Dont think that you have to have heroes awakened.
Awakened is good or needed when you siege, because every 1% decides the lifes of your and your alliance squads.

But just doing the important skills on multiple good heroes is better for field than just 1 good awakened and rest bad heroes.
Since for towers someone else is lead anyway.

Going by the piece stats and just rolling 2 decent stats on a single piece of gear outweighs the skin. But here is difference, this is infantry skins, so if you use 2 squads you would need 2 pieces to match the buff. Thing is this can be done at 1/5th the cost. Skin versus armanent just isn't there. Where that skin comes to life is for people maxed gear parts. Remember, skins in theory can't be obtained later, while parts can. If you plan to max out, then skins are long term investment. Crap side is armanent rolls can over power this skin with 1 good land, say 6% infantry attack. I was landing great rolls in beginning, but last 1800 didn't land me squat, 3 average orange lands.

They are using an algorithm for these rolls, I landed orange, red rolls, very nice, times 6 in first 500 rolls, but more I did, it went down to 1/10 even landing orange stuff. Rates went to hell after 500 or so hones. Last premium hones didn't even land 1 red stat with last 160.

There's multiple tricks, that is one and should actually be started earlier. The problem with this particular games TC is there's 2 training days which makes the massive training method a little less effective. My last game there was only 1 troop day so your method is a lot more viable

You start 52k Troops Training on Island with all training buffs combined, then you have more than enough time until next tc, you push it to 2 days left on first training day and then finish it on the 2nd, 156k total troops for less speed overall

When you use those during zombie event, you spend a lot of energy. If you then grind a lot, you will run out of energy at some point.

But if you just do the basic reward stuff, then you will never run out!

There are events where the reward from killing zombies has no limit. That means you can actually spend a lot of time grinding zombies and get higher rank than others who only pay a lot.
