base rise had one against rajang/bagel/magna iirc
And theres a unique quest for beating all the normal MR quests
Which is neat
Ngl, one thing I'm sad we never got in GU
I wish we got a quest with all 4 deviant fated 4
We get special arena questions for 2 at a time, but still
But it makes sense kinda with how the deviant system is ig

Love these games
Fr, it's so cool
Love how you literally run up the pinnacle
And the fact that the only monster to actually go all the way up is valstrax
My favorite part is the giant skeleton
And how the asthetic of the map changes over time
What area is that in?
I'm assuming the caves?
I was thinking of the wrong map
Yeah love how there's the lush green parts outside at the base of the map, the Grey caves with a sort of blueish hue, the browner areas as you start to ascend, and the apex being on top of the world above even the clouds
Yeah, I love how they considered Altitude as a factor when designing the areas
Deserted island:
Fr
GU had a banging map lineup
Some of them we're kinda ass though
The only annoying one imo was the actic ridge
Like Valcano is just dogshit
Having to run up to the top 3 areas to fight anything
Wait the gen1 volcano or the hollow
Hollow
Personally I didn't mind cause it's pretty quick going down (which is nice cause most mons live down at the bottom areas)
I'm talking about all the shit for once you get there
I mean the big bottom area is pretty open aside from the left cliff, like yeah it's kinda slopey but I never really got annoyed by that
The most annoying thing there imo is fighting a monster at the bottom area, then they fly to the area with a one way trip cliff to the big area, so you have to go to the left cliff area, and through the round doughnut arena area to get to the cliff area
And God forbid the monster throws you off the cliff in that area
Which charm slot setup do y'all prefer, 3-3-1 or 4-1-1?
2-2-2 is the best, but prolly 3-3-1 is preffered out of those 2
The 4 slots is less able to get you skills like crit boost/wex
I disagree with 2-2-2 being the best
Using a fullset of PriMalzeno the 2-2-2 is super useful
Maybe so, but I feel a lot of the 2 slot decos are kinda middling, and that 3 slot and up is where the money is
Not to say that 2 slots are bad, mind you
2 slot is king for melee 3 is great for gunner weapons
I just feel like 3 and up severely outclass them
Maybe the preference just comes down to the weapon types you main, who knows
Like I basically don't use any 3 slotter skills other than redirection
And I have a 4 slotter for that
3 slots are great
You can get Coalescence, Resentment, Elemental Attack, Blood Rite, and iirc there's some soul skills that're 3 slot, but that might be rampage deco
Idk
Had a guy call me bad at CB today
Tho we still managed to kill the monster in like 4 minutes still
It's funny
Okay, so after 400 hours I have finally tried out Dodge bolt, and I can now say without a doubt I fucking hate it
How the hell does dodgebolt work anyway
It attaches an attack to the slide at the cost of making it stubbier, no longer effected by evade extender, and slower
It also removes the ability to charge with the slide
Doesn't it have a crapton of iframes?
Felt roughly the same to the regular slide to me
Granted
There's an attack during those iframes
But it just feels shitty to me
Does evade window affect it?
