#Monster Hunter

Let us know what you think after giving it a go
It has 4 fights, 2 of which are from the main game, 2 are from SB specifically
I normally don't want to buy a game before summer sales but idk if this will be on sale again
And you have access to all the base game switch skills on weapons plus one sunbreak exclusive one
And scroll swapping but that's a MR exclusive thing (as in you don't unlock it until sunbreak)
Malzeno was such a wild fight in the demo
though I also don't know if I will get that many games this summer
I kinda adopted the mindset of "if I'm not gonna play it rn might as well wait for another sale"
That's fair
Ye I don't got MHR on PC, tho tbh idk if I would get it again
Purely because regrinding everything sounds painful
Save editing?
Yeah
Could you give yourself MR gear in LR, or is this more a editing tailismans thing?
Nah, Capcom did good and locked gear to how far you've prgressed
So you can't just skip to MR gear in LR
That was a sorta big thing in 4U, cause custom quests were piss easy to do back then
I remember doing that shit in GU
On the switch?
Taking my friends on Lao as soon as they hit G Rank and giving them a massive power boost
also is the game a good podcast game
Honestly Lao was piss easy enough to get away with bringing newbies to fight him
Legit just vibing with a homie at 2 am doing hunts
As long as they stick to the ballista/cannon it's free
Yeah, that's why I did it
One time I legit just head sniped him with GS the whole hunt because I could
Also Lao comes with the distinction of one of the few fights where alchemy style actually kicks ass
He's a guaranteed 10+ minute fight, so alchemy is a free passive teambuff
Cause Sp lvl 4 go brrr
Cool
Although valor HBG also just shreds his last phase
Valor HBG just shreds
Valor HBG ngl was the most fun HBG playstyle
Fr
Like yeah it was broken as hell
But it at least was interesting to play
The new HBG meta of just standing there unloading rounds with the occasional counter is so boring
Placing all your faith in your ability to time your rolls properly so you didn't get one shot is a rush
On top of giving you a damage buff
Poor akantor got bullied so hard by that
Akantor when a player using Valor pulls up
The guild when they make an Elder Dragon a Flying wyvern because they find a weird genetic link to Tigrex
Make him a fanged wyvern at least good lord
FR
Fr fr
akantor is one of those foot wyverns isnt he
You mean a Fanged Beast?
i think thats a foot wyvern
What is a "Foot wyvern," Sloth?
Brute Wyvern?
That's the only thing I can think of that even sounds anywhere close to foot
I mean, I can kinda see it
I have literally never heard of that
Me either
tigrex and some of the other flightless ones come from it
Those are wingarms
cause its not in the games just like other books and stuff
i watched a video about the classification of the monsters and it was interesting
i dont remember exactly how foot wyverns worked just that they were related to akantor in some way
I've only ever heard people refer to them as Flying Wyverns or "Monsters that use the Tigrex/Narga Skeleton"
because foot wyverns are extinct
these are just related monsters
also if you ever wonder why zinogre is called a wyvern
despite no wings
its cause in the mh universe, wyvern basically just means "somewhat draconic"
So why refer to anything as a foot wyvern if they're extinct
idk im insane

Pseudo wyverns
Most of them can fly (tiggy/narga/barioth) but they mostly stick to the ground
diablos can fly too
Diablos is a flying wyvern
he just doesnt in rise (or world iirc)
All pseudo wyverns are technically flying wyverns
The difference is pseudo wyverns are the ones who use their wingies more like arms
I.E., tigrex, barioth, narga, and to the logical extreme akantor/ukanlos
Hence why stuff like espinas/diablos (da runny bois) are just normal flying wyverns
I still think the classification system is a bit funny
Yeah
Do they got wings?
They're a flying wyvern
Do they not have wings?
Sometimes, it may just be a flying wyvern
Shit like kirin/yamatsukami/narkarkos being elder dragons is really funny
One is a unicorn, one is a flying via flatulence octopus, and the other is a really, Really big cuttlefish
Nakarkos does look like an Elder Dragon though
elder dragon literally just means "we have literally no idea how these guys do this stuff"
And how they bamboozle you
Also love how gore is still "???" When shaggy is a definite elder
its funny how gore magala is like exactly what id think of when i hear "elder dragon" and he isnt even one
But he gets slightly older and spraypainted gold and suddenly traps don't work
he doesnt drop elder blood and you can capture him, so he isnt an elder dragon
he's like a pokemon, he evolves
Honestly it's goofy how traps don't work on elders
They just learned how to say no
gravios and basarios hatch from different eggs
Like for the comically large ones I get
But how the hell does a nergi run over a pitfall trap and nor spring it
Hell I can even buy the whole becoming immune to tranqs so they can't be capped
He knows to just say no
Also stories is wierd how you can get baby gravioses/deviants
Like
How does one get a baby bloodbath
His whole shtick is he got his horn broken off at a young age by a hunter, got real mad, and became like, actually one of the meanest MFers to live
Yeah
Baby thunderlord?
