Its not important to play WITH them (other players) in a private locked server-world, but having them around, at the open sea and in the marinas will raise the experience very much. Its cozy. We all just do our thing, and can meet eachother, pass each other in the correct way and HONK to say "Hi". 😅

I agree, an open sever would be good for all the reasons you suggest!

I've been thinking of the exact same thing

it's a fun game but gets lonely alone because none of my friends even remotely like ships

Yes! The problem about "skipping time" should be "You dont need". So you can just pick up the boyes right after (as we does anyway)

It would be awesome if many people could play on one server. Plus if the radio would work so we could talk with other ships.

make ships blow up if another one rams into it too much if this is added

# astral lantern But I agree, performance could become an issue tho

Performance could be an issue but other games have done similar things.
Like Stormworks with 32 players on one server or Hell let Loose with 100 players on one server.

I would think SAS won't have a as intricate physics system like Stormworks where gasses are simulated nor does it need 100 players at once(but it would be cool).

I think the best system would be to allow as many players as the server owner trusts his server to handle on one dedicated server(maybe cap it to 256). SAS doesn't need to guarantee that 100 players work but it could if good enough hardware is used. This uncapped nature would give lots of freedom but it can still be limited to 4 players if the server owner configures the server like it.
