#Making new textures for Chipped

I am currently working on overhauling a lot of textures for Chipped. I originally started by giving Tuff a series of redesigns and recolors to match the 1.21 Tuff blocks.

The images attached are what i currently have. The cyan wool means I'm borrowing those textures from someone without credit, or they're placeholders, but i will completely swap them out once i finish and send it here (I'll limit doing that in the future, i made these before i realized people are interested in this lol)

Also, at the time of posting, I'm working on Prismarine and I'm ~30% done. I'll post more from that once i make more progress.

#

oh, and towards the left of the second image, are custom blocks. I had leftover ideas, and my friend, @drowsy slate , was nice enough to make these blocks a reality

Half of the custom blocks are inspired by the mod "Rechiseled", and I did them mostly because that mod doesn't support Tuff blocks period

#

Also, here's a few blocks you couldn't clearly see in that line up. Me and CarJem decided to put the tops of the official Tuff blocks on top of these.

#

and the tops of the pillars

novel talon
#

I made a checklist here for how Prismarine is going currently

Green means I'm finished and happy with the texture
Purple means I'm happy with how it looks, but it needs to be animated
Cyan means I finished, but you don't see it here currently
Blue means I'm considering redesigning the block, but you guys can suggest something else instead
Red means I will replace it at some point for sure (again, I will take suggestions)
White means I haven't looked at it yet (also labeled the pillars as this since they're WIP)

#

Also, I can provide better images of specific blocks if you guys want, i just put them all in one shot so there isn't much clutter here atm

#

And if you're wondering why the blocks continue to the left of the image, that's is a different block variant related project i was working on, i won't be checking those off or including them in progress updates until everything for base Chipped is done

novel talon
#

made the tiny bricks less shiny, and more closely resemble a plain prismarine brick

#

still made the top and left most pixels in each "brick" a couple shades brighter though, so it doesn't look flat

#

gonna be a slow day, texture wise, but wanted opinions on this, so i know if i'm on the right track for retexturing all the tiny bricks, because i wanna knock those out next, since they'll be more of a 1:1, like the tiles and bricks

#

made a few pixels in the top left of the bricks just a tiny bit brighter.

novel talon
#

here's what I got as a rough idea for what i want to do to the pillars, I'm unsure where to really start with refining these

#

one themed around a trident, one around a seashell, one around a guardian, and one is a plain, simple design

#

I settled on the center design, and want them to at least somewhat neatly connect, like i did with Tuff above

novel talon
#

ok, cleaned up the tiny brick design

#

based it off my small bricks design, which is based on a minecraft dungeons texture

#

a lot happier with how this looks in comparison to the one i made yesterday

novel talon
#

wanted something different for this one than just a near 1:1, kinda like what i did for Tuff

novel talon
#

all those tiny brick textures mixed together, plus the flat tiles

#

wanted the flat tiles to more closely match the shape of the tiny bricks, so you can mix and match them better

novel talon
#

for this one, i ended up just flipping the small brick texture

#

and that's because i want the brick sizes to be more consistent. It looks extremely similar anyways so

#

just turned this one into a palette swapped cobblestone texture

#

well, "palette swapped" there's one color there prismarine doesn't have, but you won't notice unless you compare them side by side lol

#

for tuff, this ended up just being it's own block

#

checklist update

#

tomorrow, I'll start chipping away at the connected textures

novel talon
#

the new offeset bricks mixed with the plain bricks

#

I opted to make the offset bricks visually like the plain brick, even though MC Dungeons actually uses this brick shape, just shaded much differently

novel talon
#

turned that darker center into the polished dark prismarine texture instead

novel talon
#

thinking about using the eroded prismarine texture for the center of this one

novel talon
#

wall of brick textures

#

i think the eroded stone on the tiny brick border and thick inlayed border was a good idea, i like how it pops

#

also, this texture is redundant now basically, I'm open for suggestions

novel talon
#

ended up making the border match inlayed prismarine

split pivot
#

Gorgeous. Oh, it's beautiful.

split pivot
# novel talon

Not sure what's up with the weird curvy teal highlight at the top of each tile, if I'm being honest it takes a lot away from the texture

novel talon
#

Yeah I'll fix that then

#

I just ripped that from the Polished Dark Prismarine texture, but CJ mentioned that as well

novel talon
#

I put this in the showcase channel, but saying it here also, as it pertains to the quality of this pack going forward

#

I got into contact with the user on Planet Minecraft named "Fungus"

#

He's the artist that made the Prismarine pillar I planned to use before I joined this server and decided this would be available to the public.

#

He has given me permission to use any of his textures, so long as I link to the original pack when I share mine.

So with that being said, I will use these going forward. They're very high quality, and they save me one texture for most block sets, and give me a good starting point for designing a theme around certain blocks.

#

For the record, a majority of the work here is still mine, his would make up 53 textures, if i decide to use them all.

novel talon
# novel talon

also this will be the new center for the polished Dark Prismarine block (I'll show an in game screenshot after i get some sleep)

novel talon
#

Also, this artist allowed me to use these textures, so long as I also credit them too. So that's a well made start for this set, and means I'll make that block set similar to my tuff set as well.

novel talon
#

based this one off of the conduit blocks in MC Dungeons

#

unfortunately, wanted to add more to make it look like the conduit, but it shares the common texture that looks like the single prismarine tile i made

novel talon
novel talon
#

going to overwrite this texture too

#

the new smooth cloumn and engraved block will be a good enough replacement for this set

#

and then the column will be this, but with a bare center

novel talon
#

since the smooth column borrows this texture, I figured i'd rework the base texture too. made it almost identical to sand

#

the right one is mine fyi

novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
#

this one is borrowed from Alex's Caves. That mod has a black version of prismarine, so it feels fitting (plus i wanted to make Chipped sets for mods at some point, and AC is high on that list)

novel talon
novel talon
#

finally figured out what to do with this block

#

funnily, was going to replace it originally with a completely different block me or CJ came up with, but this is pretty fitting for a "runic carving" i think

#

might make them actually say something, just have random letters there for now just to sell the idea

novel talon
#

random and animated textures

#

the stone textures are both!

split pivot
novel talon
#

i know right???