Idk
Baby Hellblade kinda works
Love the idea of hunters getting a baby nergi tho because if we're gonna get any elder dragon as a pet, it'd be a nergi
Like having a monstie nergi is just the whole "father, I crave violence" meme
Fr
Ngl that also could kind of work for a pickle
i already said part of that
The problem is pickle craves too much violence, and or nom noms in general
also its kinda
weird
black diablos and normal diablos are different
you can have a baby black diablos
just dont think about that stuff when you play stories
Black diablos are just down bad female diablos tho
...
nerscylla is kinda cool, the baby doesnt have the shroud but the adult does
Ye
I wish MH games had stronger early games
Also love the implication of it merc'ing a gypceros/khezu
Even as little babies they show why they're the best spooder monster
The hunt those two annoying fuckers
every rajang you hatch somehow killed a kirin in the egg
That and or we feed it a horn
maybe
Prolly got alotga thos lying around
imagine going to the stables and your kirin is missing and rajang is mysteriously powered up
Man am I glad Stories makes it's non-canon status clear
Still surprised we haven't got a ssb rajang that uses ice from oroshi kirin
carlos is my favorite monster
Like cmon capcom
THE BIT IS RIGHT THERE
i have all of the fated four
named something to do with the element they use
so ive got shiver the elderfrost gammoth, jolt the boltreaver astalos, sizzle the hellblade glavenus, and splash the soulseer mizutsune
i might be misremembering some of@those names
I feel bad for gammoth
Big woolley mammoth got ditched in the 5th gen
It could've fit in the frost islands
It's fight is one of the fights of all time
Its not my favorite but it's fine
And it still feels wierd not having all 4 in one game
Especially in SB cause we have half
There were only 2 games they were all in
Gen
And GU
And stories 2 if you wanna count that
Yeah
But like
They're all the flagships of gen
boltreaver astalos is one of my favorite monsters ever
Boltreaver is what I used to learn Adept LBG
When normal astalos did the head saber in SB I freaked out
That fucken lightsaber
Loved the boltreaver astalos weapons tho
Prolly has my favorite GS design in all of MH
It's def up there for me
Like it's amazing how making it go from Green to neon blue makes it look so much cooler
In SB the base atalos sword kinda stinks aesthetically cause it's like a icky yellowish green
I wish it was more just straight up bright green
Tho I do like the malzeno GS
In SB
True
I like how it's both kind of symmetrical and asymmetrical, while also invoking the look of his tail being three prongs
I just wish the normal one had more red accents like how the blue one has more blue accents
Malzeno GS is peak
The espinas one is also cool tho
SB is lacking in "overtly spiky' GSs, so I'm glad the king of spikes himself, from MH Frontier, the pinnacle of spikes in MH could lend us some spikyness for his aesthetics
I wish Espinas gear meshed well with other sets
Not gonna stop me from perfecting my drip though
The giasmagorm GS goes oddly well with the primal malzeno armor
Ironically
Interesting
Giasmagorn armor is really cool for some pieces, and just the absolute worst for others
Like if you color the main armor a dark ish blue with the other color being a lighter blue
Fashion wise
I fucking hate hazard risen valstrax he's a bitchass mother fucker
I killed him solo with no buddies, 1 cart and in 21 minutes on surge slash GS, screw him I'm never doing that again

I killed a silverlos with a kick
I made a quick tier list of how I feel about general weapon power in GU
@teal scroll What's your favorite Deviant in GU?
Poor cat being in c teir
Cat didn't do too well in transition to G Rank
Just doesn't put out anywhere near the same level of damage as anything else
Hellblade glavenus was cool
Thunderlord zingrore was prob my favorite but idk why they didnt add him on rise smh
They basically did with Apex Zinogre
Yea but i havent seen apex zinogre on sunbreak
I also like mizustune i have figurine of it
Yeah, they phased Apexes out in Sunbreak
Shame
Cool
Rise is too easy ngl
When im home i send a pic
Sunbreak gets pretty challenging
I beat it all im waiting for rest to come
On august 27th cause rn i mostly play on xbox so im missing lot shit
Lol my pc broke my playstation barely works and i didnt buy sunbreak on switch so
Im waiting
But rn title 3 end game is easy XD
my greatsword does 3-4k a fully charge last hit and 1 to almost 2k every other charge hit
Cool
What ur favorite?
Silverwind Nargacuga, or Bloodbath Diablos
Bloodbath diablos was cool
They added diablos with no sub verison
Also the spider
I think they were lazy with spider cause fire spider then= blast spider im like it almost the same XD
It would been cool if it was like ice or something opposite
It is what it is
Hopefully we gonna get a second GU coming soon
Since there's a big anniversary coming soon
That would be amazing
tried the demo
I'm not sure if the game's for me tbh
the whole control scheme just feels off
I do not unfortunately
controller

Well I don’t own it anymore
You should change that
What platform is it on again
Switch
I gotta get the money install

Wait how expensive is it again
It's like $30 regularly
Fuck
is it like a common opinion to think the game has very clunky controls
That’s just MH pre world tbh
What about them feels clunky to you?