I dunno, might've
Welp
I think I showed that guy who called me bad at CB up
We did a double crab quest (daimiyo/shogun) in the arena, and solod the shogun faster than the other 3 beat daimiyo
Get fucken bent rando
I soloed a Rajang faster than the other three could kill a Duramburos in the arena once, that was kinda fun
I soloed a gravios faster than the other 3 could beat a glavy in GU one time
But I was using valor HBG, that don't count
I was about to say, lmao
Bow just kinda invalidates Zinogre, huh
Bow kinda invalidates alotta things
True
Gunner weapons in general tbh
I feel like HBG and LBG feel weaker than their World versions for some reason, even if they aren't actually any weaker
I should get around to listening to the MH Rise OST sometime
Prolly cause the monsters got powercrept around them
Nah, I think they were just nerfed
Because if the monsters were balanced around HBG and LBG, a lot of other weapons wouldn't be doing so hot
Well I think it's sort of a frontier situation
Like in frontier gunner weapons weren't bad initially. It's just the game was designed around I frames/parrys/etc as it went on, and the gunner weapons never got that in frontier
Guess that's why bow is the best then, since it's the gunner weapon with those properties
Yeah exactly
It's a gunner weapon that breathes, eats, and shits damage, with all the benefits melee weapons get in terms of evasive moves
Also, there just feels like there's skills designed specifically to be used with bow
Like Adrenaline Rush
The damage skill to end them all
Adrenaline rush is fucking sick
Not to mention the additions of Dereliction and Strive
Or really any skill giving unlimited stamina
Both of which are the two largest damage increases for bow
Since they're % elemental increases basically without a condition
Oh also
Elemental damage is nuts in SB
Like they really want you to use elements good in SB
And if you do your DPS goes nutty
Yeah, really nice that they buffed elemental in Sunbreak, and then made elemental actually good in the late game
Instead of just invalidating it in the final update
Yeah it's nice
Or having it basically be invalidated for most of the game, only to go "oh shit no one's using element" so they force it into a fight with a elemental DPS check
I'm still annoyed by eschaton judgement
Such a fun/well made fight, hampered by such a dumb gimmick
But yeah SB elemental damage goes off
Elem Cb being good for once is awesome
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I have no problems with Escaton
It was good in World on the Ala patch, but Fatty killed it
Tbh it's less just eschaton and more how IB was balanced in general
Like, alot of the difficulty there felt tacked on with wack gimmicks
Stuff like super inflated HP if you don't use clutch claw
The loads of DPs checks they introduced late game, etc etc
Like idk the more I think about world the more I kinda question it
I should play it again sometime
To see if my memory was off about the game
Took me a minute to realize you were continuing your previous statement
Lol
Cooking no longer applies to me, I've surpassed it
If you didn't get this very niche joke, it's a jab at how both a literal bat and a massive Ice turtle are classed as Flying Wyvern’s.
Speaking of which, Scalebats being mini flying wyverns is fantastic for a classification that we normally expect to be relatively large. Since the actual smallest flying wyvern is Paolumu. So it was a welcome ch...
sorry for the weird question, but would it be better to hop into rise blind or with some guides?
I've played a bit of world (20h), but couldn't get into it
Describe guides
just any outside info
Rise has a bit of a tutorial that runs down some bare bones stuff
I guess
Like weapon tutorials
Set building guides?
It's not terribly nessesary
Rise has a really good tutorial, and a training room, so you can always use those
Yeah
But if you're really confused, then yeah, a guide can be helpful
Yeah
got it
Especially on the more complicated weapons like CB
thank you for the advice
Whattya getting rise on?
Get the Sunbreak bundle, it's worth it imo
Dammit
I am Steam hunter
No crossplay

@rose bison has it on steam too
I don't wanna re grind all my shibaz
||cheat||
Well the grinding not even the bad part
The bad part is slogging my way through LR/HR
TRUE
I mean yeah but that feels kinda disingenuous
Like defender gear
I blitzed through that shit in 2 days in prep for Sunbreak, and not gonna lie while I enjoyed it, I don't want to do it again
Oh right
Pro tip @wide oyster if/when you Get Rise/SB, avoid using defender/blackbelt gear since that's explicitly designed to be OP for LR/HR
It makes the experience alot less genuine
Yeah, while they're nowhere near the level of crutch World defender gear was, it can still tarnish the experience
Don't they start you in defender gear/black belt gear now?
I don't think so
I know it's available from the start
If I were to get risebreak on steam tho
hypothetically
Is there a mod to insta unlock all switch skills?
No, unfortunately
Sonnuva
There's one-shot mods to speed up the process, but no insta switch skills
Are there mods to swap switch skills? I vaguely remeber someone making a CB energy blade silkbind thing
that i do
We gotta play again sometime
honestly im just having trouble getting into pc rise cause i dont have all the progress
probably gonna finish fighting all the monsters on switch before i really get into it
If someone were to hypothetically mod in the dash strike from valor style GS into Rise over say, guard tackle, I'd play the shit out of rise on PC
This looks promising tho
The fucken hold X+A to zoom sounds fun as fuck hol up
...if I were to
hypothetically use this mod. Would I still be able to play with yall or nah?