#

i was the same way with tuff too tbh

#

actually the most pointless block, but then i see 1.21 and i'm like "hold up a sec"

split pivot
#

Yeah but this time it's all YOUR doing. YOU'RE to blame for the feels I feel.

split pivot
#

(But make the trident head at a 2:1 pixel ratio, of course)

novel talon
#

I could try that, yeah

#

The clam is 32 pixels wide, so I'll have to get creative for that one

novel talon
#

hear me out

#

was gonna make the tiles slanted like this, but i like this better

split pivot
split pivot
#

There's even a teal one on the wiki, so you don't even need to colour pick

novel talon
#

i may just make a 32x32 texture for this

#

cause i like the idea

#

but i want it to be recongnizable

novel talon
#

also, checklist update

#

the one cyan wool is a face tile that doesn't have a top yet

#

decided i'd just replace all the textures i was unsure about

#

also, animating those three ctms on the left will be more annoying than i thought lol

#

time to stop procratingnating and try to finish those pillars

though honestly, the "curly" and "simple" pillar might be fine already, I'm just not marking any of them off the list until i finish all four

#

aaand for the massive bricks, i'll just take the basic prismarine bricks or scales, and make them fit that massive brick style of texture

#

one of these, to be more specific

#

and secondly, if i start getting stumped on the remaining textures, i'll move forward with fixing up dark prismarine in the meantime. most of that will be using the same texures, just a different color/noise anyways

#

Wondering though, should dark prismarine flash like normal prismarine sometimes does, or stay static? I was just gonna leave it a static color, but if you guys think animating it will look cool, I'll do that too. And if so, what colors?

novel talon
#

yeah, the 32 bit route aint it

#

honestly

#

i got a seashell in a block, i kinda just want something different for this pillar

#

thinking something with bubbles

#

definately still wanna do the trident though

novel talon
#

I also kinda want to make that last block like, a randomized bubble pattern like what's on the pillar

#

also one thing i learned from these first couple of sets of pillars

#

i like the idea of there basically being four blocks in one, but i gotta make them less ambitious than i did with prismarine

#

like they look cool now that i'm sorting them out, but trying to make every orientation blend well with not only itself, or even the other pillars too, but even a couple of normal blocks, was a tiny bit overwhelming lol

#

like i think they turned out cooler than the tuff pillars, but in the future i feel like i could make a pillar stand out better than tuff, without creating as much of a headache as i did with prismarine

#

that being said, i will try to make dark prismarine pillars blend similarly to prismarine. they'll be easier though i think, they're more like oddly shaped tiles, rather than wavy patterns

novel talon
#

here's how they look next to the tuff pillars

#

not lined up with each other, but eh, not too worried about it. so long as they pillars within the same set, or one VERY obviously matching their style line up, i'm not worried

#

like, calcite (whenever i do that 💀) will line up with tuff, and dark prismarine will line up with prismarine, but that's all i'm worried about

#

I was looking at the original blocks btw, and i think they work

#

I did it a little with tuff too, i wanted the single pillar blocks to to be kinda like, trims and accents to multiple block wide pillars and walls. granted, the single tuff blocks look more like the halves of the pillars than prismarine, but I like the prismarine so much on its own, i'd rather just pay more attenton going forward, but keep this here so you guys can use it with just a resource pack

novel talon
#

an idea the last unconnected texture i need

#

bubble wall

#

thinking about add ing one or two more textures that feature less bubbles

#

added one more texture to make it look less cluttered

novel talon
#

it's a start, but idk, i think i could improve this

#

the thing with the massive bricks, or even those two extra "massive" tuff blocks i made, they look good if you just place a single block

#

like, this looks fine, but then you use only half the ctm, and it looks terrible

novel talon
#

sorry for no update today, but i made a standard brick texture for the massive bricks anddddd

#

i might just have to make it this

#

my only idea to make it stand out would be to like, add a pattern to the bricks, but i don't think the brick shape itself can be changed much, definately not like those scales unfortunately

#

if anything, when we ship the additional blocks, maybe I'll try and think of something like a massive scale texture with optifine's ctm, cause that'll give me a couple more options

novel talon
#

improved

#

the frst one was from rechiseled, and i wanted to keep all the original colors, so i added two more shades to not make the brighest and darkest color stand out so much

novel talon
#

the new polished dark prismarine

#

i'll also update the bordered prismarine column to match this

#

added a couple more shades here that bridge some of the brighter shades too, so it looks similar to the original, and the top left cormer transitions to those brighter colors more smoothly

#

ok so

#

i may have accidentally made this a 16x15 texture

#

oops

#

wait what

#

i literally copy and pasted the original image

#

and something changed

#

ok, there you go, mixed the ctm for the cut column with that messed up texture lol

novel talon
split pivot
novel talon
#

with the other "massive" blocks, they look good as single blocks

#

not a fan that with this one in particular, it only looks good in you use the whole ctm - especially when these ctms are based on a predetermined grid, not where you place them

novel talon
#

made it basically the same thing as prismarine

#

i think this is better

#

so, what i did was use the colors for abyssmarine in Alex's Caves, similarly to how i used dark prismarine to completement normal prismarine

#

also, matching the noise for dark prismarine on the black tiles, like how i still match the noise of normal prismarine on those checkered tiles

#

by this logic, it means i gotta make a "polished abyssmarine" for the cut column, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it

novel talon
#

man, that's what's reall criminal with this mod

#

a lot of these textures are improved by just giving it a more fitting texture noise

#

and i decided the natural dark prismarine blocks will change color like prismarine

#

but it won't be onvious, like they flash completely different colors, it'll be like, they shift from the darker parts of the palette i made, to the brighter parts, back and forth

novel talon
#

something like

#

they have an identical candence to normal prismarine still btw

novel talon
#

i like how they kinda connect

#

like i like the pattern, but i'll def mess around with the noise

#

yeah, i'll work on it

novel talon
#

ok yeah, already much better

split pivot
#

What is it based on ?

novel talon
#

I made the wave pattern on the side of the default pillar come down from the top and bottom of the texture, and meet in the middle

novel talon
#

the sand texture is animated for this one, not the object in the center

novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
#

this one was a pain in the ass lol

#

just cause of the shine i give the edges

#

also, had two ctms i wanna change

#

like i'm gonna get rid of these

#

i think with boredered prismarine, i waana replace that cross pattern with something similar. Thinking something like fork like shapes overlapping each other

#

I don't think i want brick bordered to even be a ctm anymore though

Idk why, but i really like the idea of "tiny" bricks. And not like chipped's tiny bricks either, i mean the classic minecraft brick shape, but scaled down

#

Alex's Caves does something like this with one of it's block sets that i am definitely doing with blocks like mud and clay, so maybe i can do it here too?

novel talon
#

oh also, in other news

#

CJ actually came to me with the idea of making this a mod at some point

#

like obviously, there's a resource pack component if you just want that

#

but then there's stuff like the modded blocks i eventually wanna include, then there's stuff like tuff, where i got 10 blocks you just can't use even when we do publish the resource pack, and then there's the bigger projects i had like backporting, polishing, and expanding mods like Chisel and Create Deco

#

And originally i was gonna offer the KubeJS stuff to you guys, but now i don't think we'll even have to do that, it'll just be an add on for Chipped now

novel talon
#

Abysmarine from Alex's Caves

#

Polished Abyssmarine

#

actually relevant for this resource btw, because Prismarine used the Polished Dark Prismarine for the Cut Column block

#

so the Dark Prismarine Cut Column will use Polished Abyssmarine

#

(also, side note, when i do get to actual Abyssmarine god knows when, I'll just loop back around to mixing Prismarine with certain blocks, like i did with these two sets)

novel talon
novel talon
#

got me thinking

#

still doing this idea, but i'll make it overwrite one of the tiny bricks

#

this one more specifically

#

when i finish here, i have to go back to clean up a few inconsistencies with tuff as well, so this will include that block too

