I genuinely need help I honestly don't know what I'm doing on this game, I can pull stuff sometimes but it's inconsistent. Dunno if its controller problem or just my misunderstanding of the game's mechanics.

I cannot for the life of me, defend properly without being blown by, or being danced to the point that I just can't commit to getting close or else I'll be blown by again.

I wanna improve, maybe if some of those willing can share on how they view the game or atleast what they did to get to the level they're on, I'll appreciate it. I watch youtube tutorials, practice them, and try to use it in a real match, but yeah tutorials can only take me so much as I mostly do not know what to do right after.

A lot of 2k is trial and error. You can’t rely too much on online sources or 2k content creators because they’re usually making builds with 20+ cap breakers or builds that only work for them. Trying looking up jumpshot recommendations and dribble animations, test em out in MyCareer and figure out what feels best. This year there feels like there’s a lot of freedom in what you can choose for animations, which greatly affect your character’s ability to perform

Defensively, you never wanna hold your hands up (right stick up) while playing perimeter defense unless you know for certain that the offensive player is going to shoot it. You want to treat the left trigger and right trigger like the brakes and gas. By default, don't hold anything, just try to stay in front of your man, if you see him trying to run past you, you wanna use LT to try to bump him and stop him from getting past you, and if he's got you beat, that's when you need to use RT. Sometimes as well, in that vide, you were playing him very high up when he never really showed he could shoot. Obviously, you wanna assume that everyone can shoot, but once he's gotten to the basket a couple of times, you can recognize that that's his main gameplan, and then maybe you play a little further off instead of trying to get bumpy with him at 32 feet out.

I agree 100% with the first half of this, but as far as animations, it really depends on what animation category. For example, I feel like there's a variety of hop jumpers and go-to shots you can use based on playstyle, but like, for bigs, the only good dribble animations are KD, Pro, or Giannis, with very few exceptions.

To a degree. Yes, you always have to be ready for your opponent to shoot, and recognize when to put your hands up, but if you're holding your hands up constantly, you move slower and you will get beat pretty easily

Yeah but it all depends on who you're facing. A good player will absolutely abuse you if your hands are up 24/7. I usually just try to do small flicks of the left stick (without L2/LT) and try to not get baited by moves that are clearly just going to combo into going the other direction (eg: most people never just do one escape move and then run past you)