Damn
Look at it
That'd be fine
It's beautiful
Since it's a cosmetics change
Yeah, but I think the new sets we have are cooler
The new rathalos sets? Or just in general?
Just a general thing
Like imo the Gen 3/4 rath armor was great, and the dreadking set was the apex of that design
Literally all it did was add capes
And it took a solid 8/10 armor design to 10/10
That copium surge slash mod sounds sick as fuck tho
Like unironically shit sounds like a fucken frontier weapon
Somebody stop me
Y'know what'd be really cool?
mmm chicken nuggets
True
But what I was thinking is what if the Valstrax weapons that could charge had fire jets when they did so
uh that too yeah i was totally also thinking of that
Mmmm, chicken nuggets
and yes that would be really cool
there are plenty of hammers that have distinct animations when they charge enough
give me a valstrax rocket hammer
I really wanna see how the jets would look on the bow
you charge up a shot and you just go flying towards the monster
"oops its a close range weapon now"
ran out of arrows? become the arrow
Valstrax do have the best Spread Dragon bow
yeah bow is probably the most close range of all the ranged weapons
Unless you run pierce
i had the most fun playing bow as opposed to trying out the guns
Bow is just such an amazing weapon
What's there not to love about it, it has something for everyone
The GS getting the jets to light up when you charge would make it so much cooler
That's what I'm saying
Let the download begin
How you feeling about it?
Just got in for the first time so I’m actually just about to start
Oh, lmao
I just booted up my PC after a bit so I thought maybe you'd done a hunt or two
Sadly not yet. And the next 6 hours will be spent in character customization knowing me

Yeah, I have no idea what im doing in it. It didnt even properly explain how to lock on, or generally how its meant to be played
The combat makes zero sense right now.
Ah
It's considered a detriment, generally
I just dont even know what im doing lol
It's focusing the camera on the thing
What weapon are you using?
I tried switching to the switchaxe cuz it felt more natural to use
Cool, Switch Axe is definitely a very versatile and strong weapon
Honestly, any tips for kinda like, combat flow? Since right now. I really just button spammed since I dont really know the differences
I'm not super familiar with Switch Axe, but I think an important part of Switch Axe is using your more mobile moves in order to avoid damage, while keeping on damage
good to know
I guess I just need experience. But I will say, the game is not great at tutorializing.
The MH classic
Not really giving you a tutorial
Yeah
We can VC and I can probably teach you a few of the basics if you want Vallies
I cant tonight, But I will be able to tomorrow evening if you'll be around then!
I appriciate the offer!
Yeah, I got something lined up for 2 pm PST but roughly an hour after that I should be free
Word, good to know!
it gives you a tutorial, but the tutorial is a mass of words that most people wont read
though when i think about it, it really doesnt have a tutorial for combat
it tells you some basic stuff but you have to go looking for the more complicated information
When did you want to get started?
I’m here now
Cool, down to VC?
Yep
2452
death
In two forms
I've finally completed my first Rampage mission

Me: "Can we have Bloodbath Diablos?"
Mom: "We have Bloodbath Diablos at home."
Dad: "Alright, let's go get it."
Bloodbath Diablos mod thing:
https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/2711/
This was a joke, but it turned into a Monster Hunter mod, so heyhoohoo there's that I guess...
That's dope
Anyone want to do some hunts?
Work, sry
Ah, it's cool
Anyone want to do some hunts?
I would but i'm still in the baby stages of the game rn
^
I'm totally fine making a new character, or using any equipment from that stage of the game
I'm kinda short on time tonight actually but that's nice of you, i'll keep that in mind
This piece is fantastic
Anyone want to do some Hunts today?
finally unlocked high rank quests...
