Is there any "elimination" element when attacking an island?

Like, if i lose to a powerful deck, they remain in the "pool"... but if I lose to a weak deck they're "knocked out" for me (and/or teammates)?

Or is it just all random for everyone?

Just random. It's possible to get the same opponent all 10 attacks.
