#Puppeteer passive forcefully despawning struck entities (with sufficient Melee Speed %)

100% tied to the passive:
Enemies sometimes despawn on contact (?). Tested with Fargo's Super Dummies, see the randomly missing dummies after attacking (images attached).
This behavior is rare and took many attempts. I have noted it happening to various random enemies as well (lihzahrds, skeletons, tortoises, etc.), so it seems to not care for type of enemy.

Other occurrences I believe are tied to the passive:
3 times out of 3 attempts, WoF despawned at low HP in his domain, using Bee Hive yoyo.
1 time out of 2 attempts, (potentially) crashed the game during the Plantera fight (image attached).

Ha, now that infinite yoyos work people actually try it.
But if no one else does it before me, i will check it out later.

The puppeteer passive singlehandedly made me switch from a typical melee build into now full yoyo build lol. It's a really sick mechanic that sounds goofy, but has a lot of utility and is fun to use.

#

the randomly despawning enemies on hit thing is annoying at times, but is negligible in the grand scheme of things

#

aside from it making me redo the WoF fight 3 times LMFAO

#

I used Terrarian and the Hive-Five and cant really replicate it

whole sorrel
#

it deleted the vanilla target dummy entity xdd

whole sorrel
#

so i'm not surprised its hard to replicate (a line of target dummies, like in the above screenshots, was the easiest for me. still took a bunch of tries tho)

sturdy zodiac
#

i stood there for 2 minutes with a terrarian xD

#

on 10 dummies

whole sorrel
#

just got it again

sturdy zodiac
#

is the one that disappeared the one with the mods?

whole sorrel
#

????? despawned ALL of them, seemingly in order as I retracted the yoyo?

whole sorrel
#

YEP

#

the yoyo retraction fucks with it

sturdy zodiac
#

retraction? hmm

whole sorrel
#

like

#

letting go of the yoyo

#

releasing m1

whole sorrel
#

NOPE LMFAO

#

okay this is goofy af

#

will send a clip in a moment

sturdy zodiac
#

how do you poison with your Yoyo?

whole sorrel
#

flask ^^

sturdy zodiac
#

doesnt seem to be poison or bleed related since it doesnt happen for me with it

whole sorrel
#

interestingly enough

#

its not happening with a wooden yoyo

#

gonna test all of mine

sturdy zodiac
#

what tree nodes do you have?

whole sorrel
#

will minimize and try to replicate

#

full minimized

#

happening with the yoyos on the right 100% of the time
left do not cause the issue (or more likely, it just isnt consistent)

sturdy zodiac
#

Anything that the tmodloader window says?

whole sorrel
#

okay i think its a Melee speed thing

#

taking off strength / damage pieces of my set didnt stop it

#

but taking off EITHER my Titanium Mask or Fire Gauntlet would fix it

#

breaking

#

not breaking

#

OHHHH

sturdy zodiac
#

uhh...i just replicated it since you mentioned Fire Gauntlet

whole sorrel
#

thats why i got it working during the WoF fight probably

#

since this could have pushed me over the limit

#

i most commonly saw this happen when i was mass-farming enemies

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

Terrarian does it aswell now

#

what the heck could cause the Yoyos on letting go to delete entities xD

#

But only if you have enough attackspeed

whole sorrel
#

Puppeteer passive forcefully despawning struck entities (with sufficient Melee Speed %)

whole sorrel
#

figured you might get a laugh out of it lol

tribal belfry
#

thats so odd

#

tf

#

your yoyo breaks space time continuum and deletes entities

sturdy zodiac
#

its the Rage node + Puppeteer

#

even with the same attackspeed without Rage node it doesnt happen

tribal belfry
#

oh odd

#

I see

whole sorrel
#

it just might make it easier to execute in earlier game situations?

sturdy zodiac
#

weird

#

i cant do it without it

whole sorrel
#

need more attack speed then yea?

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

I am wearing the solar set

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

hmm

whole sorrel
#

definitely odd though

#

because i feel like it isnt JUST about melee speed %

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

Puppeteer is programmed to hit the targets an additional time but it does not have a cooldown of any way.
I wonder if it makes an infinite damage event and just deletes the NPC for some reason

whole sorrel
#

OH

#

OH I SEE NOW

#

high enough melee speed % makes some yoyos "retract" on release INSTANTLY

#

any yoyo that can retract instantly is causing this effect

#

OHHHH

#

and you know what?

#

i bet there are other ways to force the yoyo to retract instantly, aside from melee speed %

#

...which would explain why it can happen in other situations

sturdy zodiac
#

Running out of hits for limited duration yoyos technically retracts it instantly

whole sorrel
#

got it to despawn with the Hive-Five with more melee speed

#

so yea, the yoyo retracting instantly IS tied to melee speed

#

and in turn, the forced despawns is tied to the instantaneous retraction from the yoyos

sturdy zodiac
#

but why would that cause instant deletion is the question xD

whole sorrel
#

like how it lets you drag enemies around right?

#

if the yoyo is moving "infinitely fast" or being teleported REALLY far away, it probably has adverse affects on the entities tied to that yoyo

sturdy zodiac
#

weird part is the yoyo position matters

whole sorrel
#

i imagine that the puppeteer movement force applied to the enemy is tied to the distance between the enemy and the yoyo

sturdy zodiac
#

removing the movement does indeed not make it happen for me anymore
but now the string draws point to the very right corner

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

and is it still bottom right if you go to the left of the mob?

whole sorrel
sturdy zodiac
#

i removed the knockback resistance and removed the offset code
cough

#

but that did not fix it

whole sorrel
#

yea would not be surprised if this was why my Plantera fight crashed LMFAO

#

im out of maps to test it though xdd

sturdy zodiac
#

Time to reduce your attackspeed

soft vale
#

can't replicate this

#

just gonna add a NaN check and a distance cap and hope that's enough
