I have been an avid FM fan for years. Struggling to find motivation this year after playing as a top team and the game being too easy.

So I'm going to set myself a challenge, a journey-man save. Where I start with zero coaching badges, unemployed and try to find whatever lower league club will take me and work my way one job at a time to the top.

I will post my progress here for anyone that wants to follow.

#

Europe it is, here we go!

#

I'm applying for the worst job available, lowest league, lowerest predicted finish

South shields it is!

I once read a blog of a guy who played FM19 and set himself a challenge of only being able to by players with the name Steven/Stephen or any combination of Steve etc.

And how did he do?

This wasn't the one I read, can't find that one but it was maybe 5yrs ago or more

As a reductio ad absurdum of a way to make FM more challenging, I joked about limiting transfers to players named Steve. Started thinking that could actually be fun. So here we go, I created the club Steve F.C., based in Stevenage, England (of course), playing the Vanarama National South (re plac...

Off to a great start, goals are starting to fly in as the team get used to gegenpressing in semi professional football. Injuries are a concern but i havent tweaked training yet. Club has agreed to fund my National A coaching badge so that should give me more options for my next club at the end of the season.

Coaching badges are how I increase my rep and stat caps, club gets a better manager but it's a long time before those move up

Oh
So not really realistic

i played gegenpress and found my players burn out real quick. i do like the tiki taka style though

If you start with no badges your manager starting stats are basically zero. As I work through my badges I won't have my stats capped. It's not an issue as it can take a full season to raise a single stat like player handling or motivating. It's more if you want to start as a big team manager you pick continental pro badge and you get enough skill points to allocate to yourself that matches what your coaches and assistant manager has

4-2-3-1, such a classic and deadly formation

marble heath

left foot on the right and right footer on the left, I usually have more instructions but lower leagues its a bit messy.

First Month report card, going in the right direction

Depends on number of strikers or forwards, 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 are also common

No limit to lenght of career on PC (30 season limit on console)

marble heath

Yes essentially, but you can retire when you reach a decent age and create a new manager within the game you have simed so I could be a new manager again in 2053 in the same "world"

smoky needle
#

or would someone play it?

marble heath
#

You can make your own and tweak others but it will always force the name in to a traditional x-x-x-x or x-x-x even if you push your full backs up to attack the formation name will list them in the defence number, lowest you can have at the back is 3 most is 5. So its always 3-x-x-x, 4-x-x-x, 5-x-x-x

I never cared about football so no idea if there even is s strategy that has more palyers at the back

marble heath
#

It depends how you want to play, if i got back to back promotions with a team i would need a tactic that can keep the game tight, prevent theopposition (which would be way better quality than me) from scoring, soak up the pressure and hope to sneak a goal or two on the counter attack.

No, you have a board and they decide on your request for improved facilities, budgets, number of staff allowed etc. You'll sometime get taken over by rich owners too and have an injection of that sweet sweet oil money. But no politicians