@heady goblet I just remembered I have a E shop gift card lying around somewhere I haven’t used

a bit subjective but a lot of actions feel just has unintuitive commands
It's depends on the style
like idk if I made mistake but does using a item actually hard requires you to sheathe your weapon
and you have to go through the unsheathing animation everytime after you healed
Valor CB I pretty solid, but it shift's the weapon really far away from SAED
Which is why I don’t like rise CB
Since it mainly focuses on SAED
Shift in which way?
hmmmm
Isn’t there 2 other options
But it's more phial efficient, generally
There's 5, actually
What are the other ones
Guild, Striker, Adept, Aerial, and Alchemy
I forgot one before I started writing that
Yeah, the game is generally pretty committal about that sort of stuff
Hmmm neat
Yeah, there's a lot of play style variety in GU thanks to the style system
Yeah
the day I play a dif weapon is the day the sun explode
I dunno man, I think you gonna wanna experiment when it comes to GU
Who knows maybe
I been thinking of alternative builds I could try making, but I like my current build way too much
Unga
Ye?
Why didn't you tell me the Primordial Malzeno Greatsword looked so fucking cool
Wow that's a lot lower quality than I thought it'd be
Yeah, but it's still fucking sick
I coulda sworn I said it looked cool or smth
Such great boss
Hopefully you find it soon
i turned my room uspide down no luck
Just gonna have to wait for the next opportunity man
Unless you magically find the card somehow
Very unfortunate
i would pay out of pocet rn for it
but remnant 2 comes out soon
and i really want that
That's fair
tbh I think I'm gonna try the game again
I was pretty sleepy so I assume that being in bad mood contributed to me not liking the game
Maybe
gonna try different weapons this time
What weapon did you try last time?
bow and the sword/axe thing
Switch Axe or Charge Blade?
switch axe I'm pretty sure
Ah, okay
that goes sword and board in the demo
You want like a real quick weapon breakdown?
I could use it yeah
Greatsword: Slow, big damage
Longsword: Counters out the ass
Sword and Shield: Fast with short range, has a block but I wouldn't really recommend relying on it
Dual Blades: Fast and mobile, death by a thousand cuts
Hammer: Big and slow weapon that deals solid damage and gets knockouts
Hunting Horn: A more support based version of the hammer, allows you to buff your teammates by playing songs by attacking the monster
Lance: Slow weapon centered around positioning and getting counters at the right time to stay on top of the monster and get your damage in
Gun Lance: It really depends on your shell type, but each one provides a different game plan
Charge Blade: Build the phials in SnS mode, cash out in Axe mode
Insect Glaive: Swapping between Aerial combat and Grounded combat
Light Bowgun: The second most mobile gun, deals good damage, and is generally really good for elemental damage
Heavy Bowgun: Greatsword but a gun
As a addendum for gunlances, it's basically The face tank weapon, probably the most immobile weapon in the game aside from using certain switch skills, but in exchange let's you deal out explosions galore which does flat damage, which is great for dealing with monsters with tough parts, as for the shelling types:
Normal shells-gets lots of ammo to use but each shot does little damage, best used with moves that let you fire off all the shells at once to cash out on big damage
Wide shells-basically the inverse of normal, gets 2 shells that have wider explosions and can do KO damage when charged
Long- the inbetween of Normal and wide, and has longer explosions to boot.
what are the most mobile weapons
Dual blades
By a mile
Cause they have both quick animations you can cancel with a evade, and when you use demon mode (power up state that costs stamina over time) you move faster than the default run speed
While also getting dash evades instead of normal rollsz which are just faster
Though surprisingly lance is also fairly mobile
Cause you can do a jousting charge which goes surprisingly fast
And it has a silkbind which sticks a kunai in the monster that you can jump to at any time*
Dual Blades
Light Bowgun
Bow
Sword and Shield
👍
GL has the silliest form of mobility in the form of blast dash
Bow is probably the most mobile weapon in MH
Ehh I'd argue DBs are prolly a bit more mobile
I dunno, I think with how core the slide dodge is to bow's game plan that it's more mobile
also do you have to use one weapon at a time
Yeah
like as a loadout
Yeah
Purely becausebow eats through stamina when it attacks, and through the evades, which means it's mobility is really limited by your stamina bar
I mean with the skills you get late game yeah, but like in the demo I could definitely see stamina being a limiting factor
Legit has a switch skill that basically let's it stack dash juice
The back hop one?
Nah, it's been that way since late game base Rise
I mean yeah when you can get maxed constitution and stuff it's aight, but before then its kind of a crapshoot
At least in my experience
No, Focus Shot
The most success I've had with bow was in SBs post-game with berserk+Strife to just say no to my stamina bar
Is that the one where you do the backflip into the stance to regen stamina quick?