#

I'll want it to be similar to this texture, just so we're clear

#

tbh, i kinda want it to be random, with a few variations

novel talon
#

made them all uniform

#

there's also "layed bricks", but i'm going to actually change that one a fair bit

It's basically going to become a "tiny chiseled brick", similar to the alex's caves one above

#

only, there's going tobe multiple textures, and it'll be randomized

novel talon
#

also

#

getting rid of the deepslate tile shape altogether

#

instead, it'll be a randomized tiny brick pattern that uses both prismarine and dark prismarine colors

#

the tuff flat tiles will actually retain the deepslate tile shape though

novel talon
#

how the wall looks now

#

thinking instead of "cracked flat tiles", i'll just do a neat, non random version of these new discolored bricks

#

so if you want the messy look, you can, but if you just want stripped bricks, that's an option too

novel talon
#

since the cracked texture wouldn't work with tiny bricks, and i know the randomness is more niche, here's a static, clean version you can also use

#

again btw, won't be doing this to all the deepslate tiles, just prismarine

novel talon
#

they are completely random, them being in diagonal lines is a coincidence lol

#

also, fixed the random dark tiles, because it was missing one texture

#

should look a bit better now

novel talon
#

Localization wise, the "Flat (Dark) Prismarine Tiles" will now be called "Tiny Discolored (Dark) Prismarine Bricks"

The "Cracked Flat (Dark) Prismarine Tiles" will be called "Striped Tiny Discolored (Dark) Prismarine Bricks"

And the "Layed (Dark) Prismarine Bricks" will be called "Tiny Chiseled (Dark) Prismarine Bricks"

novel talon
#

Question though

#

Should these retain the usual colors tuff has like they do here? Or should I actually recolor and redesign the bricks to look more like the 1.21 bricks

#

Figured I'd ask since I'm going to clean them up once i finish prismarine

split pivot
# novel talon new

This is amazing, BUT

It doesn't connect. Bricks on the edges cut-off halfway

novel talon
#

It's a little bit better once I included the extra texture, but yeah I see what you mean

split pivot
novel talon
#

I was using Optifine ctm for that and I mislabeled the source texture, so it wasn't included in the random textures

split pivot
novel talon
#

Oh, CJ actually mentioned fixing up the Create windows from Every Compat at one point, and wanted to include some Create Deco blocks in our modpack without the entire mod

#

And I wanted to update Create Confectionary to use textures from Alex's Caves

So I will go over some inconsistencies in vanilla Create too

#

I also want to fix those copper textures

#

Like I get why they changed, but I don't know why it wasn't just a palette change

novel talon
#

also, checklist or dark prismarine

#

checking off finished blocks, by placing the equivalent prismarine block on them

#

still not sure what to do with the one ctm marked in red 💀

#

also, only the one pillar will be identical between these sets, the others will be different

#

Holy shit that's a ton

#

this is awesome!

novel talon
#

Thanks!

#

My switch 2 arrives on Saturday, gonna try and at least finish Prismarine by then

#

And then, I just gotta polish up the Tuff and I can ship this resource

novel talon
novel talon
#

face tiles

tepid galleon
#

Ooo

#

I love the random textures

novel talon
#

Oh, they aren't random!

#

They're the "Glad" "Angry" "Crying" and "Duh" Dark Prismarine blocks

#

As for "Sad" and "Spider", I replaced those two with a new texture

I wanted to try and come up with a way to actually transform the original blocks first, but I figured I didn't need both "sad" and "crying" blocks

tepid galleon
#

Ohh okay

#

That’s cool

novel talon
#

before

#

a little showcase of all the tiny brick textures

tepid galleon
#

I like the variation

novel talon
#

Thanks!

#

The random black tiles would be the new flat tile texture

#

and i replaced the cracked version with the striped tiles

tepid galleon
#

I don’t think many people actually use cracked tiles

novel talon
#

yeah true

#

and i like the shape of the deepslate tiles, but we don't need one for every single palette, so that's one to replace with a brand new texture, at least for a few blocks

novel talon
tepid galleon
#

I really like those

novel talon
#

Thanks!

#

The last two are random textures

tepid galleon
#

I like them :D

novel talon
#

one more ranodm texture

tepid galleon
#

Ooo I love how it tiles

novel talon
#

made the center use the blackstone looking texture

#

when we get to modded variants, i actually found a second new prismarine variant i could make a set for

tepid galleon
#

Ooo that's interesting

novel talon
#

finally working on the pillars lol

#

trying to make the single blocks connect smoothly, like with normal prismarine

#

here's the whole pillar

#

also not intentional, but theydo connect well with the top texture as well

tepid galleon
#

Ooo I love that!!

#

I'd totally use that in builds

novel talon
#

thanks!

#

the idea in my head was after seeing CJ use my tuff pillars

#

I'd treat the single blocks as something like trims or tiles

#

like you'd border things with them

tepid galleon
#

Oo alright

novel talon
#

and made a top texture to go with it

novel talon
#

made a third top texture

#

i'm not sure what to do with the fourth yet tbh

novel talon
novel talon
#

unsure about this one, but i wanted something that slightly sticks over the border, like the trident texture i made for normal prismarine

tepid galleon
#

Oo I like that

novel talon
#

a couple more

#

was a lot more productive today than i thought i'd be tbh

#

I'm trying out what to do to the bottom right one still, that's why that one looks odd

tepid galleon
tepid galleon
novel talon
#

Thanks!

#

wanted to keep a few of them simple

split pivot
#

These are all so fire

split pivot
# novel talon

Yeah, no, I don't think so for that one either... the Kirby popstar, that doesn't fit minecraft... Maybe do a Guardian tail ? Or another trident ?

novel talon
#

Sorry for the wait, been busy this week

#

Gonna continue tomorrow though!

novel talon
#

not much, but i did start animating those ctms!

#

kinda frustrating because Athena doesn't allow this, i had to use Optifine

novel talon
novel talon
#

Conduit Dark Prismarine

split pivot
novel talon
#

I'm a bit stumped on what to do for those marked in red still

#

And I'm not opposed to changing that star pillar, but i also just need a fourth design in general so

#

and i was originally wanting to make the massive bricks have a design across them, and I've actually made one for normal prismarine, but i think I'll just make that a completely separate block, because i like how these plain one turned out too (i still have to update dark, which is why i never marked them)

#

also, going to include the blocks left to the pillars whenever i make the add on to add my leftover textures way down the road. They're borrowed from Rechiseled, and I plan to redesign those as well eventually, which is why they're in the line up

#

but for now, while i'm trying to think of something for those blocks marked with red, I'm finally going to go back to Tuff and replace those placeholders, and clean up a few of those blocks

#

speaking of

#

I am going to replace this with a different prismarine block, if you guys like a particular dark/prismarine block i made

#

can be literally anything from that set btw, even the ctms or pillars (might as well leave that as an option because this resource will have Continuity as a dependency anyways after anitmating those CTMs)

novel talon
tepid galleon
#

Ooo

#

Tuff,,,

novel talon
#

yes!

