Hi, this is a revised version of my original feedback. Since the game is a reboot, some story‑lore elements are now fixed and have been removed from this list.
- Animations, movement, and controls (for both Twinsen and NPCs) feel awkward, jerky, and unreliable, and lack the smoothness of the original games.
- Collision effects are so poorly implemented that objects and characters frequently clip through each other.
- Movement lacks true 360‑degree freedom, and Twinsen often stops abruptly. Combined with the art style, navigating the world feels unintuitive.
- Characters look overly cartoonish and stylised; the originals had a sense of mystery, weight, and ambiguity that is now missing.
- The atmosphere feels less engaging: everything appears too clear, open, and flat.
- The art style and graphics feel generic and standardised, seemingly designed to appeal to a broader audience, whereas the originals were unique and visually “punchy.”
- The cartoon‑like approach could work if it weren’t pushed so far. Beyond personal taste, it affects visual clarity and ambience; depth perception and image readability are sometimes confusing.
- The heavy simplification of mechanics and the removal of behaviour modes reduce depth and diminish the sense of realism.
- The soundtrack feels over‑orchestrated, especially considering how strong the original music already is.
- There is a constant stutter‑like effect, especially outdoors, affecting transitions between gameplay and dialogue, stairs, and general movement—both running and walking. This seems tied to the engine or optimisation.
- Twinsen himself feels like a modern, generic youngster with little personality or impact. His new clothing design is also less appealing than the original; not everything benefits from being “modernised.”
- Please avoid altering the essence of the originals with unnecessary political correctness or forced inclusivity.
- And finally… what’s with those red boots?
I know, but you asked for it : D