Nah, you just kinda strike a pose and get more stamina regen
You do get a small slide with it
I coulda sworn it was more of a backflip but idk
I don't play bow
Unless I'm using the chaotic gore set and shoving arrows down the monsters face at point blank range
DBs is prolly a better option for a starting player who wants mobility tho, cause the stamina management is both easier and less vital to your survival (when in danger with no stamina just do the adept evade Silkbind and get some back)
Real
I think I want to properly see how both agile and slow but heavy hitting playstyles look like
So like, a Speedrun?
Ah, okay
okay I think I was too harsh on the game
Found a weapon you like?
I tried a bit harder to adapt and I can actually see myself play the game
game felt very stiff before,
but I think I just need to unsheathe when I don't need to attack and use the grappling hook to get around more
it made the movement during fights way better
the core combat doesn't feel bad at all
Yeah, generally you should always have your weapon out in combat unless you need to reposition fast to do more damage later, or to heal
The best part of making a LS build is you can literally just completely ignore defensive armor skills
I mean yeah
But like
Ls can just kinda say "fuck it we ball"
Literally the only offensive skills I don't think you really can run by itself on there are the evade buffs like bladescale and the like, because not only do you kind of have to get in evade window to make using those not painful in the first place, it's genuinely not worth risking it on rolls when you can just parry everything
And really the only one that really hurts for is Stat trigger, because without it buildup boost is alot less effective
Also I don't exactly get the hype around bloodlust
Like yeah at while initially afflicted you get 20 attack (assuming you got lvl 3), more evade window, and less stamina eaten up, then you get 25 affinity once you beat it (again, assuming your at lvl 3)
But like
Agitator gets 20 attack and like 15 affinity, at the same time when maxed out, with no hp drain/needing to beat a dps check repeatedly, all for the low price of needing the monster to be enraged, and 2 4s and a 2 slot, as opposed to 3 4s
I need a dog name
For the Palamute?
yeah
What'd you make it look like?
You want something more generic? Or something more nonsensical?
I was gonna spitball after you gave an answer lol
I might go with Ash actually
I would just go with that
yeah it sounds good imo
I'm spitballing, but nothing's sticking on my end lol
yeah I know what you're saying
Man, I-framing stuff in Rise with a basic roll kinda feels scuffed now that I think about it
Like you have .13 seconds of roll Invincibility in rise, whereas you get .2 seconds in every other game (rise only getting up to .2 seconds with evade window 3), combined with the rises roll feeling stubbier in general (cause the relative size of maps went up I think? Idk) really makes it feel weird
Like I get why it was changed (cause wirebugs go long distances, and Most weapons got some kind of counter to play with)
But it still feels odd to have a less effective roll, good news is I feel less bad about running evade window now
should I switch from the defender branch early on
like do they have some hidden drawbacks to them
for now they just seem to have better numbers than every weapon
Unless you count them being legitimately overpowered a downside, no
Yeah, that's intentional
are they dlc weapons
No, they were added via content updates though
Defender weapons are specifically designed to help get you to Sunbreak content as fast as possible
So if you wanna take your time, don't use them
I'm gonna be switching away from them, they kinda hurt gear progression
Aight
I'll try to get back to this game again
Oh, so that's why
I was wondering why they seem to be stronger than the rest and what's the point in osing other stuff
also is there a source for this?
or do we assume that's the case because they got patched in after Sunbreak was out
Capcom
I'll see if I can find the original announcement
on my birthday??
Apparently
I think I like Dual Blades the most because of how fast they are.
But in this hunt I went with Longblade for the start and then switched to light bowgun because I got bored of it after faint
Thanks for the tip
I need actually to take a look into how the game mechanics work, though.
No problem
What are you curious about?
I need to read up how elemental damage works, and then how part breaking works
Ah, okay
I'm gonna have a lot more fun playing Dragon Pierce shot soon
I don't get why the Kick Back Gesture isn't in Sunbreak
BONK
Head break?
Yes
Cool
crafted Leather armor
no real reason but checked skills and for now botanist/miner looks nice to skip on looking for collectibles

Can't wait to see what you do for layered sets
What do you mean?
Cosmetic stuff, armor that replaces how the armor you're actually using looks

Been a long while since I've made it to next set of 100's
Why do people dislike Rise compared to World?
Looking online I see that statement often
Game crashed so hard on me I can't even ctrl alt del, huh
Had to hard reboot
Weird
They're cringe
If I had to guess it's prolly alotta people who started in world being world nostalgic
...even though world had some very questionable gameplay design decisions particularly later on in the games life cycle
I like world more cuz charge blade is better in that game
It's never gonna be 4U CB again my guy
Honestly there are some weapons that are definitely better in IB/world than they were in other games
The problem I have with world is the game balance in Ice borne feels scuffed with the whole clutch claw/hp scaling thing
Like the fights don't feel much harder in MR inherently, all the difficulty comes from either having the fight drag on longer if you ignore the clutch claw, or by trying to get the clutch claw to work well, which is a whole other can of worms
That, and I'm not a fan of how they implemented more strict DPS checks that basically became pass/fail conditions with the last few monsters.
