What happened to this game? I'm really frustrated by the broken builds of players taller than 7'. It's ridiculous when a tall player has high speed and absolute dominance in shots. Yesterday, I was playing at REC and Starting 5, and in every mode, there was a 7'4 player who just stood on the arc and shot. Our team was jumping in front of him, raising their arms, but he didn't seem to notice anyone, just shooting with a huge green zone. It's very sad. It's just ridiculous. 2k why did you have to unbalance the game like this. Oh 😭

Fix this game. This year is by far the worst 2k I ever played . The games defense needs to be buffed by alot. Shooting is too easy definitely needs to be nerfed nobody should be shooting over 65%-70% from the 3. The games speed is to fast last years was the perfect games speed. My biggest problem with the dunk meter this year isn't the window, it's the amount of times that I'm holding RT and down on the RS and not getting a meter dunk. When I was meter dunking in 25, I may have gotten taken out of a lot of dunks, but at least I got the dunk animation to start. Half the time when I try to meter dunk in 26, it gives me a weird layup animation instead

And it happens sometimes when I'm covered, sure, and you could argue that my player is doing something different to avoid the defense, but it also happens sometimes when I feel like I should have a wide open lane

There’s only 3 issues with NBA 2k26:

1. Tall builds and 7’4s specifically were given too high of a max shooting attribute. If the shortest build in the game (5’9) has a max 75 dunk, the tallest build in the game (7’4) should not have a 90 mid/89 3 allowing for legend shooting badges. It’s unbalanced.
2. Contests are broken. Firstly, it is widely available that basketball coaches at every level teach players to contest shots with their hand up and NOT by jumping, yet Mike Wang, who seemingly has no high level basketball experience is dead set on players having to jump to contest. ALSO height plays too much of a factor in contests. Not to say it shouldn’t have any impact, it should, it’s just currently factoring too much in 2ks contest code.
3. Steals. Canned steal animations weren’t great but now on-ball steals basically aren’t a thing at all. If you’re on the same side of the player that the ball is on with a high steal rating and you time the steal appropriately you should be rewarded much more often with a steal than what we currently are. This is allowing for tall players with low ball handle ratings to spam dribble without any threat of losing the ball.

There’s a secret 4th issue called Rhythm Shooting but too many people seem to love it because they can’t make shots without it. It’s too easy to rhythm shoot compared to actually timing a shot. Just as an example, my irl is terrible at shooting. Was shooting around 30% from 3 with X the first 2.5 weeks of the game. Changes to rhythm shooting and now he can’t miss. 3pt% up nearly 10% in 2 days. He used to pass up open shots because he knew he couldn’t shoot. Now he’s finishing games 3/3, 3/4. It’s entirely too easy compared to button shooting.

See that's where we disagree. The average player right now shoots between 60-70% from 3. That's far too high for the average player. In a balanced game, the average players would shoot between 35-45%. The absolute BEST players would shoot 55-65% from 3. But the problem is, when you have people shooting as well as they do from 3, the game just becomes about which team can take more 3s. All other forms of offense (slashing, creating in the midrange, post work, etc) become pointless, because why would you go through the effort to do that when you can just shoot 3s all game. That's the situation we're currently living in. 66.67%. That is the point at which, if you shot that percentage from 3, or any higher, it's not mathematically worth it to take 2 point shots (in any game where you don't get the ball back after making a shot, so ignore 1s and 2s). And WAY too many people are shooting close to, if not higher than that, right now.

The problem is this: in a game where, with a pure green window, the green window is small enough that the best players shoot 55-65% from 3, the casual players shoot like 30%. And the casual players don't like shooting 30% from 3. There were plenty of casual players who shot that last year, or similar, and blamed RNG all year for the fact that they were poor shooters. And don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for RNG back, I don't feel like that should be in the game. But I also don't want a game where the only shots worth taking are 3s. And the problem is, since the casual playerbase makes up a large majority of players, they have to keep them happy at least to some degree, but doing so sacrifices balance. It's a catch22 that they've got themselves in.

It is the easiest shooting 2k ever though & rhythm makes it even easier like any of my casual friends would attest to so you do have a point about 3 point shooting being the meta.

For what it's worth, someone shooting a higher percentage with rhythm doesn't mean that rhythm is stronger. It may be easier to learn, easier to understand for players, but if the green window size is the same size, then it can't be "broken". It's a preference thing at that point. There are still some players who've shot with button for so long that they shoot better with button. But Mike Wang has said that "if he had it his way, players would only shoot with rhythm, and that if he could, he would take button shooting out of the game, which would free up the X/Square button for another functionality if they wanted to use it"

The difference between 83 and 89, both for badges and ratings, is pretty sizeable, and when you consider that having the minimum wingspan doesn't hurt them as much this year (no need to worry about missing out on rebounds when every shot goes in anyways), and the fact that Boxout Beast is no longer tied to Strength, meaning they can go lower weight without losing out on it, all adds up to a lot of factors that make them stronger than they should be

That's the problem with the game though, and the reason that I don't like the cap breaker system. Someone who plays the game more will be DRASTICALLY better because they can just plan and make builds based around cap breakers that literally turn a build from good to great. In essence, if you don't play as much as everyone else, you can't keep up competitively. It's a very frustrating system that effectively punishes players who don't put hella time into the game

If it’s based on hand position, why does basically blocking the ball give an open - 14% contest. I’m 6’7 but if my hand is there should it matter if my opponent is 7’4? (gold challenger btw)

Everything is for a very specific reason on that build.
+4 driving dunk gets Gold Posterizer, and all the important dunks except Elite Contact dunks
+1 Post control gets you Bronze Post Fade Phenom, but more importantly, it gets you the Elite Post Go To Shot
+5 midrange obviously gives you every jumpshot you'd want, as well as Gold Shifty (can Max+1 or +2), Gold Deadyeye, and Legend Set Shot (will Max+1 to Legend)
+5 ball handle gives you ever dribble move in the game for 6'8s, as well as Silver Ankle Assassin. +2 Speed with Ball also unlocks the Zach Lavine dribble style and the Blur takeover ability
and +5 Perim D gets you to Gold Challenger, which should help with contesting shots, but also gets you Gold Pick Dodger and Gold On Ball Menace.

Looking at that build you posted above, there's a few things that I feel like it misses out on. The first being Block. Block is really important this year for actually getting contests. If you have low block, you probably won't get a ton of contests.

Secondly, you miss out on Silver Physical Finisher and the good layup animations. Even if you're not someone who plans on learning how and when to do each layup, and you'd rather just run at the rim and dunk it, having the higher layup helps for those times when you get knocked out of your dunk animation.

Third, in order to get Gold Posterizer, you'd have to cap break both Driving Dunk AND Vertical. Just something to keep in mind, as I feel like Gold Posterizer is a good break point for dunks, and it was last year.

The only other thing that I feel like you miss out on is Silver Rebound Chaser. Silver Rebound Chaser feels significantly better than Bronze, and I feel like on a 6'8, you may as well get it.

The one thing that that build gets that mine doesn't is the higher 3pt, specifically giving you Deep Bomber takeover. However, I like Blur better anyways, so I don't mind not having Deep Bomber

The real problem is, in the sport of basketball, good defense is about trying to get your opponent to take a bad shot. Except, right now, in 2K26, there's no such thing as a bad shot. 30ft shot from the 7'4 Center? good shot. Fading 3 in the corner? good shot. Contested midrange? they're all good shots because the contest system is so poor and the green windows are so large
