Def could be better against ranged since it reduces skill damage, while basic atk damage wont help with skill damage, but def could only be a normal stat while basic damage reduction is a better overall multiplier etc.

All good. We were all new once. I'd recommend leaving as much in the bag in item form as you can and only using those items when you are doing things that require the resources, since that bag is 100% safe from loss if a player decides to attack your shelter.

The diamonds are safe regardless, those aren't raided in attacks. As for the alliance thing, you can just make your own alliance for that mission and disband it, or join one and leave. However, the game is a lot more fun playing with people, and alliances offer help in growing faster.

There are also anti-social alliances out there where nobody really talks but you still can have some benefits of alliance technology and helps with speeding up research and such