Like I don't think Worldborne is a bad game, it's just that out of every MH game it's not the first one I'd pick up to play
It's like, 4th in line behind GU,RiseBreak, and 4U
the graphics in world are better, bigger and more elaborate environments, theres lots of stuff unrelated to gameplay thats better
but all i care about is gameplay while im playing the game
so i like rise better
That's my whole thing with world
World looks pretty, but getting down to brass tacks I'd rather play the other games, except for anything from before gen 3(?)
Using the right analog stick to attack sounds dumb as fuck, no thank you, and I have crippling thelassophobia so 3U/Tri is certainly a experience
I hope underwater combat doesn't return
Also
Fuck Hellblade Powder drop rates
4 hours of farming Hellblade on G4
Not a single powder
Ya gotta pop his face/tail and grab shinies
Lower levels are nice for that cause it's easier to pop em
I typically farm on G4
Since it's one Hellblade with a 33% chance to give one on reward screen
And the 1 Faint challenge is pretty easily circumvented
Yep
Not nearly as bad as lvl 6 HR quests
Whoever said cap quests with only the items they give you should be shot on sight
Same
Tho tbf
The supply drop things can help
True!
I always grab the cap one for that quest specifically
And/or cats, surprisingly
Unlimited traps are pretty fucking nice actually
Also most of em give you a trap on the subquest complete conditional
Especially once you're at endgame grinding through them
Ironically cap quests become harder the further you get in MH games
Yeah
Dung bombs are useful for cap checking in thebolder games tho
If they get hit by the stinky and are shakey, bag em quickly
Yeah I had a friend who ran capture master specifically for G1 capture missions though
Ngl I'm conflicted on something I did today in rise
What was it?
It was a multimonster quest and I died to the almudron I was soloing, because apparently his normal ass tail slaps are multihits, which eats up surge slash GSs HP when using the third A attack which has all the super armor with no Damage reduction
Oh my god, I hate that type of shit
Thing was that got me so pissed off I soloed the fucker before the other two killed their monster which was a mizu
And one of them had a HBG
How the fuck
Did I out dps a Fucken HBG?
If you're going to give me super armor, at least give me a smidgen of damage reduction
I love surge slash GS
TBut that shit drives me up the wall
Why does that have no DR, when I have to:
-do a whole combo before it
-use it as a ender. As opposed to the other two that do more damage
For zero DR
While tackle gets DR for fucking up your charge and hitting the "oh shit" button
Shoulder simply built different
But still I'm impressed that I somehow managed to out DPS 2 other hunters, while one of them was using a Gun, despite the fact I carted to a knowledge check
Seriously, why TF is almudron tailslap a multihit
Almudron is cringe
He really is
Cool idea
Really
Really unfun execution
I wish they went more in on him making mud platforms
Cause that shits cool, and adds some intricacies to the fight, having a half parkour, half fight, kinda fight
But no we get janky stuff
Yeah...
Ye
People call world+iceborne as worldborne sometimes so I pinched that idea
That's the other one I don't understand
It's a precision of language thing, to collectively talk about rise+sunbreak
So like for example; I like World as a HR game, but iceborne had shitty balance in MR, decreasing the overall appeal of the worldborne package as well whole
I would still just call it Iceborne though
Since you need to own World to even play Iceborne
While yeah that's true, I'd argue in the case of worldborne/Risebreak alot more changes from just the base HR->MR game, enough so denoting their previous version is worth mentioning in discussions as it's own thing, along side taking into account the new thing
That and it's kind of more like the old G rank game naming scheme
How
They just used to slap the word ultimate/G and called it a day
If we wanted to do that we would say Rise Sunbreak
So gen became gen ultimate or GU
Yeah but making them into a portmanteau in that case conveys the same idea, while also condensing the name a bit
On a unrelated note
I really hope at some point before they finish up event quests we get a event quest with every risen elder on it, back-to-back
That would definitely be something
It'd be really fucken funny
Like those later GU event quests
5 hyper monsters back to back, and shit like that
Frankly I want more of those
And it was in that dogshit slanted ass arena too
Let me have a power trip of slaughtering 5 endgame monsters back to back in under like 25 minutes
I have nostalgia for the 4U arena
Tho I will stand by the fact that the best arena in MH history was the GU forlorn arena
And/or the sanctuary, because safety rock
I miss my safety rock
Ngl that thing was prolly a better teammate than 50% of the hunters I play with
I dunno, I think the DLC arenas in Sunbreak have been the best so far
Forlorn arena was cool though
I'm sad we can't fight other monsters in the coral palace/yawning abyss
Fucken loved that in GU, where they let you fight other monsters in the special arenas, like the polar field and stuff
Yeah, that was really cool
The only real exclusive areas were the fortress/wyverns end/atalkha arena
Tho gahdamn, the wyverns end is such a fucken cool idea for a arena
It's like they yawning abysses older, cooler cousin
Fr fr
You jump down a pit and land on a pile of bones, piled up high enough to make a solid platform in the middle of freestanding water
That sets the mood right there by itself, before you even see narkarkos
Also I pretty sure it's somewhat implied that when narkarkos blasts the walls off the place in his 2nd/3rd bouts the walls themselves around the arena were also bone pile made by him
Which really puts into perspective how fucking menacing narkaros was
Yeah, the atmosphere there is fantastic
He was a very hungry boi
He needed nom noms
Wiping out the ecosystem was a ok
I do it to rathalos on the semi regular
I hope next time it's more like the GU one, which was bigger
Definitely
That and or the tower from 4U coming back would be cool
Actually, some to think of it
Getting the old, old version of the tower could be cool too
Like let us run up the thing to get to the arena/have it be a semi normal hunting area, on top of the big fights
Wasnt that a whole ass labyrinth?