Nice, how are you enjoying it so far?
it's great
I've been having a lot of fun with the game
been playing with a friend of mine
Nice, are they new to the series too?
yep
I'd be down to run some hunts in the future with you
it's just that I'm always busy when you ask
Not really
Hammer players do
I recently farmed a mizutsune LS
my friend is a hammer player
Because they refuse to use a single level of flinch free
I don't feel like we trip eachother that much
since he usually goes for the head/front
and I usually go for the tail/back
The problems start to arise post tail cut
ah
Yeah
it sounds like a pretty fun weapon
I always have shock absorber equiped so I can't trip my team thankfully
It's really fun, but it has a bare minimum of certain skills you need to have to make it the best it can be
Yeah
I remember buying it at the armory
but I have no deco slots
I saw that 4* and up hunts drop materials for armors with them
im a hammer player and i hate them as a joke but i dont actually really care
ah
i tried out longsword for a bit, its fun
I have a deep seated hatred from playing old world games
having like 4 counters is cool
I'm just trying to get quicksheath 3 now
the default sheath is fine
but being able to counter on reaction would be nice
Because you have no room for flinch free
most of the countering in this game will not be on reaction
So you just get fucked
most of it is from learning the monster movesets and knowing when to counter
Except for when it is
I still think that it'd be nice
yeah sometimes you'll just pull it off
Yeah, QS3 is amazing for LS
What do you mean by tripping each other in mp?
hitting someone with your weapon can cause them to flinch
this usually happens when your weapon has really big moves
(like the LS)
Guns are also liable to causing flinches
Yeah, a little under half an hour
I thought it'd be shorter :<
Gotta be good to be fast
is it normal to dislike rampage quests?
yeah
they're pretty boring
they also don't feel like MH at all
I wish that you weren't required to do them
at times
They're introduced in base Rise and while there were similar things in older MH games they were immediately phased out in Sunbreak
Good riddance ngl
Sunbreak is fantastic
yep
I've heard
I like the base game quite a bit already
so getting to play a expansion that improves upon it
seems like a lot of fun
Yeah... I can't say I like them either
also, is it normal to neglect village quests?
I've left it on the urgent rampage
for a while
for the reason I described earlier
No, while the rewards from village quests are very nice, it's pretty normal to forgo them
Yeah
he's a fun boss
I wonder what they'll do to him
in the high rank quests
and beyond
You should've seen him in the Rise demo
He was designed to be legitimately impossible
And no one I know ever beat him
I mean, anyone that fought him enough in the demo was able to steamroll him
yep
it's kind of strange that an impossible boss in the demo is relegated to being the tutorial's final boss
Still a very enjoyable fight though
I don't really consider village quests to be the tutorial, they're just another part of the game in my mind
ah
And he's pretty relevant to the story overall
Anyone down to do some hunts sometime today?
I'm more than down for that
Yeah, it's cool
ok, I'm ready
Alright, down to VC?
sure
I'm going to commit self torture by playing MHrise on a snackbox micro
Oh God this was a terrible idea
You are a master at terrible ideas
I should make this a challenge run and upload it to YT
That would be pretty funny I think
This is quite possibly
My worst idea
ever
I mean yeah
BUT IT FEELS SO BAAAAAD
Like to select the quest I wanna do I gotta reconfigure the thing to dpad, then to left stick
It feels so wrong
That's really neat
The best chameleos art is the art that depicts him as a goofy goober
that's pretty cool
Got another really good layered setup made
is that terry bogard
I dunno
just like me fr
how did these miss
For the first one, the first strike of the swing has to connect for the follow ups to go off
For the second one
I dunno, probably a deadzone
No wait yeah that's definitely it
The circle dipiction in Rise is really misleading, because the actual hitbox/animation isn't fully circular
Anyone want to do some hunts today?
