#Pay to Refresh Shops

Title. I think all of the different shop types should have the option to pay an increasing amount of money to "refresh" the shop with new items. It's a pretty basic deckbuilder mechanic, improves consistency, and diversifies the use of Bling.

Alternatively you can expand this to Frozen Companions and Chests but I think people would probably prefer keeping this restricted to shops.

also gives me an excuse to make more content for my fanmade tribes

This would give the player a very meaningful choice, do I take a reshuffle on the cards I see or a charm? Because you could brick and see nothing even after a reroll while you’re guaranteed a charm, it adds risk and reward

#

I’d definitely want to restrict this though to only the woolly snail/charm merchant, having rerolls on companions would make it too easy to always be able to force one build

🤔 But like, if shops are all random wanderers with a small amount of room to carry wares, how are you magically poofing more items into the world? They're all wizards now? 😆

a specific pool for purchasable companions
I actually kind of like this idea, although agree with Kingpoop64 that it might be too easy to get a specific synergy. (And those are where the big power comes from.) Maybe all of these mercenaries could be weaker than average, to balance out the fact that you're pretty much guaranteeing a synergy?

If you want to justify shop wares changing, then tell me why you fight with cards in this fantasy world.

#

Surely it'd make more sense to just rush in and fight without taking turns.

#

It gets really silly when you try to come up with diagetic explanations for gameplay mechanics.

#

It works because it's a video game and what's fun is more important than how it works in this vague, poorly-designed setting.

Yeah

Also, sure, they're all wizards now. Fuck it.

Maybe you can pay the cashier to check the back of the store 😂

The 😆 was actually meant to indicate I don't really care about having a "realistic" world; Just poking fun at the thread, to see if anyone could come up with a good hand-wave. Which, it turns out is possible anyways:

Maybe you can pay the cashier to check the back of the store 😂

Maybe you can recruit enemies if you let them escape or something

#

Not the direction I was originally thinking but hey that’s also a cool thing

#

Or just you know maybe just some new companions

i like the idea but i really like how the economy in the game works right now

Maybe bribes (hiring enemies) could be a power for a new tribe? The leprechaun team? A team of crows that's all based around charms and bling? (Shiny stuff.)

Not responding to Plz, but I'm honestly not sure why people are so opposed to Wildfrost having a better foundation as a deckbuilder. Wildfrost is missing a lot of really basic, ubiquitous deckbuilder mechanics.

#

And all of the features it's missing only make the game a little more consistent, but can't realistically destroy the integrity or balance of the game.

🤔 I actually think rerolling shops might be OP for this game, just because you have so many things in there to reroll. Each reroll on a new item is another chance for your synergy, and I think each team onl yas like 2-4 of those? If the cost was high enough, it'd probably be fine, though. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe if it was limited. Like you can ask the shopkeeper for the "secret stock" once for X gold (maybe somewhere between 50-75) and they will take you there abandoning any unpurchased item in the shop front.

I had an idea for a guy that triggers when you get a combo

#

I’m… not sure how to balance it though

Maybe I’ll figure it out
