#More color variants for terracotta pots and diningware

i feel like at some point handcrafted will need to be split up into individually controllable modules
just because of how many gosh darn permutations of everything there are
they manage chipped, they're probably very familiar with many variants of one thing
there are 16 colors in vanilla minecraft, *2 for glazed versions for 64
lets say we've got 10 terracotta items... that means 640 items. just for colored terracotta.
i know
but at some point you're registering 10k items and the game is gonna start slowing down
yeah,,,
not saying they shouldn't implement the new colors, but i'm just not sure if that policy will work long-term as the mod expands
gosh darn exponentials
i think itd be a bit more practical performancewise to just have a base variant of the items, then ability to color them how you wish, kind of like leather armor? which would then mean only one variant of the items are getting registered, and the colors, being defined through code, are now more customizable than they would otherwise be, but would also mean less flexibility for the artists as the texture(s) would need be greyscale and might lose some details because of that
now that could be interesting
then you could, say, customize things however you like
all they'd have to do is reverse engineer how minecraft art creators go from a base color to a terracotta version
fun fact, if I recall correctly 30% of chipped's load time is just the trapdoors and doors due to all their blockstates
but, we do try to make our mods as lag-free as possible
So handcrafted will probably become a mix and match for people to decide themselves, because we do intent to add way more varied content such as futuristic and steampunk furniture
i could make a pretty simple web-based configurator for you guys, if you want
👀
it wouldn’t be particularly pretty, but it would be functional
