I love this game.
Beta is so fun even if the player is OP.
And yet 99% of feedback is asking for more player buffs, like people have power fantasies instead of wanting a good rewarding game.
Examples: Hating bad charms. Charms like bread charm are good because getting charms shouldn't always work out for you.
Shop rerolls? Sounds terrible. You should not get to decide your final build before you turn on the game.

So all I want is like 10+ difficulty bells going forward that take away some of the buffs that have been given to us, or take away buffs we're going to get later.

I agree that the game has gotten a bit too easy, but would recommend that some of the boss bells fundamentally change how the game plays instead of giving an explicit buff. It could give a buff and debuff.

More challenge bells are coming in a later patch.

While bread charm is less than stellar, I think much of the criticism is towards unlockable charms that are bad

#

Pengu and Peppernut charms (for example) are ones you unlock by completing challenges and they, are simply not good in most cases

#

unlockables should feel like rewards, but these are like, “Damn, now I have these things clogging my pool”

Bread charm sucks in all possible way I can think of. I'd rather go on a Monch site and remove 2 cards than getting this crap charm and get have a shit way of removing a card from my deck.

Charms should be fun and if possible unlock new possibilities.

#

I agree on adding more bells and/or making them more impactful so that using them really feel like a different gameplay, not just "oh its more difficult cause all enemeis have +2 hp" (figure of speech).

I would argue that bread charm is great cause it allows you to unclog your deck

#

Even if it isn’t as good as monch

I put bread charm on Lumin Vase most often. I don’t actually find it as useful on scrappy sword since hopefully I never have to play that card in the first place.

Skipping a few charms gives you a easier game than unlocking all of them

#

So in a weird way the “optimal” way to play the game is to not complete it

Enter the Gungeon had the same problem, until they added more synergies.
(Might still have some problem items, but I didn't notice any after that major update.)
IMO, that's probably the answer unless a specific card/charm/companion is too busted to fix.
🤓 I think this game has analytics beamed back to the mothership, so they should know if some stuff is consistently skipped and not just player-preference.

Oh, it never occurred to me that card games like this would have analytics.

I said if there's a card you only want to play once.

#

Like a cornerstone card to your strategy but it has an effect you only want to use a single time (or can only really make use of one time), Bread Charm it.

#

I did not say to bread Scrappy Sword.

Bread charm isn't the greatest feeling charm to get, but it's not garbage. Tbh bread charm on ||lumin vase|| can be pretty good if you've got a cornerstone companion like snoffle.

The Scrappy Sword argument is quite frequent, thus my mistake. Sorry about that.
So, in the end it ends up as a very situational tool because cards you wanna play once are either

  • already Consume
  • pretty bad to play even once.

->The only 2 outliers that I can fathom are the Lumin Vase and Bom Barell. In response to @night ocean , having a Charm for 1 or maybe 3 instances is just not good game design, and btw the Lumin Vase+Bread does not apply on "regular" games.
And it's not fun. Fun should be the priority, not the use. As a game designer myself, I can imagine a thousand possible Charms, but how many would be fun? Bread is no fun and no game changer.

Consuming a card makes your draws more consistent

#

Which is especially important with noomlin cards

#

I played a run recently where I was able to redraw my whole deck every turn with two noomlin cards thanks to bread charm