#

cleaning up some of the textures i did

#

The old ones were basically just a recolor

#

I'm unsure what to do for the fourth texture, it can really be anything now that i changed how these tiny bricks looked

#

there are also a few you guys won't see when the inital pack drops, but i'll show them here anyways because i might as well fix up those textures as well so i don't forget

novel talon
split pivot
# novel talon new

Can't you make a really small bevel ? Like 1 pixel wide ? It feels wrong to see flat tuff bricks

novel talon
#

I didn't really like when I did a border like that

#

They didn't look much different from what I already had

novel talon
#

This was a texture CJ got. I didn't like how it wrapped originally, so i cleaned it up

novel talon
#

the old placeholder

#

also, side note, i will shift the Deepslate Tiles up one pixel, to line up with Chipped's Flat Tiles

novel talon
novel talon
#

so my idea with this one

#

basically, that block will still reference a Prismarine texture, BUT now I'll try and use a block other than just the normal bricks

#

also, it gives me options to work with when trying to make it look like a Prismarine block, but also like it belongs in that block family

#

Also i wanted to do something similar to Prismarine, but i don't think this one will be random like Prismarine was

I mean, I got this idea from Alex's Caves, and the block in question isn't random either, so. I can always make some sets random or animated, but some a single texture like this

novel talon
novel talon
#

ok so interesting development

#

CJ was looking for a Prismarine texture for us to use

#

and found out Twilight Forest based their Nagastone Pillar texture off the original Chisel mod

#

the same artist that made that pillar also made a Prismarine texture very similar, and we might use that for one of these ctms

#

Mine wouldn't be a 1:1 though, because Chisel was for 1.4. I'd have to make a modernized version of it basically, but it's a start

novel talon
#

last tuff texture

novel talon
#

Maybe they made their own custom textures???

#

But that doesn't make sense, they physically made Chisel lol

#

Anyways that's what it looks like

#

If you've played Twilight Forest, it has similar looking blocks

#

CJ made this mock up from images they posted on Twitter a decade ago lol

#

I'll brighten it up of course, and make it's noise match modern Prismarine more

BUT if you guys want it to be darker than normal Prismarine (just not this dark), I could do that too

novel talon
#

The old texture will be a part of the add on instead of the resource pack

#

i wanted a texture that was more like a "pillar", and in the additional blocks for Tuff, we have a block similar to the original prismarine pillar as well

#

so this change is moreso for consistency

#

also if the new texture looks familiar, i redesigned a MC Dungeons texture

novel talon
#

the two pillars side by side

novel talon
#

all three together

#

ok glad i figured out something more fitting for these

novel talon
novel talon
#

decided just doing what i did for normal prismarine was probably best

#

I want the other one to be a star though instead of a trident, especially for the other set I'm adding later on that's a cousin to these two

#

still gotta make a bottom for this one though regardless, so

novel talon
#

consider

#

the colors for terracotta might need a bit of adjustment, and i can't orient the glazed teracotta yet, but this is a rough concept

novel talon
#

Also I have the next couple of sets planned out

#

I'll make a full copper set, and a cardboard set (from Create)

#

We got the announcement earlier about the next update for the base game, plus copper would just go well with these current two blocks

novel talon
#

last pillar top texture

#

Also, just so we're clear, I will change that star design for the Fine Pillar, but that'll be last

#

they look a little similar to the Fine Pillars (bottom right)

#

but i honestly don't mind that, if they're basically and in between of the Simple and Fine Pillars

novel talon
steep vault
novel talon
#

Thanks!

#

Also, CJ is making our custom blocks a separate mod

#

So these completely new blocks I'm showing you should be available around when we get the resource pack up too

#

This includes the Rechiseled blocks I'm messing with too, because that dev is actually ok with using his work, so long as it isn't a 1:1

novel talon
#

more news!

#

since the rechiseled dev is ok with me using his mod and textures as a base for these sets

#

here's a checklist for the rechiseled blocks i intend to add to our extended chipped blocks add on

#

green meaning i will use the texture as is, cyan meaning i will modify the texture to be more in line with the Chipped portion i designed, and red meaning I'll be replacing those textures (CJ added the block IDs already, and we've since decided we don't want them, but CJ would rather not delete them, and i don't mind making more textures)

#

also there are more prismarine than dark prismarine atm, but that will eventually change, CJ is just waiting for the textures before making the blocks. So both palettes will have each block

novel talon
#

Finally coming back to this!

#

Sorry, vacation and Destiny 2 distracted me lol

#

Gonna continue tonight, so you'll see something in the next day or two

sick zodiac
#

looking awesome, i gotta appreciate some good brick textures

woeful bear
#

Holy moly

#

Very peak

novel talon
#

thanks!

#

unsure about this one tbh

#

i honestly don't mind it, as a simple block meant to border things

#

ok, imma lock this one in, but if you guys want a texture similar to the one i replaced, i shall make that as well

novel talon
#

this'll basically be the unanimated version of the brick bordered texture

novel talon
#

gonna start working on those redesigned rechiseled textures today, since i finally finished the chipped textures (this will be a bit because of a couple of technical things i wanna run by CJ first)

#

again, the polished rechiseled textures will be a seperate mod, while if you JUST want chipped, that'll be a resource pack

novel talon
#

the removal of borders looks odd at first, but

#

it looks fine when combining it with other prismarine blocks

novel talon
#

can't show a before and after for this one cause of techincal limitations

#

the rechiseled brick i just showed, mixed with the chipped bricks

novel talon
#

these two, i'm thinking with just be slanted and diagonal tiles

#

and for this one, i'm just gonna remove the border and make the outline the same color as a normal brick

#

also, gonna remove the ctms, and make them a single texture. one way to reduce file size

#

and for these ones, i won't change them at all. they're included in the mod because i'll add variations of them for other blocks, and it'd be weird to not have the originals present. they current are only on prismarine, not even dark prismarine. also, the rechiseled dev is ok with me reuploading some blocks, so long as it isn't the entire mod.

novel talon
#

new tiles

#

the diaginal ones are slightly smaller in size, cause i wanted a clean looking grid pattern. if i made them the same size as the other tiles, the intersections would be a 2x2 pixel area, and i think making this texture by itself look good is more important than making it connect with other textures better.

