Makes it a lot harder to combo if you have to be frame perfect on your input.

Sure. I'd recommend setting it to 6 frames to start. Then if your inputs are dropping, raise it. If old inputs that you pressed are coming out when you don't want them to (which was common with 30 frame buffer), then lower it.
