I think the biggest problem with Shai is the way he goes about getting the free throws. When people talk about Shai's FT numbers, people love to point out guys like Kobe, who would average a ton of FTs as well. But the difference is that Kobe was always trying to score. There will be times in a game where Shai feels the slightest amount of contact, and he'll just immediately toss the ball in the direction of the basket and flail to try to get a foul call. It's just ugly basketball, from a guy who, when he gets to his spots in the midrange and such, has one of the smoothest and prettiest games in the league. I wouldn't go as far as to say I dislike him, it's not his fault that the refs call it all the time. He's just taking advantage of the system. But I would appreciate his game more if he wasn't just trying to get a foul every time down the floor.
The other frustrating part of it all is the way that OKC gets reffed on the other end of the floor. Often they're allowed to play incredibly physical without getting a lot of fouls called against them, with guys like Lu Dort damn near huggging guys and not getting called for it. And then Shai comes down and gets these ticky-tack fouls.
