The only option is sidestep, but if you sidestep then you're not plus anymore
Idk, I just think that if it receives any nerfs, it'll be real minor

DE 3+4 is getting nerfed I think, cuz I see so many people complaining about it
I think they'll make the stomp easier to punish
It's technically launch punishable, but since Lars can go into stance after it and use either evasive or power crush moves, if your timing is slightly off, Lars can get away for free

So I think that move is either getting even more negative on block, or he won't be able to stance after it on block

My bet for the record is

1: sf6 patch smallest; game comes out best for it but very little if anything changes in any meaningful way. Fan opinion will be mixed but positive because Capcom could actively shit in the mouths of their playerbase and most of them would be shrugging and going "well it's not launch jp!"
2: Tekken patch is the middle; I think by any non biased perspective it will be the biggest improvement and things overall will be much improved but it won't be Tekken 5 I mean Tekken tag 2 I mean Tekken 3 I mean Tekken games that are best are the ones I already played and the new one is bad until it's not the new one anymore. So it will probably be the one with the most changes that are good, but the community is going to continue to dump all over the game no matter what.
Strive 2.0 is going to be a disaster, this will be the final big update for strive, if tokon is a huge hit we get new guilty gear in 2029 and if not 2028 and either way strive dies with this update. It will be fucked up and the community will turn on it hard because it isn't the promised update to save us all it will be another incremental update, one or maybe two characters will be radically changed and the meta will not shift. Potemkin will not be nerfed meaningfully.

Future predictions: Sega will push the fuck out of virtua fighter, people will discover it is not the savior of defense they blindly incorrectly assume because what are you smoking if you think it is a defensive heaven game, turn on the game and it will be the death of the series.

DOA7 will be the best in the series and be treated as a joke. Invincible vs will be a flavor of the month game and have one year of tournament presence then vanish. Avatar won't even get that but will be a phenomenal fighting game that people overlook until youtube retrospectives on it drop in 3-6 years.

In the light of how many times they have lied right to our faces I have zero hope. They said off rip and in interviews season 2 will be a defensive patch. And ruined the game entirely. And yeah this happens with every Tekken lol what a wild ecosystem we love to live together in.

With the release of Alex and the best character they probably ever made design wise Capcom is ready to hit the ground running oil money including lmao. Small changes made to the big offenders. Mai, ed, Ryu just to name a few lol but will overall still have no system change mechanics and will largely stay the same for how successful the game is.

I am getting less dmg, but my staples can be done by substituting WR1 for Dash up DF2
And then Sen 4 for the tailspin

Sen 2 not launching on CH is really bad, but I can survive
Sen 1 being -9 oB without pushback also killed some of my setups

Den 1+2 I used very little, but now is completely useless
D2 changes on CH have a really silly animation, and while it does give you more frames and "better" oki, you can't get the guaranteed FF2 after it into the mix I was used. So now Idk what to do after D2 on CH

The new move UF1 is also pretty fucking useless
-12 oB even if you cancel it means there is no fucking mix, you just get punished. The dmg is whatever, only tracks right, can't be used in combos, only goes into LEN on hit...
I don't think anyone will ever really use this move
B1 is still his best way of shutting down lateral movement, since it tracks both sides and is safe and knocks down on CH

My girl is VERY fucking sad about the nerfs, this affected her a lot more than me
She used more of those moves and setups than me, I play very fundamental and don't really do all that Lars spinny stuff

She was hit VERY hard by the Sen 2 CH changes and D2
She also used the optimal combos, different from me who did staples
So WR1 completely fucked all of her routes
The general Heat Dash nerf also hit her hard, since she did it all the time and now her combos don't work
I tend to just use the Heat Moves or Heat Smash so I never really Heat Dash unless I see they're like 1 hit from dying yk?

So yeah, my girl is VERY sad about all the nerfs
And man, Lars didn't deserve that
But we survive, and we keep loyal.

It's a high, but it's my main "get off me" tool, so getting a free Chainsaw activation from that is really fucking funny

I wrote an insanely long diatribe elsewhere but short version I think it's pretty ok as a patch and has way more good changes than bad, it's impossible to make a patch that'd make more than maybe 30% of players happy because of how varied the playerbase and their preferences are, and the Tekken community at large don't know of any way to react to an update that isn't crying about it for not being a giant instant fix (because the last giant update went so well)

It's nothing stellar it's just continuing the upward trend with incremental patching and not wanting to make huge changes

They really need to get the marketing team to stop sabotaging shit tho lmao

In other words, if you enjoyed playing two months ago this is that but a little better overall

when i looked forward to buying tekken 8 back when s2 was new i saw people trashing on it like crazy and was really reluctant to buy it.
I bought it because of a friend i want to play with and i'm really having fun with it, i even got tekken 7 to see the difference.

accept it or not, between sf6, strive and tekken 8, tekken 8 is the game with the strongest defense, in which winning via strong defense is the most viable possibility overall.

arslan can bitch all he wants I still see him KBDing and sidestepping moves

like I feel like it is not hard to follow the thought processes that have led to this point and at least the decisions being made do not confuse me, even when I don't agree with them it feels pretty easy to see where they're coming from and a lot of the times the logic just doesn't piss me off like it does in many other games

I'd rather have smallish gamewide patches 3-5 times a year than small patches once a year or less that do basically the same things as each other and change fuck-all

we'll see how things go when more 3d fighters come out

if you want to play a fighting game online with good netcode and want to sidestep attacks right now, in 2026, your choice is tekken 8. there is no competition. there is no DOA with good netcode, last I heard the VF netcode is terribly implemented rollback (but hey maybe that changed), there is no soul calibur with good netcode, and every time someone tries to tell me granblue dodge counts I laugh in their face

Some overlooked characters like Lee got their S2 patch with this one as well. Their weaknesses are covered. Hitbox and hurtbox issues are not fixed and tracking of moves are still there. A player cannot create whiff and defend himself.

