Multiversus was not at all profitable. It actively lost them money, millions of dollars in fact. Some games stay alive because they do maintain a consistent player base that make purchases. This game's consistent player base was not only very small, but most didn't spend money on the game.

A studio can't keep a game online at a loss out of kidness

I don't know about other games, but I believe Multiversus did have dedicated servers. Changing the whole infrastructure to allow for peer-to-peer gameplay in just a few months without properly testing it while they were shutting down the studio.... that would've been a waste of money and resources with likely a worse result. Again, Warner had already lost millions. They were not willing to spend more money in a game that already wasted them millions.

its was a petition with the goal of keeping game devs from fully killing a games playabillity, pretty sure it has enough signatures now that it has to be brought into the european parliament

i dont think it forces them to keep servers up, i think the goal was keeping full offline playabillity and have an optional service to play online on temporary servers you bought or something

but nothing is guaranteed yet, the eu has to approve first and we know how that goes
