#Shangri La torpedo boat

I have no idea how to do torpedoes, but I want to make an attempt at it with the Shangri La. I did 700k in ISE with what I think was a slightly worse version of this, but I was kind of carried by my uni consoles. I hope someone can give me some advice on how to improve this build? 🙂

I want to be able to use this build in elites, primarily ISE. I know that 700k is more than enough for that, but I want the focus of the build to be on the torpedoes rather than the damage clickies. That’s not to say that I have a particular need to reign in the consoles.

I do not have Ceaseless Momentum or Subspatial Warheads. While I can afford them, I would prefer to use the resources at hand to see how I like the style of play. Unless those are absolutely essential. What I do have is 2 years of event ships, a lot of c-store ships, and maybe some spare T6 coupons. I also have Cultural Conquest, if that’s relevant here.

  • For my rear weapons, I wonder if mines are still the go-to there, and whether I am right to use the Pahvan Omni on a torp build? Have I got the right mines?
  • For my fore weapons, I think I might slot the Delphic DBB over the Maelstrom to reduce the micromanaging a little, is that a decent choice?
#
  • Is EPtA worth slotting at all? I was at a loss, but figured if might help with the console.
  • I just realized that I can use mine pattern beta 2 here if I rearrange my tac boffs a little.
  • Should I have HY3, or am I covered by CF3?
#

For the consoles,

  • Should I use more locators?
  • Have I gone overboard with the shield disable clickies? Or slotted something suboptimal?
  • Have I missed any obvious inclusions?

-> EPTA is useful for feeding Membrane. not a priority in case you have something you prefer to slot (like perhaps RSP to add some survivability for RTFOs), but it's probably better filler than Warp Bubble
-> DPB2 is nice, but have an eye on how many entities are on the map, higher mine patterns can quickly cause despawn (which is the reason why you hardly ever see dpb3 on torpers)
-> HY3 would be a good addition to CF3, but i'm not sure the seating really has room for it - as it would effectively mean sacrificing DPB, CSV, or CG - maybe worth a test but i don't think it would be worth it

the consoles seem fine. could experiment with replacing DPRM depending on how often you need it as a survival clickie.
the shield disable consoles you have on are all worth running, but you could probably drop Carrier Wave Shield Hacking, your clickie cd should be fast enough to always have a shield disable available when the previous disable ends. (my suggestion would be to replace it and see whether it causes any issues)

Ok, thanks for the tips 🙂 I think you are right about the DPRM in theory, but I’m really struggling with the piloting at the moment. I’m going to keep it on as oh shit button for now. If I get a little less frantic with the flying, I’ll try to replace it. Would you replace it with just another locator?

#

Or maybe replace the DPRM with RSP in survival terms, and then slot an offensive console?

#

My first thought for replacing Carrier Wave is Ship of the Line, but I also have Angle on the Bow. Or Cultural Conquest I guess, though I don’t have any idea if it procs off the granted modes from CF and ETM?

Ok, ETM should be easy enough to test with CC. I can do that 🙂

keen wing
#

Yeah, the ETM gifted spread is not stacking CC.

#

I will put on Ship of the Line. I assume then that Ceaseless and Subspatial are the next steps forward for ship traits?

#

Since I am not using Ceaseless at the moment, do I have enough PWOs reducing cooldowns, or should I slot a third?

indigo folio
#

Afaik, ceaseless isn't rly used much any more.
Subspatial definitely is a pretty big deal

#

How well your torp cd works will be situational. But overall i'd say two PWO and CF3 should suffice

keen wing
#

Oh wow, that's interesting! Well, in that case I will leave the doffs as is, and then consider grabbing the Subspatial eventually.

#

I ended up removing the maelstrom (for now?) to reduce the piloting complexity.

#

I don't think I would have remembered to fire it much, and I also don't have TS3 for it.

#

Before I go upgrade my mines, are they a decent pick? Or should I grab something like the Black Ops mine instead?

# keen wing Before I go upgrade my mines, are they a decent pick? Or should I grab something...

that's outside my field of expertise tbh. as far as i recall, black ops mines had some exceptional interaction with Resonating Payload Modification, idk how good they are without that.
and iirc the comp rep mines were considered good, especially for shorter runs like ISE where most of your mines are laid during prep (so the comp mines have the opportunity to charge up before detonating)

Alright, I’ll do a little more research on rear weaponry before committing to the two I already have.

#

I do have a kelvin torpedo in a fleet bank somewhere, so I’ll keep it in mind if I find myself in need of a 5th 🙂

While I am glad that my first attempt at a build was somewhat sensible, I think the biggest challenge for me will be the piloting. I found a guide by RangerRenze in the #torp-discussion pins which I will try to master 🙂

#

Thanks again for looking over the build, Krassl 🙂

I haven't had much time to play with this lately, but I thin I am slowly getting a little more comfortable with the whole torpedo thing. I also found a relatively cheap Subspatial, so I added that trait in place of Thirst.

OK, thanks for all that input, lots of interesting ideas here 🙂

  • I dropped the Maelstrom because it's just a dead slot until I get torp micro figured out. I do plan to add it back when I feel like it could do well.
  • Could certainly put a few more locators on here, though I am a little unsure if I can get through ISE without the DPRM (most likely candidate, alongside AES and one of my shield disablers?) at the moment.
  • Very interesting reading on the BIC. I do have it, so I could easily slot one.
  • The Eleos console is still a great UD stack maintainer, do you have any thoughts about how it stacks up vs the Immolance. I have both. While I wasn't using it to maintain UD, I might have to without CG.
  • How important is the HY3 when I have CF3 already? At face value it seems a massive penalty to my uncons
  • I do have the comp mines, can have a look at running those 🙂
#

How does Chronophage compare vs. the Shangri La console [Universal - Console - Sequential Warhead Loader]? If I were to drop one of these for more locators, I would prefer to keep the SWL for theme reasons.

#

All in all I guess a coupel of passive consoles might actually help me with the micro 😛

#

If I do remove EPtA, I would have to drop Ship of the Line. I guess I should just put back Thirst for Battle which I was using before?

#

Also keep in mind that with Vovin console and uncon, AES can have really good uptime. But I don't know if it's more worth than a locator here?

keen wing

Note that Thirst here doesn't actually have a lockout period.
