Well, if they're a real player you should talk to them in game and ask. Be aware, there are a lot of new "alliances" set up to get people to message discord accounts which will then say something about the game shutting down and everybody is playing some other game that you should download to play instead. I've never gone far enough to find out if it is a straight up scam, or just a weird underhanded advertising technique though.