I might be down for some later, but I'll let you know
Alright
So let's go over the entire story of this one very unfortunate Gaismagorm
Tries digging up to get food
Gets ass beat
Goes somewhere else
Floods his own hole
Guy who beat his ass follows him after
Finally gets to try again
Digs underneath water a second time
Gets blown up
Dies
493
He got his revenge post mortem with those stupid fucken khezu whelp looking MFers
No he didn't we killed them all
He couldn't beat us directly, so he broke our spirits on anomaly grinding
Anyone want to do hunts later today?
and the OST was nice too, i don't recall if it's per map or the hunted monster though
yeah, that went certainly better than usual
~~ though i think it was more luck than skill ~~
unlocked first quest for 4*
and that's my gear for now
ah
Bishaten is a pretty fun monster
he has some annoying attacks
but the fight is fair
I will report once I fight it
Just some time later
Not feeling like doing second hunt rn :(
theres map songs and some monsters have special themes
@wide oyster By the way, do you use Greatsword? I think I recall you did
Have you found any use for the first switch skill on it, the one where you fly into air and then try to stab on the landing? I've found no use for it, even if it connects the damage is small, and if it whiffs the recovery on landing seems very high
I use longsword, sorry
I think that Axalu has some GS experience
you could try asking them
ah, fair
sorry, my bad
@heady goblet
Yeah, it's not very useful
GS actually does have quite a few good switch skills though, which is nice
Hunting edge is fun to use, but kinda bad in execution
Basically you only wanna use the plunging attack with a elemental GS (which is generally inferior to Raw GS, until at least SB) but it can be decent for spamming aerial charge attacks with X
If you get a good elem build tho for that switch skill it can do a surprising amount of extra damage
Sunbreak is pretty fun
LR and (most of) HR didn't feel that bad
but Sunbreak is legitimately challenging
getting hit feels so scary now
HR Magnamalo and Mizutsune were probably the hardest
Yeah, a lot of Monsters Have learned from Cocaine Bear once you hit MR
pretty much
they just don't stop attacking
I can counter one attack
and get hit by the next one
while my counter is starting up
IIrc you can cancel counters into each other
yep
Or just use different counters
you can do foresight slash into sacred sheath
and sacred sheath into sacred sheath
but I'm talking about monsters hitting me while I'm doing the attacking animation
No like Slide> sheathe
I guess that I just need to be smarter about my counters
yeah, that's definitely the option that's worked the best thus far
foresight slash canceled into sheath
Or like I said, use different counters, since they all build resource if you're successful
yep
Yeah Grank/MR is where most MH games really start according to veterans lol
SB prolly has one of the best balanced MRs imo
Cause they looked, saw how strong the players were, and gave the monsters tools to beat out expanded arsenal, it's awesome because you can now effectively counter play their counter play
Me
Me: Commercials are so boring
Capcom:
💖 82
Didn't they do commercials like this for SB too?
All I've seen is the ones for MHW
that Kulu-Ya-Ku impression was spot-on
I got 3 Zinogre Jaspers from one hunt
but I can't manage to get 1 Lunagaron Mantle
after 10 hunts
thanks rise
The duality of RNGesus
Classic MH moment
i got two mantles in one hunt multiple times
cant seem to get any silver rathalos cortexes that i need

Monster hunter moment
Best I've done was the insane ammount of Immortal Reactors I got farming Raging Brachy in World
I have a shiton of rando mantles from monsters I don't need in all the MH games I actually play
But if it's a mantle I need?
Nope
Nah I need you to understand
Don't get any
I got a 123% Immortal Reactor drop rate
You get a reactor every time with a almost 1/4 chance to get 2?
Across 50 Raging Brachys
So you have, what
65ish?