#

example of what i mean. the new "rows" texture looks great directly next to the tiles, but the "diagonal tiles", not so much. but i still think this is the better way of handling it

novel talon
#

also shifted the texture slightly

#

that way it lines up with the tiles

#

a checklist of the rechiseled blocks we're including btw

#

green means either they aren't changing, or i've redesigned them already, and cyan means i'm going to redesign them

novel talon
#

working on these next. nothing crazy, just making them match the bricks i currently have

#

plus a wall made wth the small bricks, and both the connected and unconnected rotated bricks

novel talon
#

oh yeah, i forgot to show

#

two new blocks

#

based on other blocks we have

#

ignore the way the tuff connects. i wanna focus on prismarine for now

#

but hey, at least the one i made looks good lol

#

i'll be making a version of those "wrapped pillars" for every block i end up working on that i can btw

#

and the chiseled blocks too, but not as many. i want these variants to be unique, and you can only make so many unique 8x8 textures, especially when locked to a particular palette each time lol

novel talon
#

i don't know what to do with these three

#

i know i said i'd redesign them, but if you guys got suggestions, i could replace them altogether (single texture or ctm, either works)

#

i actually like these by themselves, but i don't want the rechiseled blocks in the mod unless there's a good reason. at that point just also use that mod

#

In the meantime though, I got 5 I do know what to do with lol

Plus Dark Prismarine so

novel talon
#

it's not a stretch to assume we could make some pots with other materials, like prismarine

#

for now though, next two texture i'm gonna change. thinking these two will look similar when i'm done - one will be wavy, and one will be straight

novel talon
novel talon
#

but

#

i shall start working on the dark prismarine blocks now

novel talon
#

first two dark prismarine blocks i'm working on

#

plus, i'm also making a "large tile" block, which in an unconnected polished dark prismarine block. i just don't have a before image on that one because there was a typo for the texture name, so the current texture is the typical missing texture

#

oops, this is the second block i'm working on lol

novel talon
#

gonna work on these two next

#

also a dark prismarine version of this. i don't have texture for this one already

novel talon
novel talon
# novel talon

Gonna start with the normal version of these rotated bricks today

#

had to make a placeholder block for this one. guess we forgot to add a space for it already

novel talon
#

working on these two next

novel talon
#

making a dark prismarine version of this next

novel talon
#

changed that diagonal brick texture so it lines up with the tile and brick textures better

#

the next one i'm working on

novel talon
#

gonna do these two chipped textures i forgor about next

novel talon
novel talon
#

Looked at some Minecraft Dungeons blocks, see if I can bring one over

I might do this one, but give it a prismarine look of course

#

As one of the three textures I gotta fill in with something

novel talon
#

i shifted it a couple pixels compared to what mojang did, and i think it works better

#

like, at least it can kind of connect to things

novel talon
#

ok, time to suck it up

#

gonna make the dark prismarine version of these next

#

gonna have to overwrite those textureless dummy blocks you see in the corner of the image lol

novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
#

next one i'm working on

#

this one is gonna be a pain in the ass, cause the ctm is spaghetti

split pivot
#

Here's some inspiration ! If you're running low on ideas for prismarine, how about the special blocks they made for the Sea Temple in Minecraft Story Mode ?

steep vault
#

How much rework completition percentage?

novel talon
#

ok so, again, sorry for disappearing, health issues this time BUT

novel talon
# steep vault How much rework completition percentage?

Almost done. For the mod side, I'm cleaning up two more textures from Rechiseled, and making two more dark prismarine variants of already existing prismarine textures I liked. Then I got two textures separate from Rechiseled I'm also adding.

As for JUST the resource pack, that should be done finally I believe, I'll talk to CJ about uploading it to Modrinth shortly.

novel talon
#

Story mode, as in official content??

#

cause those were made by the Twilight Forest artist

#

That'd be pretty sick if they incorporated stuff from community members, i never knew about that lol

#

though, yes, CJ liked the idea of including Nagastone textures in some block sets, so we could have that if you guys want that for prismarine

though, that'd be a future update, considering i can FINALLY upload these two sets i made for everyone to use

#

finally, as for this one, upon looking at it some more and thinking about it, the center for this one looks fine imo

#

i'm just considering whether to remove the border outright, or redesign it to look like the other bordered blocks in chipped

#

another random bordered block, for reference

#

oh yeah, and for actual progress being made that i can showcase, gonna finish more of those remaining textures tonight ideally I'd be done with my textures by the weekend, but i'm currently unsure about how that translates to the mod side, i'd have to wait for CJ to get back with me

novel talon
#

Ok, so mini update

#

CJ said we'll update out server first

#

And he said he'd be ready but this weekend

#

So I'll let you guys know more about the resource pack being posted after the weekend

novel talon
#

ended up leaving it mostly the same, but making the center a bit brighter, and the border a bit darker

novel talon
#

liked the idea of there being a checkered version of the classic dark prismarine block

#

as for the old design, i liked it, but i don't think it fits with the rest of these blocks. I'll be sure to make design like this for other block sets though in the future

#

also, one of the new dark prismarine blocks based on an already existing prismarine block

#

above it is a connected version, so that's next

steep vault
steep vault
#

But some textures looks really odd

#

In default mod

novel talon
#

true!

#

right now it's just Tuff and (Dark) Prismarine, both for the mod that'll add more blocks, and the texture pack

#

but i already got ideas for blocks like Ice, Copper, Mud, Sandstone, and Calcite, and hope to be much faster with the next batch of textures

#

also, if you got a favorite block, i could also work on the chipped textures for that block as well, sooner than others

#

ALSO, you can just play with the texture pack. i just made way too many textures for it, and CJ had the idea of making a mod that adds extra blocks so we can still make use of them

I even intend to add chipped support for mods like Create eventually (mmm... cardboard)

#

but yeah, the first version will release after the weekend, just so we're clear. i was considering pinging everyone currently joined in under this post whenever there's a modrinth page

novel talon
#

a wall made with those two blocks and some of the others i made

novel talon
#

next will be this weird pillar texture from rechiseled

#

this one will suck, because I've used a shortened optifine format for the others - with is almost identical to how chipped does it, texture design wise

#

but this last one, because of how it connects, will require a full optifine texture map, which is 46 textures 💀

#

i can copy and paste a few, but having to sort out which ones i can do that for will still be a pain lol

thank god this is at least one of the ones i'm only adding to dark prismarine

novel talon
#

the unconnected block

#

this is one of those ones i'm taking 1:1 from rechiseled (been a while since i mentioned it, so i wanna make it clear i got permission to do that.)

#

but only the prismarine one was in reshiseled, so i'm making the dark prismarine one from scratch

#

also, just so we're clear those blank texture blocks don't mean anything, they were just placeholders in case i needed a block to slap a texture on lol

novel talon
#

this texture

#

pain

#

lol

novel talon
#

now i got two more things

#

well, three, technically

#

first, i got a partially designed variant of this that puts a little design on the bricks, for both normal and dark prismarine

#

second, i'm gonna change this texture a bit

#

i did one change to clean up the sides, so in this particular image it looks fine

#

but when trying to use the diferent faces together...

