I have classified the holobytes by categories:

  • The higher tier holobytes centered around crit invalidate all others
  • Crit interactions are too strong. Full crit build with Blitz blade makes you invincible
  • There is no incentive to build anything else as it is not impactful
  • White holobytes become irrelevant
  • World material holobytes are very situational, become irrelevant against strongest builds
  • Charge attack holobytes also become irrelevant against strongest builds
  • Parry, stagger, execute, amp, stamina holobytes also become irrelevant against strongest builds and aren’t significant enough that they justify a holobyte slot is sacrificed
  • Dash holobytes feel more like a luxury and become irrelevant once you have the strongest builds
  • Kill holobytes they are quickly overshadowed by the strongest builds

How I feel about holobytes:

  • Holobytes need to be overhauled which is absolutely normal for EA games
  • There is currently lack of use/interaction for many of them as they are overshadowed by the rest
  • If damage all over the board was nerfed it would be interesting to be able to upgrade holobytes to a new tier which would keep all the interactions the developers originally thought of but on an equal footing.
  • Holobytes are odd in the sense that it is mostly their color tier will dictate their value
  • If you take away that notion, make all holobyte useful equally but just better through an upgrading system the useful build variety will expand
  • Usually in other roguelites boons/gifts can have a tier, but they come in all those tiers not just one or are more something of equal value that you have to decide whether to exchange and have to give up something for
  • Maybe No holobyte tier could be an option too and the sycom could be upgraded through the run just throwing ideas

If we introduced tiers to holobytes we could scrap holobytes into a holomaterial also to upgrade them which would be neat

Hey,
While i mostly agree with what you said, i also don't.

Obviously white holos are trash tier.
And obviously some holos are place holders till you find some better ones.
But i believe you can find a use for most of the blue and orange ones.
I never use the dmg purple one (Dmg increase with rarity of holos) kinda boring, or the Orange 5% crit chance.
I like the AMP charge/the heavies are fun too/Blue Pary/Blue invinsibility ..
Limite yourself, find some synergies. Most holos are fun and you don't need to have the most OP/META build to progress and win any cycles.

I also strongly believe than what mostly influence what holos you might want to run are firstly the breaker, and then the weapons you're using and their affixes. Doing that allows you to make anything works pretty fine.

What i like to do is fix a limit of 10 for my total holos, with each color having a different cost.
Purple cost 3 / Orange 2 / Blue 1 / And trash tier 0 (free).

Now then associate them wisely as you have 5 holos spot.
2 purple, 1 orange and 2 blue is what like to run.
3x2 + 2 + 1x2 = 10

You want to use 3 purple ?
That's 9/10 cost already .. you can't use an orange witch cost 2 but you can use a blue (1) and a white (0).

Having them slot in with a cost associated would be really interesting. Would put an good twist on builds especially when you get that killer holobyte that causes you to have to choose on what to unequip.

Well it's just something i like to do for myself and i won't ask for it because it might take away some people freedom to do OP build or any build they wish !
But i like the idea yeah.

Yeeee either way it's a fun concept! I always sort of like some mechanics like that. Gets the player to think a little bit about how they want to setup their run. Especially if we get to the point where we can vault some of the Holobytes I feel a system like that will really shine. That way players don't have to take up too much time deciding out in the field especially if the pressure is on.

# teal plank Hey, While i mostly agree with what you said, i also don't. Obviously white ho...

It's just the way some holobytes are over tuned make the others obsolete.
Of course you can limit yourself and pick just white holos but then it's poorly balanced atm and not fun.
That idea is interesting. It would be a way to balance for sure. But it kind of limits the fun. It would limit the interactions between holobytes you could equip just to have one stat stick purple holo.
I would rather all holobytes are tunned down and are available in white tier. You can upgrade them through tiers with bright blood/or a holomaterial acquired through disassembling the holobytes in the overgrowth. Higher tiers would still drop. Right now you find a holobyte you don't like you just leave it in the overgrowth it's kind of useless?
There's also very little incentive to change the build because you have clear hyperstrong/everything else is meh builds. If everything was toned down it would be harder to choose between holos there would be more nuances to the gameplay.