No, I got at least 3 every single time I started getting them
Roughly
Posted in my discord, Need to limit 3U on Citra because high framerate has....side effects
💖 8
I feel I should add a caveat that I did spend 20 ish of them making everything that required Immortal Reactors
Damn
3U Rev 2 looking nuts, Wyverns fire is safe on hit
gunlance but good
Reverse blast dash, the prototype
Sunbreak Gun lance
Deadass blast dash was the best thing added to gunlance ever
blast dash is so cool
I'm glad they buffed the shelling damage as well
so the weapon doesn't fall off
It really needed it
The fact the SB devs saw the art from gu, and were like "Nah let's make that a default move" makes them hella based
Honestly I want more shit from GU specifically put in as part of the weapons movesets
it's pretty cool now
though
definitely one of the most fun switch skills the ls has
I thought you were talking about the GS skill and was mad confused lmao
especially since you can scroll swap to the double wirebug counter after setting it
lol
GS looks like a lot of fun
in sunbreak
Really harvest moon is there to do a "MH nerf" where they nerf something by making it so you have to deal with a gimmick to get about the same damage as before
strongarm stance is so neat
yeah, I noticed
It is
helmbreaker feels awful
Love countering into 5K damage TCS
it does pitiful damage (helmsplitter)
Ngl, one thing I gotta say
I'm fucking flabbergasted they never gave Lance a switch skill for the 3rd poke to be the triple thrust from GU
Are you using the meter burn version on red?
That would've been so nice
yeah
Huh
Yeah helm splitter is wierd cause the damage ticks can sometimes just, not work
and
inside harvest moon
it's worse than the double wirebug counter and sacred sheath's counter
yep
What's crazy is that Helmsplitter used to be the main cashout for burning a level
Yeah
I saw some pre-sunbreak footage
Now it's like ehhh
It was okay
Ngl I kinda wanna go back to normal Charge GSing, but with adamant slash and backslide
That shit sounds fun to fuck around with
You got sniped outta the air a not insignificant amount, and losing a level is just generally undesirable
ah
I mainly use helmsplitter on knockdowns/KOs
doing raw helmsplitter feels awful
because of what you said
Helmsplitter is basically the stagger/short knockdown cash out move
With charged Sacred sheathe being the big cash out
That MFer hits hard
Not to mention the falling slash hitbox is kinda wonky
Ngl I hope we keep sacred sheathe somehow for MH6
Yeah helm splitter wack
Why have that when Tempered spirit blade exists
I find that pressing x when doing it
(the top button)
makes it much better
It's literally the best X Silk bind
For the meter regen
oh
no
I mean using helmsplitter
and then
right as you start to fall
pressing x
Yeah the stab
that distributes the hits
across the fall
In this video I talk about how to best use helm breakers and when to push the x button during it.
here
see how the hits are distributed across the fall
rather than at the very bottom of it
this lets you use it against raised monster parts
Idk
The most fun I've had with SB LS is using tempered spirit blade/sacred sheathe/serene pose to reenact GU valor LS
ah
how's tempered spirit blade?
I've been considering switching to it
since the other two silkbinds are... lacking
It's a parry, short ish window, but free level up/bar, and you can continue a spirit combo if you used it mid combo
yeah
sorry, I should've described it better
that's what I was trying to say
you don't have to hold x though
It's not as good as shitting out damage via Level up/sacred sheath spam, but it's way more fun cause it's more interactive, and using it doesn't kneecap your bug recharge
I see
I like the counter style of LS
so it seems like an interesting move
I mainly spend my sword levels via the double wirebug counter anyways
so I don't need another cash out move
Sacred sheathe is pretty good imo
The parry it has is less good for damage
But the ability to use sacred sheathe to convert all you bar to damage is sick
Also it's parry is more free flowing ig?
It's not like the special sheath where you need speed sheathe to use it well
oh
not needing quick sheath is really nice
actually
I'm sick of having to accommodate for it in every build I do
Speed sgeathe does help charge your super release slash tho. But in vessels the more speedsheathe you have the less time you can hold out for the parry
I run maybe a level or 2 just to have a faster release
It's such an easy slot in though or get it on a tali idk
Also the charged stance let's you dash around
So evade window/dist can be useful
also
You basically pull a johnny
Yes
I know that they're really good
In sb
Blast is also good tho
Depends on the weapon/setup
Generally
Yes
Poison is the meta for Raw in SB
God bless Lucent Narga
I've seen a few builds with raw lucent narga ls + buildup boost
Poison is great with BB boost tho, purely because Lucent nagra weapons exist
That's the setup
but buildup boost isn't very attainable for me rn
High ass raw, barely any poison, but as long as the poison procs, BB go brrr
Oh yeah
but I have a lot left
Yous got a while to go lol