#

yeah, it's bad lol

novel talon
#

i know CJ is already building things with this block, but it must be done, for my sanity and your potential creativity lol

#

i don't think it'll be perfect, but it HAS to be better than this, so i'll do that then post the result here, and go from there

steep vault
tepid galleon
#

It’s a pillar, when used as a pillar it looks good

novel talon
#

true

#

well, then i'll think about it a bit

#

in the meantime though, i will work on those large bricks

#

so for the dark prismarine, i wanted a mural on it that had things like fish, kelp, and coral etched on it

#

then for the normal prismarine, it'd be waves, mabe a sun

#

then one mod i wanted include into the mod side for sure was Alex's Caves - he made a prismarine variant called abyssmarine. the place where it comes from has a very ancient alien vibe yes, even next to everything in that mod, so i wanted it's massive brick to have like a moon and stars on it

#

it's a shame the way Alex handles fair use though, I'm gonna have to make those extra blocks related to it require the mod itself as a dependency 💀

#

but his art design is sick af, so i'm still gonna do it for fun lol

novel talon
novel talon
#

to, me, this is the prismarine equivalent of those massive tuff blocks

novel talon
#

And here's everything laid out! Feel free to let me know which you like the most/want to see more blocks look like, or if there are any you think could be improved still.

novel talon
#

gonna be quiet a few days while CJ finishes stuff. i'll respond to comments and replies though

afterwards, i'll think about what to work on next, and post the link to the pack

novel talon
#

Ok so

Looking at suggestions from friends and the builds in my own SMP

#

Thinking next will be Deepslate and Calcite

novel talon
#

I was looking at Fungus' textures for Deepslate, since he gave me permission to use them, and it'd give me a starting point

#

And bro

#

Now, we'll see about the left one, cause I also got perms to use Rechiseled blocks too, and they also had a cool, albeit different vibe going on

novel talon
# novel talon

But I think I'll use those pillar textures for the middle of all the pillar CTMs again, and make his "Pillar Capital" just the new Curly Pillar

#

Unsure if I should do the mosaic tiles though. Like, it's a good texture of course, but I got those tiny bricks layered with random tiles for Prismarine too. So I could do either really. Or a combination of both.

#

Oh!

novel talon
# novel talon

I could use Rechiseled's bricks and tiles here as an alternative to the "Rounded Bricks" Chipped provides

#

And then make the normal brick more befitting the aesthetic Fungus was going for

novel talon
#

annyways, here's everything

#

I'm forming a better idea

#

Because Rechiseled's blocks are named "Cobbled Deepslate"

#

thinking i can just make two sets here out of these blocks - adding extra blocks than what you see here wherever it makes sense (i.e, we don't need a "Creeper Face" block for both sets, but we'd probably want a "Small Brick" for both sets)

#

one set of blocks being a "Cobbled Deepslate" set based off of Rechisled's blocks, and a "Polished Deepslate" set based on Fungal's blocks

novel talon
#

had to make a new texture for the single blocks, on the side, but it begins

novel talon
#

i feel like this one was as obvious as the guardian one i made for prismarine

#

now, fungus made a top texture

#

but i'm not placing it here

#

I'm instead gonna place it on the "Cut Blank Deepslate" block, because i gave that block a top texture for Prismarine

novel talon
#

just the top rn

novel talon
#

changed it a tiny bit

novel talon
novel talon
#

The pillar tops put together. They don't blend as perfectly as the Prismarine, but I fell like I matched Fungal's style with the two I made

novel talon
#

made them slightly darker

#

based off of a texture fungus made that i intend to split into two textures, so it matches with my other textures better

novel talon
#

a couple tiles were shaded weird lol

steep vault
steep vault
novel talon
#

thanks!

#

i mean, yeah

#

i do want to try and make my own version of these chipped textures wherever possible - like they loosely look like the original - rather than just replacing them outright. That being said, there are a few textures that are generally pointless amoung these that i don't see like, ANYONE using. So there is a little room for something new with just the texture pack part

novel talon
#

the other half of the texture was some larger tiles

#

this one is A LOT more noticeable

#

at a glance, they looked too dark, but it turns out that color and shading is comfortably in between the Deepslate Tiles and Deepslate Bricks.

#

so i guess it is fine like that, though, i will aim to make at least a couple of blocks use some of the lighter shades the brick uses

novel talon
novel talon
#

i'm excited to basically come up with as many eyeball designs that fit in a 14x14 square as possible throughout the pack

novel talon
#

considering making this the pillar top texture, but i don't think it'd be as good if it could be used as a single texture

#

wait

#

you kinda can

#

make a floor of only this texture

#

a little odd but, it basically is alternating placing it horizontally, and placing it vertically. that way, it doesn't connect and you get this. if you were really dedicated though, you could be meticulous about it, and make it look better by orienting the pillars well

#

you could also use a mod like Create: Copycats or Framed Blocks, and line up the textures on the same axis, but this shows it's possible with Chipped being your ONLY mod, so

novel talon
#

ended up giving the original single Simple Pillar block texture to this one, cause that lines up perfectly with the other textures for this pillar

#

here's all the pillar textures in a row

#

the three marked by wool were the ones made by Fungus

novel talon
#

now, technically i could possibly use another pillar texture, one that is just a plain block, no ctm

#

the only reason i'm not gonna replace it, is because i've made a prismarine and tuff replacement of that block that actually is true to the "pillar" and "pillar top" label

#

but that'll be later, i'm gonna revel in the fact the ctm pillars did not take an embarassing amount of time to finish this time somehow

novel talon
novel talon
#

A showcase of some of the blocks I've made so far put together.

novel talon
novel talon
#

I don't like that there's like 4 variants of an "inlayed" tile, so i made one of them a tiled version of the new brick i made

novel talon
novel talon
#

was looking, and i think i'll do something similar to the face tiles that i did for tuff

#

instead of just faces, i'll be mobs

#

gonna base it off of a MC Dungeons texture

#

gonna give it a top texture though, like i did with prismarine

novel talon
#

that top texture is the last one i got from Fungus

#

not sure i like it here tbh, i think i'll put it somewhere else

#

yeah i'll just use that texture here

#

thinking i will call this "Polished Deepslate"

#

as the vanilla block is called "Polished Cobbled Deepslate", and i intend to actually make dedicated Cobbled blocks

#

thus, i'll make the chipped texture for Polished Deepslate, i'll refernce this one

novel talon
#

gonna change that middle texture, but the idea is it's bordered like the rechiseled tile ctms

#

(if you like the middle texture btw, that's part of the modded side)

#

but yeah, not gonna retroactively place a new ctm over the prismarine and tuff block, but i hate the smooth column ctm usually, and struggle to see why anyone would prefer that ctm, when you got other blocks with better borders

#

and i REALLY want to avoid adding extra blocks to this set, because the modded side will be the "cobbled" deepslate blocks, plus a couple rechiseled textures being redesigned to fit the chipped set. so i want less blocks for this set than the previous ones, even if only a few