This patch feels like CoD's enhanced aim assist for controller players to par with K&M players. Heavily assisted tools are implemented into this game. You cannot improve in this game.

Oh yes absolutely it is.
The obvious dumpster fire of season 2 changes is still burning at the back of Mishima zaibatsu and none of the changes (excluding Anna's) help in that fact.
In a vacuum it is an alright patch, a little bit of a shakeup for Lidia and raven, Viktor getting buffs for god forsaken reason (honest fluke) and heat smash changes are nothing to scoff at.
The problem lies that the season 1 balance (which all things considered required a few small tweaks between top 3-5 character to be perfectly balanced) was thrown out of the window and set on fire by dubious sledgehammer changes to everyone's offensive game plans. Coupled with lack of any communication from the dev team and volatile balancing decisions after the fact just made an already bad situation worse in the eyes of the playerbase

Them doubling down on those changes is just absurd in context of character archetypes and Tekken identity

In the midst of all the heat the devs are getting. This steps in the right direction. Tbh if we could season 1 Tekken was almost it and really had lots going for it. Season 2 when lied about getting a "defense buff" (being able to step out of full crouch into the foreground#hugechange) was the only defense we got in a promised patch of defense and ways to get around the intense offense and tracking that comes with Tekken 8.
Imo Tekken 8 specifically has an identity crisis where it dosnt know what it wants to be. Cuz it's innately a offense heavy game like the rest of the current fgs out there today. All gas and no brakes overwhelming your opps with 5050, throw loops, insta rc pressure. Choose your flavor of game and go for it. Tekken in its own is a fun game can't deny it. Just hurts to see after everything we been promised and provided only to be shot in the back 3 times off rip.
I get it will take time and it's what they are doing but going back above the identity as of some of the characters weaknesses are disappearing

very strange problems on my side trying to post something, splitting it up to test what the hell's going on

my understanding of the vaguely recent Tekken history is this, and I'm happy to be told if I'm incorrect:

• Tekken 5 was a massive, massive success. PS2-seller, era-defining 3D fighter, respected on par with things like Soul Calibur 2. Also kind of a hot mess at the competitive level (STEEEEVE FOX, BABY), but MASSIVELY popular with a casual and wider audience

• Tekken 6 was hyped to be a big system seller, one of the early promo things for the PS3 (with a fake pre-rendered bullshot trailer which, yeesh) and it did not do great financially, both because it was a PS3 game during the time window the PS3's sales were catastrophically low, and because just in general there were some design choices that did not go over as well with a wider audience or a competitive one.

• Tag 2 was a game designed to be for high-level competitive play. Extremely complex, extremely technical, massive cast, first game (I think?) to be on multiple non-arcade SKUs and not just a playstation exclusive. It was billed to be huge, it was expected to be a massive success. It was a catastrophic failure and almost sank the series completely.

• Both due to Tag 2's catastrophic financial failure and the desire to train a new generation of Tekken devs so the series could continue once its core team inevitably die/retire, dev assets were relocated within bamco and new people were brought in.

• Tekken 7 was a desperate attempt to Not Be Tag 2 and get money to save the sinking ship; crossovers! Flash! Rage mechanics! Loud, big, pretty, go big go big get attention please look at us! And it worked wonders, financially. Where Soul Calibur 6 failed and killed the franchise (so far?), Tekken 7 saved the day. Tekken 7 was a massive success, ESPECIALLY after tag 2's performance as a product.

• Tekken 7 was a huge success financially BUT for several reasons they wanted to specifically go in a new direction with Tekken 8 and set out with the specific goal in mind, made very clear in advance, of making a Tekken game that was much more about offense than previous games. This is a sticky proposition by nature of the fact Tekken does not tend to change substantially game to game compared even to some other 3D fighters (Soul Calibur changed WAY more entry to entry than Tekken tends to)

so they have the extremely hard task of

• take an inexperienced team
• making a game for a community whose words don't tend to reflect sales figures
• the game's gotta make MONEY
• DO NOT have tournament matches where phidx gets a health lead and then KBDs an infinite stage for 35 seconds
• Make the people happy who are newer and often want more offense
• Make the people happy who came over from 2D games
• Make the people happy who've played the games forever
• Again, cannot stress this enough, MAKE MONEY
• Expand on what's present
• But not too much
• But enough to not be boring
• But make it good for people who are brand new
• But also make it good if you're not

so they did their best, and did not do a terribly good job in many respects, and I think they did pretty alright in other respects, personally

Also characters did not have universal health, and they were divided up into power, speed and some other 3rd thing

With Lucario being the Ryu of the game and Croagunk stealing my heart

They seemingly removed all the punish Heat engager launchers

I must admit that hwoarang losing this one move property did in fact cost him 3 CH launch hitconfirms between his 16f mid/low RPS and his 10f jab
Then again why would a character who has one of the best whiff punishes in the game (lff b3) also be good in quick counterhits is beyond me.
He still has lff b4/rff b3 and rfs df4 that still counterhit launch

Also made it so a lot of Heat super moves could only be realistically be used once per heat