Yeah
With like boobie traps and shit?
Nah, you went from fight to fight in it
Honestly if we get white fatalis back in the future, I want him to be a secret boss
Like, do the frontier thing
And make him exclusive to the sky road/tower thingie
It'd be cool
That would be so sick
Like tbh that's the one thing I dislike about the Title updates to the games
There's not as many surprises anymore
At least they try, to hide a Monster or two
Like the last time they did a big one was Safi in the Stygian update
Even then, they teased him with a small clip
Yeah
Also one thing I wanna say
I'm so happy
The portable team didn't make gravios a addition to sunbreak
True, a blessing in all possible ways
Rn for the shits and giggles I'm going through missed opportunities for cool subspecies in rise
Velkhana
So far the list includes:
-sandbarioth
-stygian Zinogre
-molten tiggy
-some Goss subspecies
Honestly idk how the hell you'd do a velkana subspecies
Like Goss they could've done a electric one in the desert who uses electricity plus sand to make glass
Tho now that you say that that could work for velkhana too
Gotta love when capcom makes ice subspecies of desert monsters and vice a versa
You could make it a more melee based variant
Where's my ice diablos capcom?!?
Tho tbh I feel like velk should've maybe got a risen variant
Tho then I have no idea what the new risen velk skill set bonus would be
Frostcraft 2
Wait no I just got a idea for that possible risen velk skill
Frost Forged
The idea being a 5 point skill that adds another bar to under your HP bar (in this case it would be designed in a way to compliment the frostcraft bar) and it's split into 5 segments, and it acts like the frostcraft bar, it goes down as you attack, what this bar does tho is for each segment filled it increases you weapons range via a ice aura, at lvl 1 its a 1.2x range, at lv 2 is 1.4x range, 3 is 1.6, 4 is 1.8, with lvl 5 capping off at 2x range
That's a crazy idea
The gimmick being it works with frost craft, and maybe even throw in the mechanic of if you run frost forged+frostcraft it'll eat through just the frostforged bar initially before eating through frostcraft, but if we're gonna do that you'd prolly have to balance it by making it so that taking damage also decreses the bar while unsheathed
Tbf this is mostly because I want weapon length to be a gimmick again
Like
If they won't lemme have mah dash charge swing, at least gimme a bigger sword with more reach
Dach charge gave a lot more than double range though
Also
I need Focus on my GS sets
Imma probably see if I can sacrifice Crit eye for it
Focus is simultaneously great but also kinda wack
Cause like
Yeah it's statistically a damage increase
But at the same time I don't wanna become reliant on it
That's why I normally don't like running evade skills
but in rise they decided to kneecap the normal roll to be shitty so I have to make it un shitty
I feel like Rise was designed to be played with Evade Extender 2 at least
Nothing below that feels good
Id say evade extender 1+evade window 3 IA about equivalent to old games roll
Similar relative distance traveled/same iframes
Cause they nerfed the iframes on rolls for some reason
Old roll needs evade window 3 and evade window 5 gets you up to old evasion plus 1
I have destroyed my brain with Evade Window 5 and Adrenaline
Same bruh
You try lucent narga weapons plus all three evade skills
Actual adrenaline junkie behavior right there
It's such a good damage buff
Combine that shit with buildup boost
HO BOI
Free sharpen+30 ish seconds of 30 raw+12 seconds of +20% extra damage
Absolute insanity
Doesn't bladescale hone buff close range coating on bow?
I'm not sure, actually
I gotta say tho
I'm mad they got rid of heavy shots
Heavy valor Bow my beloved
What the hell is even the HBG meta now?
Like it's been so long
Since I've cared to ask
Crouching shot is a poor man's siege mode
Yeah
It's so fucking depressing how that shit is so bad unless you use counter charger
Still cool though
It's cool
But damn
Yeah
They really didn't want valor 2.0 huh?
