If your end goal is might, sure. Go ahead and do that. It would probably be faster to just avoid combat 100% and only train troops though. If you want to enjoy the game though, it really isn't that great of a strategy.

I'm actually genuinely curious how you arrive at this conclusion, no shade.
Because looking at base stats of t6 vs t5, and the fact that doing tech doesn't automatically preclude you from also developing armaments/equipment/vehicles, I really can't see how this is logical.

The earlier might you get t6 the better, it's not a question of efficiency unless you're wasting money on excessive speedups. You can take 2y to get to t6 at 75M if you want.

Truly competitive players know the goal is maximum power for minimum might.

A few notes below:

• I agree that SPEED is everything, so the faster you get to t6 from your start date the better
• That being said, just because someone got to t6 at 70M (aleged) doesnt mean that he got there faster than I did at 95M. Why? Because i trained more soldiers, or LOST less soldiers during battles, or focused on my armaments and vehicles which in avertedly resulted in higher might.. but not for the wrong reasons.. so as you can see higher might doesnt mean SLOWER t6 it just means my might is appropriately distributed and invested into optimum routes
• Having a specific might at t6 gives you a ticket to the high table in many alliances, you can argue all you want about kills etc but in my experience unless you have might over 100M no enemy is going to consider you a threat.. no one will take your word seriously in the alliance either when conducting strategy or doing diplomacy.. its like a kid with a Ferrai vs an older dude with a Ferrari you cant sell anyone the fact that you got T6 at 80M even if you do, your BRAND doesnt show it.. its all about appearances its all about what OTHERS see not what they know, if they see 80M they will assume you dont have t6 and if they assume that you lose power over them and your influence
• Hitting 100M isnt just symbolic, its aspirational.. its a great feeling to join that hard saught after club.. many people spend 12+ months trying to get T6 and getting to 100M..anyone who can achieve it in 8 months or less as i have done with minimal spending and high focus on troops and arnaments to me is a true competitior and a hero player..

My first alliance ever when I first started playing this game was full of heavy spenders who never tested anything or learned/knew anything about the game.
Everyone listened to what they said as if it was gospel.
That alliance and region imploded not long after metro, directly because of this lack of knowledge and arrogant boisterousness

A further dive:

• Troops are a huge source of MIGHT, so increasing troops = increasing might fater.. Troops also are handy to have when fighting Pompeii if you want to avoid healing the more troops you more squads you can send without wasting heals in Pompeii.. Troops are also necessary to achieve PVE activities aroun the map.. AND if absolutely necessary can be applied to sieges or rallies or filed fighting during pvp
• That being said my personal preference is NOT to engage in direct combat, it never was my goal rather most of the events we win on is because of diplomacy.. I am the diplomacy leader and captain in every region and alliance i am in because through words and insults and blackmail etc you get ALOT more done than actual field fighting.. honestly i take a lot of pride and joy in winning events through the PEN not the SWORD
• Troops also act as a buffer if you need to reinforce a specific area of the map during GW or apply pressure in AR you will need troops.. NOT to suicide but to create "critical mass" i never engage in any combat scenario unless i have reason to believe we can achive critical mass, if we can not i retreat.. i have a strict policy of low casulties and i am not going to bring soldiers on shields to their wives and daughters and sons because of my reckless behavior, i have very few deaths and very few pvp engagements but i won TONS and TONS of events
• Having high might is a way to bully people into submission using intimidation and words.. Diplomacy is all about show and boasting and your personal brand, have people learned nothing about US politics? It doesnt have to be factual, its not what you can prove its what you can say and get believed. same for me, higher might carries a lot more weight than lower might.. You want to be feared you want to be intiminating you want to be overestimated NOT under estimated

I have yet to meet anyone who cares about kills more than might, if they do i ignore them i dont care about that element of the game if they want to get kills so be it. in my experience negotating is the way to victories not blood bath

Another tactic is to try to ask the enemy in AR for access to their Scavengers and then go deep into their territory and pretend to be allied with their scavenger pve squads BUT you bring your pvp squads an attack them AS they are farming scavengers

you can ambush and scam points and then use helipad to teleport back

again we done this many times to peel points to maxmize advantage in every way

NEVER EVER engage in direct combat if you dont have an advantage

Many times we even sacrafised lambs in exchange for first place in GW.. we often would mesasge the the leaders of the opposite GW leaders and ask if in exchange for war meets war points we can claim the science facitility and finish 2nd to move to circle.. in exchange we advise our small members to meet in a middle at a certain time for a non specific reason and we garther our t5s and t4s there and then message the opposite leaders to send their t6s to the slaughter

You'll get diminishing returns over time as well.

MVER = minimum viable engagement rate..basically the rate your account has to be at in order to confidently play in the field and rally with positive trades against 90% of opponents...once you reach MVER in the Meta you halt spending until new Meta is pushed.. so spending isn't linear it is highly tilted to early 7 months and starts to decline as you reach mver