#

and god knows how annoying making unique, aesthetically pleasing ctms is. as much as i dislike the default textures, i can't really fault chipped artists on these ones, especially if there's 10 of them

novel talon
#

so uhhhh

#

these blocks just don't exist in chipped for deepslate

#

guess it works out, cause as i said before, there's a few blocks i just don't see anyone using, let alone me finding something that matches thematically

#

and i wanted this set to be slightly smaller

#

just a little odd chipped devs already did that for me lol

#

hmm i think i see why

#

there IS a texture listed for both blocks, but there's a typo

#

and considering the blocks just don't exist at all either, I reckon the block ID had a typo as well, so it's not appearing in the mod at all

novel talon
#

all my tiny mosaic bricks together

novel talon
#

i think this is better

novel talon
novel talon
#

better chiseled deepslate

novel talon
novel talon
#

we have reinforced deepslate at home

#

for the record this is literally a recolor of the vanilla texture

novel talon
novel talon
#

i think i could make this one look better, but imma come back to it later

novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
#

honestly, i might also make this the top of those face blocks

#

which by the way, i don't think i will use all 6, so i'll have room for a couple other designs i think

woeful bear
#

These deep slate textures are so tuff

novel talon
#

Thanks!

novel talon
#

Also, before I work again, update on the resource pack

#

CJ will upload it this weekend. I'll ping everyone currently in the thread whenever it is available on Modrinth

#

This will only include the first two sets of textures I made, Deepslate will come after I'm done with it and Calcite

novel talon
#

i do like the idea of just being really extreme with the palette change for this block, but otherwise maintaining that shape

#

changed the border slightly

novel talon
#

you can kinda treat these blocks as tiles

#

or as a corner/center

novel talon
#

one shall stay, one shall go

#

thinking basalt for both blocks, but i'd need and alternative for whichever one i decide to change

#

the chiseled stone texture is a wild card, i can replace it with literally anything

#

ok i got the ringed deepslate alternative, or inlayed deepslate

#

probably inlayed now that i say it out loud lol

#

now that i'm looking at everything, i'm seeing some of these textures, and part of me wants to move them around, and part of me just wants to leave them there cause i feel like if you want this through of a txture overhaul, you don't really care about the textures matching the original block, so much as you care if they look better lol

#

like this one i'm working on could make a good "smooth inlayed deepslate" block, and the other would be more fitting for just "inlayed deepslate"

#

idk, if i remember by the time i localize, i'll swap texture names around

novel talon
novel talon
#

looking at a few mods for ideas, and it got me thinking

#

replicating the Bordered Tuff with Deepslate, and making the lines alternate the lighter and darker colors from the block, similat to how the tuff alternates the blue and grey colors

#

and the border will be the tiny bricks outline

#

got the idea from a mod called "desire" in case you're curious, that mod has quite the pretty set of blocks

novel talon
#

i think i'm cooking

novel talon
#

this one was bothering me, so i cleaned it up

novel talon
#

ok, i like making these patterned tiles, but imma try and make something different next

novel talon
#

replacing a couple of the face tiles with diagonal bricks

novel talon
#

i like it, but idk, it's missing something i think

#

i'm debating making the sides connect, which i can do with an optifine ctm

#

an improvement, but i think i could do a bit more

#

also the side will be odd looking, the center is the only thing i'm modifying

#

i think this is what i'm setling on

novel talon
novel talon
novel talon
#

polished cobbled deepslate

#

But it's connecting

#

all of the polished blocks together

#

didn't notice how weird this one looked until i laid it out lol

#

ok so, i was gonna compare the rechisled style tile ctms

#

and i realized i don't have one for tuff

#

tbh i might just obliterate this texture to make it happen, and make it so you guys can see without the modded half

#

ugh, this is annoying though, cause that means you won't see it in the first version that'll get uploaded to modrinth

#

yeah, i won't make a habit of this, but i'mma change this texture

#

all the tiles

#

yes, half of them are deepslate

#

also

#

i noticed i've kinda been staying in a similar area in terms of blocks i pick and designs i use

#

like, two different deepslate sets, two primarine sets, and calcite is coming up which is much like tuff

#

i was kinda in the mood to do something like ice or bricks next, or make a custom chipped set for cardboard from create now that my SMP has create 6

#

just something really out there

#

haven't done one of these in a bit, but here's a checklist of what's left here

#

imma be ready for the second version of the pack before CJ is ready for the first at this rate

#

i wanna try something with the curly texture, so i got it marked in cyan lol

woeful bear
#

novel talon
#

thanks!

#

gonna work on this more tonight

#

might start calcite

novel talon
#

Welp

#

Ended up localizing the texture pack

#

I should be able to ship it tonight

#

So nothing to show yet BUT I did do something lol

#

Also I did update the Tuff and Prismarine textures to the couple I fixed

novel talon
#

ok so

#

it's is under review offically

#

so now it's just up to modrinth to verify it and allow the listing to go through

#

then i'll link it here for you guys

steep vault
#

I will add it to my modpack update

novel talon
#

Awesome!

#

And after it's approved, then I'll get back to the Calcite and Deepslate textures

novel talon
#

welp, semi bad news then

#

in case you haven't seen the other threads, the reglazed terracotta artist has not permitted me to use their textures in my pack

#

i am unsure what i will do as an alternative, but it seems really awkward one of the most obvious blocks to cover with a texture pack if you were doing a chipped texture pack, won't be in mine

#

which is mildly frustrating. not because i can't just use them, but because there's no 1.21 version either, and it sounds like they didn't really have a desire to make one either.

so i can't just direct players to their pack and say they should download that, cause most players probably aren't downloading a pack they can't use, and manually porting it just to use it with mine.

#

which, i know porting the pack is easy - they even replied to me telling me how to do it. but never assume your players just know something off the top of their head, no matter how easy it may seem to you

#

(Also, side note, there is a 1.20 version of my pack. but the the issue i'm getting at is the latest minecraft version would be the worst. so if they don't at least update their listing, i'll have to come up with something myself. I'd value the consistency more than some admittedly amazing textures)

#

anyways, rant aside, i got some textures to work on. I know i said i'd wait for the verification, but i got some motivation to at least clean up a couple of the ctms

novel talon
#

i wasn't sure about this one at first, but now that i'm seeing it, yeah this one looks good lol

#

fixed it a bit

novel talon
#

Yeah it sucks

#

In my mod that adds blocks though, I still plan adding Chipped support to Dye Depot, and I may also have something else cooking that gives you more glazed terracotta like blocks too. Those blocks will be designed similarly to that texture pack.

#

I just won't have the source textures

novel talon
#

Also mini update

#

Modrinth is asking I provide proof I got permission from Fungal and SuperMartijn (creator of Rechiseled)

Which I do have screenshots thankfully. But that means another day or two.

I mean, Story Mode is a love letter to Minecraft

A terribly written one, but a love letter nonetheless.

