If you ask me, it’s undoubtedly the game’s progression system and monetization

Locking the vast majority of the roster behind absurd grinds and paywalls
I say THAT is what killed the game

Simple fact is: People want to have a choice of characters to play when they try the game.

Want to play as the newest characters? Well if you don’t like the free one you’re gonna have to grind or pay to get the other new one.

I think about Jake in MVS sometimes of him being a balancing nightmare that isn't Iron Giant

Also what's up with most combos in MVS starting with jab, nair, or dair?

MVS doesn't have bairs and smash attacks/strongs (unless attacks that can be charged counts like Smith's up air) but man thinking about the game feels weird

MVS also has some moba elements that I'm now noticing, mainly character roles.

It helps to classify a character archetype in traditional plat fighters, the problem is when many fighters break the norms then why bother?

• Marvin and Morty before they became mages

• Garnet being rather heavy and having armor on some of her moves (though debatable of her being a tank when she's a brawler)

• Nubia and maybe Beetlejuice feeling more like bruisers (again debatable)

• and the obligatory mages having better close range options and combos than some bruisers

Due to them being dumb asf, it could've been a seriously popular game but they tried to over monetize it, they made it way to grindy to get new characters for free, it should've been easier and there should've been more unlocked from the start, realistically if they have just had the full release game much closer to the beta and had it be a 10-20$ game and made all the skins half the price it wouldve been way bigger than it was they wouldnt have had to shut it down, and it wouldve made them a massive amount of money but instead they changed the pacing up which immedietly made half of the intial player base it was incrediblly grindy to get new characters and there were only so many free ones making new players coming into the game put off if they didnt already have charcters and didnt like the ones that were there then they would just quit, what they did to this game was practically murder while I understand why they chose to go down the free path as at the time it looked like it couldve made them more money the majority player base in any of these games doesnt spend money and even less people spend money multiple times the fortnitifcation of alot of games got them killed

The game had a second chance they should've listened to their audience and that killed the game from putting characters that no one asked for

it was ok, had it flaws, but had some good things too

for me, i think the cosmetics were never good enough to spend money on, plus each character being so unique cost of dev must have been high, and i think this is what ended the game
high cost of dev, low sales

brawlhalla, each new character is almost mainly cosmetics, and they sell cosmetic, and cosmetic are good, so cost vs sale must be good

MVS didnt scale well

the choice of character, i think had very little to do with anything, they had a very good collection, batman , superman, looney toons, rick and morty

they had a great line up

but who buys cosmetics for superman?
