#Anyone know if flash-based games can be played in Chrome & earn badges?

I play web browser games in Chrome. Since coming back to Kongregate a couple years ago I've been playing some games using Supernova and some games using Ruffle. Something I've noticed consistantly is that I am able to earn badge progress on any game that automatically plays within the Kongregate website window (I assume those are all Ruffle), but I am never able able to earn badge progress on any game that opens via supernova (in its own small game window outside of the browser).
I've been conversing with someone lately in the Supernova Support Thread, and they informed me that games which open via Supernova are Flash-based games, whereas the other ones are HTML5 games.

So how can I open & play Flash-based games using something other than Supernova that will allow me to earn Kong badge progress? I just did a test where I opened an old game, More Bloons, which is Flash-based, and which I definitely hadn't touched since before 2020. When I opened it, a pop-up appeared asking if I wanted to open the game in SuperNova. I clicked "cancel" then click the "Ruffle" button at the top of the game window, and the game opened in the browser window like Ruffle/HTML5 games do. I already had 5 levels credited from many years ago towards the 2nd badge ["complete all 50 levels with or without unlimited darts"]. I played until I had beat 7 or 8 levels then went back to the main menu, but the badge progress did not update. I closed the page, opened & closed some other stuff, then while typing this post I opened the game again... I still don't have credit for any of the levels beyond 5 that I just beat today. Ergo, the method I tried of opening a Flash game with Ruffle does NOT work.
What else can I try?

PS I am playing on a Windows 10 PC, and I have the Tampermonkey extension installed in Chrome along with a script that someone (I think in this discord) gave me to copy/paste into it to make SuperNova work.

Ruffle is a Flash player emulator. The games that you are playing in Ruffle ARE Flash games. As I told you in the other thread, Ruffle is not ready to award badges yet.

#

The only way to earn badges in Flash games naturally instead of reporting them is using a browser supporting Flash, a working version of Flash and the user script (of mine) you are using (the one that allows you to switch between superNova and Ruffle - without it, you would only play them through Ruffle).

oh.

#

so... you're saying... Chrome does not currently support ANY method of earning badges on flash games?

#

at all?

Without reporting them, no. Unless you use an outdated version.

ok, i've decided i'll try downloading that other browser you suggested along with the extension, so I can hopefully earn badge progress again. But I need to know, can I transfer my saves from chrome over to it so that I can contine where I left off with games that I've been playing over the past couple years? I don't want to start over from scratch with them in order to earn badges, but if I have to for some of them, well them's the breaks I guess.

For the games that you have been playing with Ruffle, it is technically possible... but this would be tedious, as you would have to manually move each save file. For games that you have been playing with superNova, however, you should have automatically access to your existing save files.

I do not remember if I gave you all the steps, so here they are:

  1. Install Pale Moon: https://www.palemoon.org
  1. Install Greasemonkey for Pale Moon, by opening the following URL in Pale Moon: https://github.com/janekptacijarabaci/greasemonkey/releases/download/3.31.4Fork/greasemonkey-3.31.4-pm_forkBranch.xpi
  2. Install my user script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/438325-kongregate-flash-games-fixer

Things are the wrong size & overlap each other, and there's no way for me to find & click on a "sign in" button.

#

Also none of the many game buttons on the lower half of the screen are clickable.

#

oh wait i found a way to try to sign in. just a sec...

#

ok im logged in, but i still literally cannot click on anything to open any games except the ones in the huge rotating bar in the top half of the screen. I cannot click on any of the buttons on top such as "achievements" or "my kong". The cursor does change to show that's over something clickable if I put it just below one of those, but clicking there just ends up opening an ad page.

Unfortunately, the site is broken in some browsers. They did a "redesign" that nobody asked for and broke many things. This is not pleasant, I know, but one thing you can do is searching for games in a search engines or in another browser, then load it in Pale Moon.

If you're wanting to still use Ruffle on a modern browser, I've made a script that applies some API modifications to allow badge / stat updates for AS3 games. Haven't had much chance to test it but should behave.

Unfortunately won't work for AS2 games yet