Just look, Story Mode has :

  • the Order of the Stone name
  • Minecon
  • a Nether Highway
  • 2B2T
  • a literal Redtsone community
  • mob grinders and mob farms
  • Skyblock
  • a roleplay spooky mansion
  • actual youtubers cameoing
  • a redstone computer
  • spleef
  • immature admins throwing temper tantrums
All of these things were invented by the community. They had no obligation to do it, none of these are "Minecraft brand icons", but they did it anyway. And you can be damn sure the villain of Season 4 would've been Herobrine, at that point 😂

I'd definitely do Cardboard first, because 40 cardboard box variants sounds really funny, but also kinda cool if it's done right

#

But I do wanna do all those stone types they add too. I'd just do the material blocks and things like Cardboard first probably

#

Oh, and I'll add a few Copper blocks while I'm at it

novel talon
#

If you mean like, what I'll do for the block sets

#

I'll treat it like a Rechiseled or Chipped set, and leave the base blocks Create provides there

Though I suppose the aesthetic I try to go for could just be the default Create aesthetic. That depends on if people would have a preference tbh - like, would they want more blocks like what Create has, or do they want to see me do my own thing

drowsy slate
#

I'm asking this so I can prepare for the extra blocks mod release accordingly.

novel talon
#

I started work on Calcite

#

big post incoming

#

Chose those 4 calcite blocks to dump for this because they were the cracked and mossy bricks for the tuff set. I figured it was more important to make sure you get to see the alternatives to the 1.21 blocks in just the texture pack if you didn't care for the mod portion. And I'll add the missing bricks to the mod.

#

Also, these aren't a 1:1 of Qzimyion's blocks, I altered the shading a bit, plus tried to reduce the amount of miniscule shade changes she did.

#

(I know it's been a while since these were in the conversation, so just so we're clear, I did get permission to use them)

#

@split pivot Sorry for the ping, but I figured I'd let you know about these, since you suggested them!

#

And so, now I just gotta translate these Calcite bricks' style to my Tuff set

split pivot
split pivot
#

I guess, now, all that matters is to find other stone variants to do water and earth themes with 😆😆

#

I suggest Granite for earth and Ice for water

novel talon
novel talon
#

Water and fire btw, I think that's supposed to be a mountain on Qzimyion's blocks

#

If you were serious btw, and got suggestions for what blocks that'd be, I'm down to hear them

novel talon
#

Wait

#

Hear me out

#

Netherack

#

Or some sort of Nether block

#

Blackstone or Gilded Blackstone maybe?

split pivot
#

And you can tell because that is undeniably a flame

split pivot
# novel talon Blackstone or Gilded Blackstone maybe?

At first I was going to say Blackstone, but :

  • Blackstone being fully black would make it a pretty terrible pick to have ornate carvings on because they'd be barely visible
  • I think it would make more sense in the "lore" that these elemental carvings were made by one civilisation, thus in just one dimension (otherwise you'd have to pick one from the End for water, like Endstone or Purpur, and wouldn't that be ironic)
  • You have 2/4 of the elements made out of overworld stones, it would kinda break the neat pattern to take them from other dimensions

But I mean it's your pack, in the end, you do what you think is best, those are just my autistic two cents 🤣🤣

novel talon
#

i didn't realize that, then yeah that makes sense

novel talon
#

ok then

#

so vanilla overworld blocks, and it would be earth and water themed

#

actually, i got all these block lined up in one spot, i can look rq

split pivot
#

Please excuse the poor illustration, this was made on my phone 😅

split pivot
novel talon
#

We could always add more block to the modded portion, or move the current textures over to it if we get a good replacement

#

a couple of the tuff blocks are a bit dated, being amoung my first textures

split pivot
novel talon
#

yeah, it'd be a mod though, not the resource

split pivot
novel talon
#

cause like, i had several texture i thought were good enough for the texture pack, but you know, not enough blocks. so CJ helped make a mod that adds more blocks to chipped. that's what we're also using to add blocks for mods like Create

split pivot
novel talon
#

yeah at the end of the 5th screenshot iirc

novel talon
#

ok so

#

thinking

#

A few blocks that came to mind for a possible Tuff adjacent set, like Calcite, were Dripstone or Obsidian. Copper also came to mind, but that's mixed with Tuff, so I don't think so

#

oh, and there's the borderless bricks too, but i'm unsure about that

split pivot
#

Copper is not a stone, though. If you make chiseled copper bricks, where are chiseled iron, gold and netherite bricks ?

novel talon
#

yeah

#

apparently chipped has twice as many brick blocks as other block sets

#

half with the white borders, half without

novel talon
#

man, there aren't many stones to use lol

#

I definitely like the idea of Dripstone though

#

yeah, the most i can think for the last one though is Andesite or Granite, but the colors would be really similar then, or Obsidian

#

To be fair, while both Mojang and Qzimyion stuck to the original color palettes for their blocks, the blocks still give off the illusion of being a different color visually, because the color distribution is far different from the source block

#

So obsidian could work, and the blocks look dark purple or navy blue, and sparingly use black

novel talon
novel talon
#

thinking the light blues used for the top of the chiseled bricks will be what i use as a secondary color for this set in general

#

though i don't think i will too much, I'll probably resort to using it wherever i used a lot of green for tuff, like the cut tuff column or face tiles

#

and possibly the checkered tile, but idk about that one, i'll mess with it later today

#

fixed a couple of things

novel talon
#

hear me out

#

after this next update to the pack

#

next can be some leaves, and the ice and/or snow blocks

#

for christmas :3

#

oh

#

we can add Create Confectionary blocks too

#

when i said Create support for the mod protion, I mean add ons that are reliably updated as well, and that is one of them

Those bordered blocks

#

I wanna make my over version of them for Tuff and Calcite

#

Recolored of course, and the border would be more reminiscent of the other tuff blocks. And instead of skulls, it'd be that little eye design I put on a few of the blocks

#

And they'd be like logs, and have the same top texture as Chiseled Tuff and Chiseled Tuff Bricks, that way you could use that texture for a wall

novel talon
#

Also

#

Considering making new wood and log textures for Chipped based on this pack

#

This guy is also making a biome and space mod as well, with his own wood and stone types, so it could be a mod I make chipped sets for

#

But that's up to you guys, and it'll be a while

Mostly wanna know if you guys like this texture pack right now. So I know if it is worth doing

#

I don't like his Spruce logs, but he said he would change that one, because he didn't like it either

but yeah, I'll make those new tuff blocks later today lol

novel talon

had to use a different brick and the connecting polished tuff cause this is a 1.20 test instance (since these blocks have to be added, they aren't simply a texture)

#

but you get the idea

novel talon
#

Before vs after

#

This will be in the next version of the pack, however

#

while we're on the topic of correcting a few tuff things

#

this thing

#

i hate

#

this was made before i decided the Chipped texture sucks ass, and just replaced it with recolored sand for the other blocks

#

and i never retroactively changed it for tuff, as you see

#

so I think imma do that

#

i have no clue how i didn't catch these before

#

so yeah, tonight will just be cleaning these up then lol

#

maybe a calcite texture or two, but these are kinda a mess rn
