Tekken STILL has the best defense if you compare it to its contemporaries and people are welcome to be mad the game isn't what they want but saying the game has no defense is ludicrous

This remains the easiest current fighting game I've played to win from neutral and defensive play

The goal with t8 was to try something new, and they did. They didn't want phidx getting a life lead and back dashing an infinite stage for 45 seconds anymore. Mission accomplished.

I think it's incredibly likely we're going to keep seeing changes people want with the new team, but I also think the broader Tekken community needs a reality check because even if this was exactly what they wanted they'd still piss and whine about it

Theres Arcade Quest. Which is the closest thing to a legit tutorial Tekken has. If you wanna look at YouTube, PhiDx is great. Blasted Salami too but he doesn't upload T8

For a few generic pointers.

1. Get used to a 3D game. Go into training mode and just move around.

2. Mid attacks hit you if you're crouch blocking. Stand block is the preferred block.

3. Jabs are the quickest attack every character except Jack 8 has. 10 frame startup

You don't have to learn how to defend every single string on every single character.

Go into practice mode, for your opponent pick whoever is giving you the most trouble rn. Then go to Punishment training or whatever its called

The AI will do that characters most common strings that are punishable on block and will show you what button/string you should use to punish the AI

Also watch your replays. The replay system will auto pause and give you tips

sorry for constantly going off on this but it is driving me absolutely insane how predictable and predictably brainless it is, especially when I can go to any other fighting game - NONE of which I enjoy nearly as much as Tekken - and see communities getting dumped on as hard or worse and left in the dark way more and given much less communication, with less willingness to make change people ask for, with just as long or longer/worse histories of problems re: patching etc., with far more radical changes to the series' identity in many places, but because Tekken has a resource on screen the series is clearly dead and can never return to the roots of good old tekken 2 20 years ago when it was SOOOO GOOOOOD, which surely has nothing to do with how few people understood what the game was at the time

strive is, objectively, without question, a MASSIVELY more dumbed down game than tekken 8 relative to its previous entries. Strive is, without question, a RIDICULOUSLY simplified game compared to tekken 8, even comparing tekken 8 to the "good" games whichever you wanna call them, there is almost NOTHING in strive that is as faithful as even a character that is radically altered like Anna, and there is fuck-all as faithful in strive as 90% of tekken 8's cast

sf6 is, without question, a radical departure from the "core identity" of street fighter and pretty different from the previous game, much like how SF5 was a radical departure from the "core identity" of street fighter and pretty different from the previous game, much like how SF4 was a "radical departure" from the "core identity" of street fighter (pretend it wasn't all you want, go look up the interviews with SF2 players basically calling SF4 a party game) which was extremely different from the immediately previous game

and sf3 was so different from the previous game people wanted it burned to the ground

it's been 25 fucking years, maybe it's OK if some moves' frame data changes

maybe it's okay if combo routes aren't identical. maybe it's all gonna be alright if new mechanics exist

the complete incapacity of the broader community to admit any amount of improvement exists in t8, that there is anything good in the game, is absolutely unreal. Straight up, it is shameful to have to share space in the internet with that kind of person. It's terribly close to associating with melee players

IIRC (not positive) it's also got significantly worse frame data than azucena's did

Alisa is an easier character to play and has very good movement. Your gameplan if you play Alisa is:

Zafina is a stance mixup character that has probably the best back dash and overall movement in the game. Also her stances will cause a lot of attacks to whiff because all but one of them leave her low to the ground

Leo.. I don't play so I dont know the general gameplay. Leo's another stance mixup character with sneakily evasive too

Zafina's knowledge checks are fucking diabolical and no one plays her so you might get REALLY far before you ever encounter one, which makes said knowledge checks much more dangerous on average, given that it's a lot of "are you aware I'm minus here? let's find out together :) did you realize I could low profile you there? That Tiger Shoryuken is her version of Jun/Asuka's F2.

Fighting games, I got into it when I was a kid
Me and my siblings used to go to the arcades near my house VERY often and the most played games there were SF Alpha 3 and KOF 02
So I started playing those from a really young age and loved them ever since
I guess it's also the fact that you can spend like 1000h on a game and still feel like "There's stuff to do and learn" while on single player games usually you'll play for like 100h at most and see everything there is to see
As someone who grew up poor and couldn't really buy games too often, I value games I can really spend more than a thousand hours on

And Tekken, I met this super hot girl on Twitter and we became friends. I needed an excuse to talk to her more, and I wanted to impress her. I knew she was VERY autistic about Tekken, so I asked her to teach me her main, Lars

One of the only memories I remember about my olderst brother is me making him and my other brother rage quit in T2 and T3 by either using Jun, Eddy or Hwo.

Growing up the three of us eventually played every Tekken game against each other until my oldest brother died in 2010.

After that my other brother stopped playing fighting games and focused more on Cod. I kept playing Tekken and other fighting games after because I preferred them to almost anything online that wasn't Mw2 or Black Ops 1 and 2

Also my mom almost didn't let me play Tekken 4 and 5 because of Christie

Was also like 11 or so I get why

She had no issue with Lili though

For me it was because one of my friends showed me her's tekken 7 gameplay and when tekken 8 came out I wanted to play the funny kick man.
The other thing was that I was initially falling out of favour with strive because a lot of interactions felt like basic unreactable 50/50's. I liked tekken's slower and a more diverse movelist among a larger cast of characters began to grow on me, even if they are more similar to eachother than strive cast.

Reached 1000 hours played according to my PS5 so I made a quick list of small, specific nerfs I'd personally make in S3.

Leroy: Machine Gun Punches lose the BS realignment mid string. (Would still track SSL just like in T7) also can't continue the 1+2 string if the first input whifs

Lili/Lee/Law/Shaheen: significantly nerfed range on all slides. No more full screen sub zero yolo slides. Also only knock down on ch. Ch launch removed from Lili's

Lili: Dragon lash heat engager is -5 ob. Piercing thorn -5 ob too

Steve: Remove neutral Shoryuken. Slightly more negative frames when Steve goes into Flicker/pkb from a blocked string. Also make the plus ob stance transitions strings neutral

Jin: Zen 2 loses Power Crush or Homing

Drag: Heat tackle can be broken with 1+2 like normal tackle.

King: Muscle Armor punch -10. Heat Smash tracking kneecapped. Jaguar dropkick can be wr4 floated.

Hwo: More recovery frames on whiffed stace attacks and remove his S2 weakness cover ups. RS df3 also goes to -3 instead of +1