At least they put a sensible timer on it this time
Rather than having it be potentially infinite
Those idiots didn't realise all I gotta do is use a barrel bomb S for UNLIMITED GUN WORKS
is dual blades are like the basic bitch weapons
also I was full of shit when I shittalked this game its pretty fun
No, that's Sword and Shield technically
did they make the tower defense missions to force people to do co-op
You can solo those
Kinda, they're perfectly solo able, they're just more unfun than anything in MH prior
yeah this shit is not fun
Yeah you only have to actually do like 3 to progress
The tutorial one, the HR urgent, and the last one
I get making one mandatory, but making 3 is just unfun
Honestly I didn't mind it
The power trip behind being able to solo repel hordes feels cool
Its certainly preferable to GU making you fight 2 plesioth
I suppose, but even then seiges in Rise feel so much worse than previous games
Honestly the rampage isn't too bad to deal with if you focus the blue gate crasher guys first, and front load all the NPC units
Doesn't stop me from being bored while swinging my weapon
We are so fucking back
Fr
Honestly gravios is fun to just absolutely fucking evaporate with valor HBG
Same with plesioth
If capcom won't remove them from the game I will myself
Oh my god, I hated grinding for Hayabusa feather because of that fucker
He was in like, all the later missions, and he always sucked to fight
EVAPORATOR GUN
Go forth, literal, actual gun
High velocity Dakakadaka blaster
I ACTIVE THE POWER OF MY STAND, "BULLET HELL"
So it's the same kind of stand as Shotgun blues
With the power of my stand "Bullet Hell," I shall achieve the Highest DPS in the game! No Monster can dare stand before me
Yknow, I re-realised smth today
CB mains are fucken dirty liars saying this thing got nerfed
They're not though
I koed a MR barioth with one impact phial to the head with a unoptimal build today
That's some 4U shit right there
Never believe anything a CB main says, they lie as naturally as they breathe, if its to make themselves sound better, I stg
Ok maybe not entirely
But they blow it waaaaay outta proportion
Oh yeah, definitely
When the hell did the "CB is a intellectuals weapon" thing even start?
Like, in 4U all the CB players I ran into were chill about it
Fivers picking up the weapon in World
Yeah that makes sense
Buncha dummies
If CB so hard how can I, the most smooth of brains, play it so well, hmmmm?
I'll tell you how
R+X
Spam A 2 win
Fr
What am I looking at?
Gaismagorm holding a nibblesnarf
Ah
They're oddly similar when you think about it
Both dig
Both have similar color schemes
Both have odd mouths
And both can be made to eat high yield explosives
Literally the same Monster
Happens to everyone at some point
The faint is inevitable
So you've decided on Long Sword to be your weapon of choice?
I think that one comes with paralysis, which is cool
Yeah
Cool
For now? I like guns but don't feel playing with them for the start gives out good habits
I like Dual Blades too though
DBs is fun
All solid choices
I can't say I like defending missions
The rampage quests are like that
They were rises big experimental thing
Good thing is you only technically have to do 3 to progress in the story
Ouch, three? That still hurts
I disliked all of them
Critical hit rate
Crits add 1.25x damage to every crit
Unless you get critical boost
what does the 10% affinity mean
Which at max level turns it into a 1.40x damage multiplier
You have a 10% chance to crit
what are some rules about choosing elemental effects
like is bad to have them if you use a heavy hitter but slow weapon
Yeah, generally you only want to use elemental damage on weapons that can get hits in rapid succession
So like DBs, and Bow are really good elemental weapons, but Greatsword and Hammer would be bad elemental weapons
I'm swapping around couple of weapons rn
And how about longsword? Good with combo attack when you have meter?
mostly bow, DBs, longsword and switch axe
and once in a while Hammer and greatsword
It can work, but you have to play really well
Man then why I crafted that weapon, it's suboptimal, isn't it? XD
Which are you liking the most?
bow I think
Yooo, that's actually my main
You actually want to be playing in critical range for the most damage, it's the one where the reticle is super colorful
Different shot types have different critical ranges
Wide having the shortest, Rapid being a good middle zone, and Pierce having the longest
are all of them unlocked from the get go
Yeah, shot types are locked to different bows
oh so you can see which ones have different types from the menu
Typically a good bow will have their top two levels as the same shot type after equipping mighty bow, and if it doesn't, it's trash
Yeah, you can also see the coating you're able to use with each bow
okay I need to discover more bow stuff
wide is spread right
Yeah
what info does this menu convey
It has no slots for decorations
Each charge level is composed of spread shot
I forget what brace Arc shot does, but Arc shot is a move you can use
Charge levels are a damage multiplier, the shot level is a flat level of damage
So even though level 3 charge has a worse shot level, it will still do more damage
Yeah
so it can be 3/3/3 theoretically speaking
Theoretically, yes but typically Capcom doesn't make that happen
so does your charges have different properties if your shot levels are different?
and if they do, are they mutually exclusive?
like you only get 3rd shot level
and not 1 and 2
No, all charges apply an increasing damage multiplier
However depending on the charge you can use a different shot type
okay you choose your shot type by charging for different amounts of time if you have different shot types
Well no, your charge level goes up automatically by attacking, so eventually you're just bouncing your charge between levels 2-3 or 3-4 if you have Mighty Bow
oh I didn't understand charge levels

so we're not talking about charging by holding, instead it increases and decreases by how many attacks you land?
