The only thing I wanna say about this guy is that even if it's a card with no effect, in first contact this card should scare you. Altho I fear this might get power crept very quickly

Ah, the iconic Gorillion! Awesome in its simplicity. The only card in any of the packs that has no keywords and no ability, because it doesn't need them! And the only card in the game that is 10 power out of the gate with no conditions (Lone Yeti) or drawbacks (Cursed Gorillion, Cave Lizard).

Power-wise, the only card in First Contact that can contest Gorillion by itself is Lone Yeti. Aside from that, Shield Bugs and/or Urchin Hurler may help some cards get to 10 or above. But without those in play, Gorillion will be the highest-powered creature in play.

Gorillion is at its strongest when the opponent doesn't have a Poisonous creature in play, as it would be free to attack. However, even if it can't attack (because of Poisonous, an Explosive Toad, etc.), it's still incredibly powerful as a wall. Not much can get by it, and it's a card your opponent may need to prioritize if they want to stand a chance.

My POV :

If enemy has it : I find it generally pretty weak and will MB it very rarely ; there is almost always a way to deal with it in your hand without using too many resources ; the fact that he is not Tough means you just need a single poison / effect to deal with it ; the fact that he doesn't have Frenzy means you have all the time in the world to set up a counter

If i have it : i generally play him early to bait MB / force ressources OR late game if i feel my enemy has use too many resources

New players think this is the best card ever because mostly power matters to them, pretty cool card, a nice way to deal with annoying cards like snail hydra

I'm not sure I've seen any power creep in this game. From the sets we've seen (Evolution and Eternity), all the cards seems to be balanced within each set and within Mindbug as a whole.

For the example of a card like Gorillion, I still don't think it's been outclassed. In the add-on pack, Bugzerker can get to 11 power and is Tough, but you need to have only 1 life point. In Eternity, Cave Lizard is 10 power and Tough and Sneaky, but can't attack, and Cursed Gorillion is 10 power and Tough and Frenzy but has a massive drawback once it is defeated. And in Evolution, the only card that can get to 10 power has to evolve twice to get there.

So I think it's awesome that Gorillion hasn't been outclassed, and could likely be tossed into the other 2 sets and still be a threat.

Speaking of, @thorny pelican when you are making cards for new sets, how much thought goes into balancing that card for the set it is in vs. balancing the card in respect to cards in other sets?

Most of the effort goes into balancing the card within each set woth each other but that might change in the future

#

We need to see how the players like to play

#

Each set as a seperate eco-system?

Mixing up all the cards?

Building custom sets?

I personally find this card underwhelming. Yes, it can win against any other card in direct combat. But with effects to defeat and take control, with so many poisonous creatures etc, there's very often a way to defeat it. However, I do take it seriously, but that's in general true for every high power creature. If I know I have an answer, I don't MB it... which is pretty much always. The worst part is that it doesn't often win you the game on its own credit since there are other ways such as Sneaky creatures and Killer Bee to squeeze in a win. But in the late game with limited options, a high power is a high power. The opponent might be out of options and this can win you the game!

Depending on how the majority like to play, we might move our focus

#

We try to make cards that are not strictly better versions of other cards

I don't expect all the cards to be balanced in years to come. But maybe ill be wrong about that, we'll see. Even if it's not I think everyone will find a way to enjoy this game.

I do think Gorillion is on the weaker side of cards, though I have seen it win plenty of games

I went into this game expecting mtg but simpler. Got something way different that scratches the itch for a card game so well it's really impressive.

Thanks for the answer @thorny pelican!

And ya'll are convincing me that Gorillion isn't as great as I think it is lol. I think it comes from a handful of games where I had no answer to it (hand full of Rhino Turtles and Luchataurs) and so I've learned to respect it haha.

But yeah it definitely has a lot of counters and ways to deal with it.

Thanks @median drum I do think it is quite different from mtg even though that is what people always compare us to 🙂

#

It's nowhere close imo. It's way thinkier, there's no autoplay. I'm so sad i found out about this game after beyond and eternity kickstarter ended

#

Too late to back it 😦

#

Sorry 🙂 the retail version should be available in the future, hopefully the future campaigns will be able to offer whatever you are missing

#

Could also be the nerdlab store has some leftover stock of the kickstarter stuff

median drum
#

yeah, I only have first contact right now. Ill wait for the expansions to hit the nerdlab store and then ill pick up everything im missing at once

I feel that Gorillion is better than most of the big boys of the set, just because this is something people tend to not MB easily, although it is always a good defensive card, and sometimes also a good offensive unit. just being able to counter the hydra on its own makes it a really good card, that's always a card I love to see in my hand.

I like this one due to its simplicity as the one apex predator when looking only at the cards strenght. Str 10, enough said.

And I must say, the artwork is among my Top 3, especially since it fits perfectly to the feeling of the card. There must be one strongest creature in the game, so here it is: Clear and elegant, but swinging even brass knuckles to punch your (opponents) face.

I found it funny that I've had a couple of games recently, that went like: You mindbug my str 8? Fine, here's a str 9. You mindbug this as well? Well, than deal with the Gorillion 😄
