To facilitate for your teammates, to set up the plays, to keep the offense flowing and keep everyone satisfied. And part of that is passing. As the PG, I typically take between 8-15 shots in a game (I play Rec 99% of the time), but I also average 10+ assists because I'll call cuts or wraps for my teammates, I'll drive and kick, I'll look for mismatches, and I'll swing the ball to the open man. Like I said, scoring as the PG is important because you do need to show the defense that they're gonna have to send help and guard you. And if they aren't sending help, and my man can't guard me, I will 100% call my own number more often. But no one wants to watch the PG just dribble out the shot clock while they just stand there, and so I like to get people invovled so that they feel engaged and part of the team. Otherwise, they're more likely to be disengaged and not locked in on defense, or not be ready for the pass when I do have them wide open for a shot, or otherwise just throw the game out of frustration.

That's the biggest problem. Random rec feels bad at low plate levels when you play with people who belong down there, but then once you get up to high plate levels, it takes ages to get a game
