So I was asking for advice about what ship to take from the promotional lockbox and was told to post my build. It's really not much as I don't have much yet. It's mostly items I've looted or gotten from mission rewards. Any advice would be great. As well as suggestions for what to take from my promotional box. Also, if any of the ships are good for their trait/console that would be helpful too.

Right, way I see it, there are 2 3 approaches you can take with your promobox ship decision:
- Pick whichever looks coolest to you and you actually want to fly in. It will be an automatic upgrade to the ship you're flying right now by virtue of it being a T6 Fleet-grade ship.
- Pick a T6 promobox ship containing a ship trait/console/other goodies that will advance your build progression. You will be getting a better ship than what you have now, but depending on your tastes, one that you may not like to fly in.
- Sell your promobox ship choice to a willing buyer, use funds to buy an Infinity Lockbox or T6 C-store ship or some other ship that can be acquired via EC.
Option 1 we cannot help you with, as that is subjective and up to personal taste.
Option 2, we can give some recommendations. But the issue with promobox ships for build progression is that they are extremely build dependent. Even the ship traits that may be considered "universally useful for all DPS build types" like Eclectic or Ruin still requires your current build to be advanced enough to be worth a ship trait slot.
Based on what you've shown here, you are not yet at this stage. But you could opt to future proof your ship choice, if you intend to chase DPS one fine day.
Option 3, there is #trade-offers.
On a different topic not related to promobox ship choices, while your posted build is missing some info, what you've shown so far indicates that you could do with some more fundamental ship building knowledge.

If I picked from a purely aesthetic view, I think it would end up being the Valkis. That is such a cool looking warbird, and it would fit my romulan character very well. I also like the shrike, I thought it was a cool looking ship in Picard and it looks interesting in game as well. Next would be basically any of the classic ships. I even like the discovery versions of the connie and D7, as well as the crossfield. (I'm probably unique in that I didn't hate Discovery as a show :P)
If it matters, the 2 powerful ship traits I mentioned here come from the Shrike and D7 Carrier respectively.
Is the discovery d7 the carrier?

Release date: June 20, 2019The D7-class Miracle Worker Flight Deck Carrier is a Tier 6 Flight Deck Carrier that may be flown by Klingon Defense Force characters, including Klingon Empire-aligned Romulan Republic and Dominion characters. Are traits locked with the character as well?
And this is an important PSA regarding its ship trait, Ruin of Our Enemies: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/iz0xq0/buyer_beware_the_ruin_of_our_enemies/
Yes, they are locked to the character that owned and unlocked the ship trait.
This game kind of hates alts in that way doesn't it?
This is the case for all character-bound ships.
I'm gonna give that video a watch too, it could definitely help me choose.
So I learned a ton in that video, I just have one question, where do carriers fall in the type of build? Do you build differently for your hangar ships, or do you still just focus on your ship and it's build and have the hangar ships just add to that?
Ok, so kind of 2 questions, but two questions that are basically the same.
Both is possible.
You can focus on your own damage and just run pets t the side (either for a bit of free extra damage or type 7s for debuff).
Or you can focus on pets as a damage source and build around that.
Or a hybrid of both ofc.
If you focus on the ship's damage, the type of builds you can effectively do will depend on the ship, esp its seating. An Ark Royal supports different build styles than a Ghemor for example. (The Valkis is a bit of a jack of all trades in that regard tho)
Expanding on this, below is a link to familiarize yourself with the various end-game ship build archetypes currently available, and also learn to recognize what ships are better suited to which specific build types: https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/1e2xer8/comment/ld5ihug/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Oh, thank you!
Now does character class play any kind of huge part in what builds you would want to focus on? I've heard that any class can basically fly any ship, but that doesn't necessarily mean any build.
Your captain career does not dictate what ship types you can effectively fly in, nor does it limit your ship build archetype options.
So right now I'm kind of leaning towards the Valkis and doing a hybrid carrier/dew build, either beams or cannons, since it doesn't have the correct seating for the specialist fire modes.
Sounds good.
And just as a trivia, the Valkis (and its KDF/FED equivalents) are one of very few ships in this game right now that can basically accommodate every single end-game build archetype. It's a very flexible platform, as Krass said.
Sounds like a good choice then, in case I feel like switching it up.
So now I just need to learn about the 8 million different traits and consoles that would be good.
Well, one thing at a time. With the solid fundamentals you now have, slowly building up from there won't be too difficult.
Definitely focus on the fundamentals first. Boff cooldown reduction, consistent weaponry, consoles that fit the weapons.
I'm leaning towards beams looking more at the valkis, that 5 turn and 20 inertia do not make for a fast turning ship.
Can be overcome with Competitive Rep Prevailing Engines, Evasive Maneuvers, Emergency Conn Hologram DOFF, Emergency Power to Engines and Deuterium Surplus.
All of above things are desirable for all basic DEW builds.
Oh, I had a question, what is the phoenix store?
But yes, you can start with beams first and transition to cannons later when you have all of above.