It increases whether or not the attack lands
okay let me try out some bows now
the one I use only has spread
so it sucks at range and I don't like it
I like pierce
That's fair, but maybe you'll come back to it someday and enjoy it
I think its more situational
Pierce is the single best shot type for roughly 90% of Monsters if you're looking for pure damage
its probably the best choice for certain monsters and specific areas but I'm probably gonna default to other types
Spread is the second, and rapid is the worst
Nope
its per arrow?
No, it's one full volley, Spread is really only worse than pierce because you have to be close to the monster to maximize damage
so it has the second best if you land the full volley
like here
Yeah, but you have a bit of leeway
yeah I tried a rapid bow and its much more fun
Cool
Wind mantle plus sacred sheathe, tempered spirit blade, and serene pose is literally just valor LS
And I'm loving it
(I got a wind mantle three talisman)
@native chasm let me know if you decide to get GU

I will, but if I do it'll be through 'legitimate online retailers' for PC as I don't have a switch
That works, we can actually play together if you decide to do that, since the emulator works with Switch online
Oh really? Dope, I didn't expect it would
Yeah, it also works if you were to emulate XX (Double Cross) which is the original 3ds version of the game
sad Gore trying to transform into Shagaru but.....
Original Audio - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l8EXJEscv4&ab_channel=Juker

This funnily enough sorta goes with my headcanon of risen Shagaru Magalas being afflicted chaotics who managed to beat their stunted growth via qurio
Given what happens in the new spiderman movie
I dunno if being interrupted while rematerializing your body from goop counts as stunted growth Unga
I mean chaotic literally got stopped halfway through morphing into shaggy, so if that isn't classed as stunted growth idk what is
Being short
Man, I just remembered how cool xenojiiva was/is as a monster, and am now mad because they did that boy dirty
I mean maybe
No maybe
But I'm mad we didn't get a MR xeno fight
And or MR xeno armor
Like
why?
It's the same thing with all the other monsters who got subspecies in MR, but their normal versions didn't show up
Like, why is it just seething bagel in MR?
I dunno, maybe they thought it was more thematically relevant
Like it's just depressing that world's gameplay design was so hampered by such a mid story
Y'know what I think is sad?
Like
We can't get a MR xeno fight, cause it "wouldn't make sense in the plot"
We get that whole needing to see cutscenes debacle, making multiplayer annoying
And so on
That across every game in the series, not a single hunter bothered to learn anyone's name
Except for Aiden in World
That's more funny than anything
We're such a dogshit co-worker 💀
Even I bother to learn names, and I fucking suck at remembering them
"Who's that?"
"The quest lady"
"OK but like what's her name?"
"Uhhhhhh....."
Like that's just funny
Best hunters known to mankind, capable of slaying elder dragons solo
Socially incapable as hell
It's like Sherlock Holmes
But for monster hunting
Yeah
God I hope MH6 takes more from Rise/the older games in terms of plot
Definitely
Also for the MR expansion I hope they don't cheap out again and introduce "new" versions of monsters, just to make their base forms unfightable in MR
Because that just kinda feels lazy
You thinking we getting a complete Fated Four in MH whatever?
Because we aren't getting numbered titles anymore
I am taking to calling then MH whatever
Prolly in the next portable team game
We only got Mizu and Astalos this time though
Cause the 20th(?) Aniversary is coming up, so I could see them making smth along the lines of gen
I mean hell they could just pull a gen and reuse the 5 rise maps they got in rise, and just focus on remastering old maps
Prolly smth like Monster Hunter legacy or smth
One thing I'm not a fan of with the returned maps with Rise
Is they feel so much smaller
That's a pretty good title, actually
Honestly that's prolly less because of them actually being smaller, and more them being alot easier/faster to traverse with the bugs
No like, some of the rooms just feel actually smaller
Tho the jungle does feel a bit smaller in some areas
But that was prolly done to keep it true to form in terms of how it looks, because it does feel pretty faithfull to The GU version
Although personally I'm miffed they basically merged the beach and the island area together, wish we got that more out there but ah well
Honestly, we should've gotten Desert instead of the map Rise brought back
Also, I'm slightly sad the rare endemic life isn't a Yama tsunami flying overhead in the jungle
That would've been a killer reference, and a funny endemic life choice like the monksnail in the frost islands
Like the desert you first fight a bloodbath in, or the dunes from 4U?
The one you gain access to with the G2 Barroth in GU
Barroth was actually a pretty fun fight in that game too
Ah I see
Personally I'd love the dunes from 4u to come back
Especially cause sliding down the dunes sounds fun
It feels alot more connected than other maps as well, so I could see it working
Jumping down a well without loading zones would be funny
Would really love to see either heavens mount or the ancestral steppe again too
Heaven's Mount would be so fucking sick
Would be kinda hard to get up it in a reasonable time frame though
Heavens mount was such a underrated map
Wirebugs/those grapple beetles from world
