Cards should have a seperate evolution gem slot

I will however admit to mainly saying this because I want to evolve Knife into Thousand Edge, then stack double damage on it.

adding extra gem slots is a feature the full game will have

The Blacksmith is gonna unlock the ability to grant more gem slots to Weapons in the full game, as seen in the trailers, it's just not available in the demo.
